  1. I've got too much time on my hands - but am I the only one that noticed that the 1/48 is the only scale in which 0 isn't the highest peak? More 1/60's are sold than any other, but apparently the 1/48 is the must have valk. It looks like a significant number of people are skipping out on all the rest just to have the best. You know what they say: there are lies, damn lies, and then there are statistics
  2. 1/48: 1 (my precious is lonely) 1/60: 0 1/72: 0 I think we need a MacrossWorld Robin-Hood to redistribute the wealth a little. And Sithlord - oh Sithlord . . . how we envy you.
  3. I am in AWE. My poor VF-1J feels jealous now.
  4. Hmmm. Any St. Louisans out their find any alternators? Until I get myself a car, my range of transportation is a bit limited - nonetheless with all the Wal-marts, K-marts, and Targets I can get to on bus you'd think my raids would have turned up at least one smokey! Oh well, this seems to be one of the last places in the U.S. to get much of anything. Unless of course it involves cock-fighting or the WWF (NeoverseOmega sighs deeply and proceeds to beat his head against the wall).
  5. Robotech is a bit of a tragedy to me. Yes, it was my introduction to anime. Yes it knit together three different series in an interesting way (and I think that it was a pretty inventive solution for the problem of an insufficient episodes for an american T.V. season). Yes it had gobs of cool mecha. Yes it had a lot of fun (if unrealistic to the point of being pure fantasy instead of science fiction) elements to it. It also had a number of very unfortunate problems (please keep in mind, I'm not trying to start a fight - I'm just trying to give an honest response to an extremely touchy subject as best I can). Because of Robotech I didn't know a Studio Nue existed, that Mospeada and Southern Cross were separate intellectual properties, or that Macross actually continued in Japan on a separate tangent (one might even, on a thin line, include Orguss in that). I didn't know Macross was about culture shock. I had to discover on my own that it was a reasonably intelligent statement on what happens when technological advancement doesn't match up with personal or cultural advancement - not simply an incredibly corny connection between music and some mystical force called protoculture. Because of Robotech I didn't know that these anime actually contained much more social commentary than I thought. Because of Robotech I miss out on a lot of related anime and toys even now. Sadly, I can't help but think if it had been presented differently it might have actually been a pretty highly respected venture. Say it was an american spin on three anime series that said from the beginning "This is an homage to Japanese Animation, a sadly overlooked artform in America. Robotech connects these three series in a new way: Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeada. The originals can be seen and appreciated by contacting (insert list here)". If that approach had been taken, and the continuations produced in Japan welcomed here with open arms, I think many of us would feel differently about it, cheesy or not. Of course this is a capitalist country with a free-enterprise system (which is of course in itself a beautiful thing). I can understand, however, why a company that realizes it's targeting a small devoted group might be tempted to seal off what it has so that it can make as much capital as possible . . . I just think in the long run they would have recieved more money and good-will if they had handled things differently. I think Macross is a richer, much more sophisticated enterprise overall - an inspired original - whereas what little bit remains of my liking for Robotech embarasses me more than a little - after all, by now its just the result of how much I love that montage of mecha.
  6. Removed cache. Mmmmmmmmmmm. Sustained whiplash to both heads over BoBe Patt's avatar. It was worth it. My eyes are stuck in a wavelike motion . . . . Sorry Agent-1, but you've been edged out.
  7. So basically, in Robotech the 1-R can go very high speeds with virtually no armor - so if it hits that golf-ball floating around in space it's toast. Brilliant. Of course it's stealthy, it doesn't survive long enough to register on radar - my God, something even easier to blow up than a cannon-fodder! This Jack Archer guy must have a death-wish.
  8. If the exquisite hunks of expensive plastic turned porn isn't enough, just look at the tomes of bickering, make-ups, intrigue, and drama that follow some of the simplest discussions (the Q-rau topic for instance) and you'll understand. This is nerd soap-opera, and I love it. I'm missing bobe patt's avatar too - all is see is some psycho making a peace sign in front of the fires of hell. I'm picturing running girl . . . big . . . milkshake . . . and all I see is PEACE. This is soooo wrong.

    Q-rau

(Begin voice of soap opera narrator) Will Abomz and Uxi make up? Is YamatoLover the dreaded Quadrono? Is the Q-rau a brutal bid for the last of MWers incomes? Are there more earth-shattering revelations from Graham? Intrigue! Drama! Expensive plastic! All this and more on the next exciting episode of . . . (Insert organ music here) . . . MACROSS WORLD!!!!!!!!!
  10. Um, are all the valks erogenous zones supposed to be pink like that?
  11. I'm an official geek. Hmm. An athletic geek with multiple girlfriends . . . Isn't that a contradiction in terms? Or maybe it's just a geek trying too hard

