  1. The VF-1S. Probably the most iconic transforming jet. When I first watched the opening of Macross (Robotech) on TV, I didn't know anything about it and seeing a plane transform into a robot was and still is one of the coolest things ever. I'm not sure if I prefer Hikaru or Max colors from DYRL. Usually I lean towards Max since he kicks ass. I like the more human design of the "S" head.
  2. Shop looks nice and clean. I would go if I lived in Orlando. Or you sold anime cels.
  3. I wish someone out there would do a complete video (or text) review with this new DYRL Blu-ray and with a comparison to the previously released DVDs. So we would have some kind of benchmark on video, sound, etc.
  4. I don't drink soda at all anymore but those commercials make me want to try out that new Pepsi. Still, I'm looking forward to this anime.
  5. Maybe it's still early in the anniversary schedule and some really good stuff is still coming out. A Minmay statue seems like an obvious idea and an easy sell. I'm surprised at all those Macross II artworks in that famitsu link. I still have two or three large, I think movie sized posters on heavy paper I picked up when the show was released here in the U.S. The music was pretty good but as a whole Macross II was forgettable. I thought they were trying to distance themselves from it.
  6. Maybe I missed it but what happened to the original Flashback? Why can't they find a version to restore?
  7. I don't know if I missed this story. It's kind of old. But I just stumbled across this site looking for 30th Anniversary stuff. http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2012/04/25-1/a-look-inside-the-macross-30th-anniversary-celebration I hope more is coming out. There is so much Macross stuff that I want like modern statues, a complete Macross Frontier soundtrack set, perhaps a Macross designed cell phone (I remember Evangelion and Eden of the East cell phones), anniversary books. I'm kind of disappointed so far.
  8. Some great cels you guys managed to acquire. I've been meaning to take a trip to Japan to go on a massive treasure hunt for anime cels. I read a story a while back about a guy finding tons of rare Japanese movie posters while in Japan. I'm sure somewhere there is a bunch of high quality cels sitting around. What are the private dealer sites? I only check Mandarake from time to time. Is there a Japanese version of Profiles in History? They had a recent animation auction with a lot of rare stuff.
  9. That bike statue looks cool. I guess I'll check out the anime. A company needs to do Priss from BGC in this scale. I don't want that small toy Yamato released. Maybe this will renew interest in Rook's ride armor from Beagle.
  10. Finished High School of the Dead. I thought anime, zombies, and Japanese school girls would go well together. It did for the most part. The action and animation was really good. Even the fan service action bits. I probably should have passed on the OVA. I thought that the animation quality would get even better. But they went somewhere I thought they would never go...I'll pass on the manga after seeing the anime. But I'll watch again if/when the anime comes back. Next up. Going old school. I've never seen the Dirty Pair OVA episodes and one of the movies. Plus, they finally released the TV episodes. I'm waiting for a deal to own these.
  11. I was hoping we would see DYRL statues of Hikaru and Misa. They could make good ones now. I remember seeing unpainted garage kits back in the late 90s.
  12. I rarely if ever pre-order. Few items are so rare that they need to be pre-ordered. Add in the fact that there have been a bunch of DVD/Blu-ray releases that have botched scenes or changes always makes me wait for reviews. Right now, my original source and backup still have the DYRL limited box in stock. Also, I would not have done business with a retailer that would not let me cancel a pre-order. Basicially Bandai could do whatever they wanted. Which they did. They had the nerve to call an edited version the theatrical edition. The only way a customer can respond to this is to either cancel pre-orders, return the item as defective, or file a credit card dispute as the item was not as advertised. Because right now, this is the Axel Foley rule of I did it once which means I could do it again.
  13. I've always checked the Macross World site for ages. Probably since the early days. I miss the toy reviews and the site could use updates to the various product pages (toys, DVD/Blu-ray, CD, etc.). But this site/forum is still the best that I've seen. I also check out http://www.anymoon.com for Macross related toy news on occasion.
  14. Is the PS/Saturn DYRL game rare now? I still have the Saturn version boxed away.
  15. Not all. I believe they put a lock on Persona Arena. But that's coming out in a week or so over here anyway. However, this stuff with Macross needs to stop. It's the 30th anniversary. We should be getting all the games and movies over here. Enough is enough with whatever nonsense they have going. The new Robotech series are poor. The last one I watched for free (thankfully) online and I couldn't believe how dull it was. The games I believe never make it out. I picked up a comic like 10 years ago for the cover.
  16. Are they? That would make those chainsaw guys not as scary. Anyone find/upload videos yet of the DYRL edited scenes? I still want to see them in motion.
  17. It's just that the color is so saturated and blurred that it looks like something from a newer anime. Right now I'm wishing that I picked up DYRL and Flashback from Valkyrie Exchange back in the day. I'm pretty sure those were fan edits with subtitles. Does anyone here know how they were quality wise? This is a sad day. I only have my old VHS version from the late 80s which I'm sure is some kind of bootleg with English voices and Japanese subtitles. Also a Laser Disc version. Which is the best official DVD release?
  18. The modern Resident Evil games have all this violent stuff so it can't be because of the pack in game.
  19. The game looks good. I'll probably try to get this at a deep discount somehow.
  20. Two threads on almost the same thing but I guess the good from this is I'm not going to be out $200+. The bad is that what should be the perfect version of one of the best Japanese animated movies and one of my favorite movies just isn't right. Perhaps they'll try again for the 35th or 40th anniversary.
  21. Is this the "theatrical version" and not a strange artifact from taking a photo of a TV? If everything is normal, this can't be right. That shot doesn't even look like it belongs in DYRL. The most offensive thing is if they have the nerve to call that a "theatrical version." The sad thing is the whole package looks perfect except for the one easy thing that should be perfect. The movie. They could have released an unrestored/unremastered original cut yet in HD plus the special edition and I would have been happy. This is actually worse than what George Lucas did with Star Wars to some extent as he didn't try to pass off the special edition as an original version.
  22. Cool. Show the offending/edited scenes too. I'm sure the Star Wars Blu-rays still sold well. I didn't buy them. I still have my "limited" Star Wars DVDs which I purchased heavily discounted. But money talks and if fans continue to buy altered or poor versions then the director or suit who decided on the changes will happily continue.
  23. Companies have no problems releasing poor first generation products only to release 2nd generation versions that are what the first generation should have been. Macross DYRL Uncut or Unedited a year or so from now wouldn't surprise me at all. Anyone find any unboxing videos yet? Or pics? I still want to see the extras.
  24. I don't know why they even cut the Ghost in the Shell TV series into those movie versions. The TV show is one of the best modern anime shows. I just watched episode 6 of High School of the Dead. This episode is where fan service went a bit too far and turned into something creepy. Part of me doesn't want to finish the series at this point but I want to see how it ends.
  25. The thing about Macross and a lot of other TV to Movie features is that they were always more serious, realistic, and dangerous on screen. At least for me growing up watching them on TV. Movies like Star Trek Wrath of Khan and Macross DYRL were examples of that. That is why many recent TV to Movie features are a miss. Stuff like the X-Files and the Star Trek Next Generation movies. Editing DYRL after all the previous releases at this point is strange. Those edited scenes although a bit over the top are part of the harder edge in the movie. It's almost crazy that they would think to have two versions in this release and both are with the edits. I guess someone will do an unboxing video in the next day or so.
