Same here. I've been waiting for an announcement for a VT-1 reissue for months, and then this Arcadia thing pops up out of the blue.

Probably stating the obvious, but a competitive market will always benefit the consumers. Hopefully the name change is just that. I'd hate to see Bandai returning to making those awful V1 VF-25's and VF-100 partsformers, and without Yamato to offer an alternative.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
GU-11 replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Oshii's first GITS movie had a great ending. In any case, the whole story was taken directly from the manga, which remains one of my favorites to date. While not really ambiguous, it opens up questions of what she'll do next as a newborn entity, and now that she's no longer a part of Sector 9. GITS SAC 2nd Gig also had a really satisfying ending. Sad to see the Tachikomas go, but that was remedied with their (sort of) resurrection as Max and Musashi. Unresolved endings? Blood C. It was more of a 12-episode teaser than a proper series, so my judgment might seem unfair. I don't watch a lot of anime these days, and these are the only ones I recall from recent memory. -
The super/strike parts I pre-ordered from my local hoby store finally came in yesterday. Finally. Waited so long for those. Never knew they came with the side pieces.

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
GU-11 replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Technically, the did relaunch FF7 as a PC game with DLC capabilities or something. Not exactly a hit with fans, considering it's same damn game with identical graphics and all. As for SE's mystery FF game, it's likely to be Versus, although it could just as likely be Lightning Returns (not that anyone cares about the latter, anyway). If it's Versus, I'll buy the game first and play it eventually when I get around to buying the PS4 a year or so later.- 6876 replies

Same here. FF XIII was a bit of a disapppointment, so I can't say I'm as confident of the franchise's ability to deliver a good game as I did back during my PS1 days.- 6876 replies

IGN says there's a new Final Fantasy game coinciding with the PS4's release. I wonder if it's XIII-Versus, which might explain the hush-hush way SE's been going about it when asked about it's progress. As for price, a certain Japanese newspaper also states that the PS4 will cost about 400 USD, which is reasonable, since it's actually 200 less than what the PS3 cost in 2006. All speculation at this point, though. Here's the link. Either way, I won't even consider buying one until after a game I seriously like has been announced, and all the kinks and glitches have been found and ironed out. I only bought a PS3 after MGS4 was released.- 6876 replies

Whoa, a scratch-build? That's an awesome job. Many thanks! I'll have to try this on my MP-11 Starscream. Those awful molded-on missiles under his turbines are driving me crazy.

I just found out something that might just sway me back into buying MGR. Apprently, producer Atsushi Inaba tweeted a response to the game's pathetically short play time, stating that the game only counts your fastest cleartime per playthrough, and does NOT include the time for cutscenes and "game over" replays. I honestly don't know how much that adds to the purported 5.5 hour playtime, though. I'm guessing that'll make it a total of 8-10 hours of playtime, although there are extras like VR missions and unlockables to warrant several playthroughs. Anyways, here's the link to the article.- 6876 replies

So it's Handy Drill, pin vise S, Basic and Fine bit sets, right? Wow, seems like I'll still be spending quite a bit even if I don't get the router. Then again, no one ever said this was a cheap hobby.

As long as they don't get Elizabeth Berkely to do it. She was horrid in Armitage III; nearly ruined the anime for me. As for the cast's more youthful apprearance, I really don't see the relevance of age in a cyborg, past 18. Basically, cyborg with an adult brain can live his/her life in a body with a 20-year-old appearance. The difference of a decade or so doesn't matter in the least. That said, I guess they had to do it to present a clearcut difference between SAC and Arise to the audience.

Me, too, but FOC sort of changed my mind on that. I can't believe I'm still playing through the levels, even though I've probably repeated them over 10 times. Maybe that's just the magic of controlling transforming giant robots on an alien battlefield--it just doesn't get old. TBH, I'm still decidng if I should get MGR, although I'm leaning far toward "yes." If the gameplay's as good as the reviews say, I might just have found my second FOC...just without the giant transforming robots and that alien battlefield.- 6876 replies

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

Caught a few eps of K. Honestly, I just can't get into it. It wasn't bad, but nothing really held my interest...except for that cat girl, maybe. She should get her own show. The police force or whatever with their sabers just felt ridiculous, although I've seen worse in other anime. It was heavily promoted on Animax, but IMO it didn't really live up to the hype. And the air times sucked (11pm on Thursdays). -

Just finished reading IGN's review of MGR. Is it just me or are these games getting annoyingly short? 4-6 hours in your first playthrough?! Seriously? The gameplay is apparently very good, and repeat playthroughs are a must, so I guess that's sort of a consolation. Fall of Cybertron was lasted only 12-15 hours in my first playthrough, but I probably clocked more hours in repeat playthroughs than much longer games like Deus Ex - HR or even Valkyria Chronicles. This might just be the case with MGR. Here's hoping my 200+ dollars (Malaysian currency, of course) will be well spent on this game.- 6876 replies

Thanks again, MT and Jeff! I just hope the shop won't give me any BS about "goods sold are not returnable" since they were the ones who f#%ked up and gave me the wrong damn tool. Sounds like I'm on the right track. What bit sizes do you mostly use? I'll mostly be using the drill and/or pin vise to hollow out gun barrels and thrusters, and maybe even air vents. The handy drill only comes with a standard 1mm bit, if I'm not mistaken, and the pin vise S doesn't even come with any drill bits at all. Tamiya has a basic and fin drill bit set. Which ones do you recommend I get?

