Yeah well I was too busy moaning about my inability to find 3rd party toys locally to notice your moaning about MP Prime. As crazy as it sounds, I've actually seen some guy asking for WFC OP at my local hobby store, almost a year after it's been released.- 17112 replies

One thing I noticed about my PS2 controllers is that the knobs on the L3 analog stick tend to leak some kind of "ooze" from a possible chemical reaction with the sweat from my thumb--similar to the HT DX02 Batman suit's "leaking oil" problem. The knob on one of my controllers actually came off after a few years. The PS3 controller seems to have a similar problem, but I've taken to wiping off the knobs with a damp cloth after use. Hopefully that will prolong its lifespan some.- 6876 replies

Does it have the sound-effects trigger gimmick of the G1 toy? It obviously lights up, but I don't see a trigger in alt mode.- 9275 replies

Been on a Three Kingdoms marathon lately. Watched Donnie Yen's The Lost Bladesman, Andy Lau's Resurrection of the Dragon, and both Red Cliff movies. TLB was a bit of a dissapointment, and Yen himself was miscast for the role. Not an inch of him looked anything like the traditional description of Guan Yu. I liked how they tried to rationalize his red skin by having him wipe the blood of his enemies on his face, though. The fights are what you'd expect of Donnie Yen--fast, furious and bone-crunching. Not like any of us watch his movies for the story, anyway. Andy Lau's movie had some serious potential, but the story-telling was insipid and felt a little too short. I'll say this of Lau, though; he makes a very convincing hero. Red Cliff? Good, but the cast was kinda "off." Tony Leung's a good actor, but sort of miscast as the supposedly "impossibly handsome" Zhou Yu, as he was described in the books. The guy who played Guan Yu severely lacked the imposing massiveness and authority of the God of War. Surprisingly, Takeshi Kaneshiro IMO gave a good performance as a sly Zhuge Liang. Battles were epic enough, but the part about Sun Shang Xiang infiltrating the enemy camp as a soldier made me groan and roll my eyes. This whole trope with pretty girls successfully masquerading as men...males in ancient times must either be very beautiful and androgynous, or very stupid.

PSX Original: Worked fine the last time I used it...which was over a decade ago. Long since mothballed after I got my PS2. PS2 Original: 7 years of loyal service, before the gears went out of alignment. I might bring it back to a repair shop one of these days to get it fixed, but I haven't got around to it. PS2 Slim : Still working. PS3 Original: Currently my main console.- 6876 replies

Damn, the page was either locked or shut down. TBH, I only came to know this Jin Saotome guy as a customizer. He does good stuff, but is more or less a rung or so below Frenzy-Rumble in terms of skill and workmanship. I had no idea he had this little anti-3rd-party crusade going on here. But I have heard a while back that he had some financial troubles, and some of his fellow customizers had to help him out...or something like that. As for F_R, AFAIK, I haven't heard of him going against 3rd party stuff. From what I've seen of his work, his stuff is creative and intricate enough not to be threatened by 3rd party toys, such as his "mid-warp" MP Skywarp custom.- 17112 replies

TDK has never been my favorite. I've always liked Batman Begins the best, followed by TDKR and lastly, TDK. Ledger's performance was the show stealer for TDK, but I found a lot of inconsistencies in the plot (how's a guy with scars like that walk around unnoticed for so long? And the police and government agencies don't even have a record of him?) Wasn't a fan of the new Rachel either.

Jin Saotome? Isn't he just some guy who customizes TF's for a living? 'The hell does he stand to gain from shutting down 3rd party companies? Oh, wait... Missed out on LC Brawl when it first came out. No way I'm paying 200 USD for it, but if it's somewhere around 70-100, I just might bite.- 17112 replies

I defeated Omega weapon (the one you fight underwater, after getting the submarine or something). As for 12, I got stuck at the T-Rex quest. Damn thing almost made me throw my controller out the window. Kept buffing and healing itself, and debuffing your team. The only way to defeat it is probably to max out your team, but I never got around to it--didn't bother.- 6876 replies

There's also a fully garbed Figma Muv-Luv figure, in case you wonder. BTW, I was about to post another "I can't buy these naked chick figs cuz I'm living in the wrong f#cking country" comment, but my new year's resolution is to stop complaining and do something about the situation. So, I'll just congratulate you all for owning such beautiful figs, and make plans to migrate to Canada or something.