    almost

Here's to a few seconds of peace on earth and goodwill towards men - or at least the sweet dream of it. Food for the hungry. Relief for those who suffer. Peace for the dying. Comfort for the broken-hearted. Hope for the hopeless. Love when all else fails. Merry Christmas. I hope we all receive more than we ever wanted, and give more than we ever thought we could.
  13. Yeah Roy, at least your avatar is a few inches higher and not animated But in the mean time, since I got my 1J I can dream of what else I'd like in my stocking this year . . . . Suddenly I have an urge to play with jello.
  14. I considered it for a time, but I'm completely deaf in one ear and have a wierd tendency to totally misinterpret what I hear - if I made it past the physical ol' sarge probably would have beaten me to death before I made it through boot-camp.
  15. I was married, then she had an affair with my best friend. Now her pictures get smashed and mangled under my valkyrie's feet periodically (not that I'm bitter or anything). Well, at least she still says I was a good husband, just not the right one for her.
  16. This whole topic - favorite nosecones, huge gunpods, getting sucked into engines . . . it's all so FREUDIAN somehow. Which representation of the HUGE HORKIN MAIN PARTICLE CANNON on the Macross itself did you like better, the DYRL or the TV-series version? And any ladies that might by any chance meander in - there is a very good reason why MWers are very vocal about having a "bigger is better" philosophy . . . . You might call it a personal reflection . . . . Ahem. Best nosecone: SV-51 it looks savage. Best Gunpod: Armored VF-11 - it gets instant initiative in any situation because the enemy is going "Oh my God, it's so . . . . big." Best Macross Location: Burger Po Po - so reminiscient of classic diner paintings . . . Best BIG HORKING GUN: DYRL Macross - it looks so much more rugged and lethal. I tried not to be silly. I really did. Just . . . . can't . . . . help . . . silliness . . .
  17. I can't speak much for the CM from experience - I had a Jetfire once that I modded into a 1-S but it was ripped limb from limb by a neighbor. I do remember it's transformation being pleasingly SOLID. I recieved my first 1/48th recently (cheers) and I love it to death (and I do play with it - and can say with some pleasure that it isn't anywhere near as delicate as I had feared). Nonetheless, I would have to say the CM's solid locking joints do beat out the Yamato's ball joints anytime - you shouldn't have to fiddle with the shoulder so much to get it to slide out from under the valk! Bandai valks are for the pure child at heart - it doesn't have to look perfect when you have imagination, it just has to be fun to play with! As an adult I would pick the Yamato - it is just so beautiful, and my play-time isn't rough enough to damage it - but for those who are truly a child inside I imagine the Chunky Monkey's just can't be beat. I mean come on - the gun pods can shoot the eye out of the neighbors cat! Too bad Jetfire didn't have a firing gunpod, he might have been able to save himself. I know a lot of people don't understand how grown-up intelligent men can collect toys and play with them - but I can't help but wonder - are all the so called "adult" activities really any more mature? Bowling? Bar-hopping? To me a lot of adult activities just seemed like soulless imitations of child's play. Not to criticize them, but if you think about it, a lot of that is just play without the imagination, flamboyance, and freedom of a child. So why not fly a space-craft once in a while - is that any worse than rolling a ball at some ceramic pins? Or gambling away hard earned money at a casino? I know guys that lose their shirts on a weekly basis due to their poker games. Just because society says one thing defines the activities of an adult and another thing defines the activities of a child doesn't mean that it's the truth. I hope the person who considered it weird to play with toys isn't what I once was - a closet child. From experience I know, it's sad when you have to hide part of yourself because you don't think it will be accepted. Yes, it can make it harder to find and keep a girlfriend - but isn't it much nicer if that girlfriend likes you for exactly what you are (weird or not)?
  18. It's beginning to look a lot like Macross everywhere I gooooo. Of course I'm more than a little cracked. Happy Holidays to everyone who contributes to this community - ranging from the venerable head honchos like Graham and Shawn, to the omnipresent mods, the customizers that captivate our imaginations, and even the random kidder that adds a little humor to our days. Thank you all for enriching our illness - amen and hallelulia (Anybody know when the Hoary Froating Head's birthday is? I think we need to make it a holiday).
  19. By the way- THAT STICKA SHEET'S DA BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Actually, I think the idea of the louver stickers is to allow you to keep the engine covers off in battroid mode and still see those classic grey intakes.
  21. Now we just need an animation of her in a little black dress doing slinky movements in the corner of your posts. Yes, that figure's a little too hot. It brings macross love to a whole new level of sickness.
  22. Oops. Sorry, can't quite figure out what happened, but this should look better. Edited the image - for some reason the scan of my finished drawing won't load so I replaced it with the geometry I used to work out the proportions. Oh, and I know negative is spelled wrong. Sigh, we foolish english majors . . .
  23. Okay. Here's a design I threw together for the emergency. Granted, it's a first draft, but the transformation does work believe it or not. The VF negetive whatever!!! With attack sub mode!
  24. Hmmm. People who have valks in the double digit numbers = addicts Person who turns of electricity, phone, and eats once a day so he can afford one Valk = insane Forget Muslim Jihad, THIS is fanaticism.
  25. My 1J from Twin Moons has been SHIPPED!!! I didn't know I was still capable of cartwheels! Cheers to all (offers a fistfull of cigars and an open bar)!!!!