@wmcheng: How you managed to so neatly paint up the spaces between those missile pods, I'll never know. Then again, you're a professional model builder of almost legendary reknown here. If I said I wasn't impressed, I'd be a very poor liar. I love what you did with the red striping, replacing them with clear read over a metallic base coat! But since you're giving the FAST packs a final coat of matte, wouldn't that dull the stripes? Or are you planning on masking them first? I'm curious, too. Doesn't look like your average tank. BTW, great paint job there, Phyrox!

My gaming relationship with Playstations is actually closely tied to the Final Fantasy franchise, believe it or not. The first video game I ever played was FF7 when I was in my teens (strict family, nuff said). It was a PC version, actually. Fell in love with the game, and with FF8 just released, I just couldn't wait for the PC version and scrounged up some allowance cash for a PS1. By then the PS1 was fast aging, and the PS2 was just about to launch, but a 400 dollar console was just out of my budget. A couple of years later and I finally got my first PS2, right before college. I was in gaming heaven with the library of games available; The Bouncer, Breath of Fire 4, FFX, Shadow of Memories, Way of the Samurai, Ace Combat 4, etc. Fast forward a decade or so, and we come to the PS3. Great games and the reason I said goodbye to my trusty 28" CRT TV and bought a 32" Sony Bravia to make use of the PS3's HDMI capabilities. But as awesome as MGS4 and Valkyria Chronicles are, my best memories of gaming still belong to the 2000's when the PS2 reigned supreme. And yeah, Benson. Hearing Archer's story makes me feel old too.- 6876 replies

As a TF collector, I've seen countless customs and repaints in forums. EXO, believe me when I say yours ranks as one of the really good ones. I keep wondering why there are two circular depressions where the tail lights should be. Maybe they were supposed to be fitted with clear plastic tail lights, but Hasbro cheaped out on the budget at the last moment? BTW, the blue car bot's name is Tracks.

MT, Major Focker, Coronadlux, many thanks for the explanations! Pin vise it is, then. I don't see myself wiring fiber optics for star destroyers or the Enterprise any time soon, so soreness and carpal tunnel syndrome won't be an issue. I was just worried that even moderate use would strain my wrists, which doesn't seem to be the case. After reading your explanations on the router, I think I'll get it returned. I don't currently do any major kitbashing or resin models, and I think I can remove most unwanted parts with a razor saw, sandpaper and a metal file (and some elbow grease). I'm thinking of getting the handy drill and buying an extra fine pin vise for drilling really small holes; that way, I've got all drill bit sizes covered, from 0.1mm to 3mm. What do you think?
-
Yeah, they do accumulate dust over time. I'm seeing if I can make a seal from strips of painted cardboard cut to length. It certainly will work, but I'm not sure about how it'll look. Either way, the dust accumulation is pretty negligible so it's not too big of a problem with plastic figures. I can probably get away with dusting it only once every six months. My totally exposed HT 1/6 Tumbler/Batmobile, on the other hand, needs a good dusting almost every other day, or at least every week if I'm lazy. @Kaldar: My local hobby store brings in a flat-packed clear plastic display case that's a perfect fit for VF-1's in all three modes. It's actually made of flexible plastic sheeting. The four sides are glued together, and can be folded up for easy storage. The top acts like a lid, completely sealing the inside from dust. I lost the box somewhere along the way, and can't remember the name, though. They cost around 20 USD, IIRC. They're too small for anything larger than a VF-1 or a VF-11, however.
-
Me, too. The individual spaces in a DETOLF are large enough for just about every imaginable collectible you'll want to display, from 1/6 figures to Transformers to 1/60 VF's and even 3rd party TF combiners if you remove a glass pane and merge 2 spaces into one. I'd buy another one if I could find the space for it.

Thanks for the info guys! I just did a little googling in my free time and it seems the Tamiya drill can only handle 1-3mm bits, whereas the Pin Vice D can be fitted with 0.1mm-3.2mm bits. Obviously the pin vice is much more versatile, but I keep hearing about carpal tunnel syndrome and wrist soreness when using pin vices, and I'm not sure if the ones writing these articles and posts are joking or serious. Is it true? I only plan on using the drill or pin vise for hollowing out gun barrels, thrusters and vents. Would the handy drill's 1mm-3mm bit options be good enough for that, or should I opt for a pin vise, carpal tunnel be damned? As for the router/rotary tool, what exactly are its uses in modeling? I need to know this before deciding on whether to keep it or not. These tools are pretty expensive, and I'd rather not buy something I don't have much of a use for. @Major Focker: thanks for letting me know! Can I buy them online or would I have to make a trip to Singapore to get a few bottles of these? Alclad's website linked me to a Singaporean online store, but they didn't sell any Alclad stuff, just magazines and some WWII model kits.

Honestly, this whole RiB-FiR vs FiB-RiR thing is just stupid. As long as the names aren't etched or molded onto the toy itself, you can damn well call the blue one Periwinkle and the red one Gingerpuff for all the difference it makes.- 17112 replies