I'm gonna display my Drossel on my workstation just like that! Maybe add some blutack to keep it from falling off, though. Amen to that.

LOL! I like how the Russians are the only ones not impressed with the F-22 like all the other countries. Cowboy!

I nearly bought the single DVD version myself until I saw there was a two-disc version sitting on the shelf beside it.

Agreed on both points. In all probability, Penelo, along with all the other orphans in Vaan's little gang, were added only when Vaan was created. She would never have existed in the game if Vaan hadn't been added, and he was enough of a third wheel as it is. Basch, Ashe and Balthier would all have made better main characters than Vaan because the story was conceived around them, making them a necessary part of the game. Vaan's sole purpose was to fill a demographic need. And what's not to like about 12's combat system? It happens to be one of my favorites. Saves you from the tedium of controlling all the characters during fights, and you're free to focus on one character while the other do as you programmed them to. Gambits rock!- 6876 replies

Apparently, they originally wrote the story around Basch, but halfway during development, the higher ups decided that his age and rugged look wouldn't fit with their inteded teen Japanese demographic. That was why Vaan was made; to act as a young, androgynous replacement for Basch. They basically had to shoehorn Vaan into his role as the main character. According to wikipedia, it seems that this was a lesson they learned from Vagrant Story, which didn't sell as well in Japan as Square intended. They chalked t up to the fact that the lead character Ashley Riot was in his mid to late twenties, and had a confident, mature look about him. Supposedly, teenage players in Japan couldn't relate to him. I'd say it was the overly-complex weapons mechanics rarther than the demographics. IMO, Vagrant Story has one of, if not the best storylines in any RPG I've played, and if they replaced Ashley with a younger guy like they did with 12, it just wouldn't work.- 6876 replies

It's much more "open world" than 13. While I also found 12's dungeons more playable and fun, I kept wondering why they made Vaan the protag instead of Ashe. It was basically her story. Had Vaan had something to gain or lose from this adventure, I'd have felt satisfied, but nothing was at stake for him. And personality-wise, he was still the same Vaan in the end as when he started out, except he became a sky pirate. His brother's death doesn't seem to hold much significance in his story.- 6876 replies

You have a point there. Kids these days are much more into ipads and PS Vita's and whatnot than physical toys. They'd be more likely to buy a TF video game than an actual TF. The movies saw a sudden boom in toy sales, but I'm almost certain that was due to a massive surge of adult collectors buying them in an effort to reconnect with their childhood. TBH, I left TF's behind after reaching my teens, and it was only after the 2007 movie that I bought a TF for the first time in well over ten years. That was how I got into toy collecting in general. I'm only guessing here, the swarm of killer Bee's is more due to Hasbro's increasingly conservative style of marketing. From Hasbro's marketing department to Walmart to TRU, most everyone sees Bee as the ultiate kid appeal character. For fear of shelf-warming, they stock up crazy amounts of the character in the belief that if kids were allowed only one purchase, it would either be OP or Bee. The other characters get sidelined in the process. Final wave characters not seeing a release is probably because of Hasbro (or rather the departmental stores) trying to save resources for upcoming lines, or cutting their losses after the lackluster sales of earlier waves. As for TRU's crappy distribution, i've no idea.- 17112 replies

I honestly don't know what to make if this Dolphie Catwoman. It's undoubtedly a very pretty figure as far as Japanese anime-esque dolls go, but embodies none of the attitude and sexiness of the character.

X is probably not a very good example of what Square had to offer. VII is IMO one of the better FF games thus far (others will tell you FF Tactics kicks VII's ass, but I've never played it before). Although the CGI clearly shows its age, the gameplay is interesting and the plot keeps you intrigued, to say nothing of the iconic characters. Well, gameplay-wise, Irvine was useful. Character-wise, I hated him. Besides, I was in my early to mid teens when I played FF VIII. Rinoa was like the perfect girlfriend that never existed. And let's face it; VIII was the closest Square's RPG equivalent of a dating sim. IIRC, my main team is usually Squall, Rinoa and Quistis. I sometimes switch between Irvine and Rinoa, though. Zell and Selphie almost never get to fight.- 6876 replies
