The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread

That's a tough call though honestly if you can only do 1, the VF-4 pre-orders sold out, and it will probably only be available at NY after release, at a mark up. But it also seems TE-01 and MS-01 first runs are selling out, supposedly the second run will include the second head, but that's not a guarantee and nobody knows when a second run could happen. Seriously though, TE-01 is a gorgeous Prime, holy crap, he looks fantastic, and agreed, the lack of thigh swivel isn't as egregious as I thought it would be. Those proportions, those legs, it's all really beautiful IMO, and at $96 shipped, what a steal. I was a bit on the fence before we started getting more official and finished shots, but each new batch gets me more excited, which I never thought I would be for ANOTHER MP Prime.- 9275 replies

That alt mode is gorgeous, hot damn. I really don't mind the extra involved transformation to get there either, honestly, the only tricky part looks to be fitting the robot back pieces into the roof position for alt mode, getting past the smoke stacks and arms looks like it has to be done in a very specific way. That said both MS and TE came up with some very neat and intuitive transformations for the legs, we've definitely moved on from MP-10s good enough leg transformation, those both look phenomenal. I love what TE did with the legs, and the backs of the legs and most importantly the backs of the feet, look soooooo good and on point, a dumb little detail, but I like it a lot. MS definitely looks beefier next to TE, he's got bulk, Prime that's been hitting the gym. Seeing MP-10s trailer on MS and TE looks great as well, I think that trailer is still really nice looking, and with the MP-10 matrix also fitting TE, I'll just cannibalize MP-10 for the parts I want and sell him for cheap. edit: From what I'm reading, TE-01 is scheduled for release sometime tomorrow, 1/8/19. Hopefully everyone that pre-ordered will be getting shipping notices by the end of the week, would be neat if MS and TE both deliver MP Primes at almost the same time.- 9275 replies

Isn't that the voyager scale MP-10? I'd say too small, MS and TE are MP scale like MP-10. TE is compatible with the regular MP-10 trailer. Damn, I'm loving these shots of TE, that thing looks fantastic. Aside from thigh swivel, I'm not seeing any superior articulation on MS, and the white thighs are what I wanted, the grey is more a toy thing. The cab stripe as well, it was missing far more then it was on him in the original cartoon. Also it seems the battle damage parts for MS aren't original movie battle damage, it appears to be shattered glass Optimus parts, specifically the bullet holes in the cab windows.- 9275 replies

Found a solid review for TE-01 as well. That's a FAR more complex transformation then I thought, more complex then MS-01, but probably on par for Takara MP-44. Like MS-01, there's a lot of clever engineering going on, the way the wheels hide in the crotch is pretty fantastic. I already paid up, so TE-01 is the new Optimus for me.- 9275 replies

Benscollectibles has a review up for MS-01, looking pretty good. That transformation is quite intuitive, there's a lot of clever engineering going on in there, that said, the alt mode is still fairly ugly to me, but that bot does look beefy. Also, it seems TE-01 comes with an adapter to use the MP-10 trailer, and apparently his matrix chamber is compatible with the MP-10 matrix, for those that would care about those little details.- 9275 replies

I love me some Ant-Man, I'm glad he's got a bigger role here, and with his quantum realm entanglements, he's probably quite important. As many people place those two films as middle ground MCU territory, they're easily two of my all time favorite MCU films, but then again, I love Paul Rudd, and I've been reading Ant-Man since 1995.

Lol my bad, I didn't notice either until we started getting more shots of him in some cool poses, standing straight I didn't even notice. From what I read, MS comes with battle damaged parts, and on TFW2005 I saw some shots of an alternate head with red eyes for zombie Optimus. Not sure if those shots were legit or Photoshop though.- 9275 replies

Lol I was basically thinking exactly this as I typed my last comment, but it was already done and I just hit submit and didn't want to edit. You really gotta wonder in what way can a character be revealed as gay without it apparently being pandering? Agreed on it being very casual, as I said, we just happened to learn he's gay and had lost a partner in the past, it was a bit more backstory that also casually revealed he's gay, if it were a girlfriend we wouldn't be having any conversation about this at all. But apparently he can't just happen to be gay without having previously announced it, which then would've garnered complaints about being too in your face with it, or apparently pushing an agenda or something.

I mean, he just happened to be gay, that's how it works, it's not a big deal, it was never supposed to effect the plot, it was just more back story. I don't think having a character being gay is pandering, he's just gay, gay people exist, is existence pandering? Agreed on his original partner though, the show caught a lot of heat for that, introducing him and then "fridging", or killing him off immediately. Disagreed on the fail, as I said above, I think that scene was just misplaced, earlier in the montage would've been just fine.

The highlighted is actually a sticking point for me, both MP-44 and MS have a weird heel that isn't accurate, TE gets it just right. But once again, there are plenty of little things like that to like and dislike about all 3 figures available. Once again, thanks to third party, I'm sure everyone that wants to get an upgraded Optimus will find something to like. Also, looking at MS, I REALLY don't like the knees, once I saw the design, it's all my eyes go to in every shot. Standing straight we're good, but once there's any knee bend it starts to look odd.- 9275 replies

Depends on the cloth figure really, as mentioned Popeye, while not everyone's cup of tea, is quite brilliant, I bought both variants. Daredevil is nice and doesn't bunch up, Superman and Shazam as well, Flash and Reverse Flash/Zoom are really good too. I have a Space Ghost that has a bit on wonkiness on the shoulders, but I wouldn't say it's too bad, he mostly just sits at a table, like he's just in the middle of a talk show or something... -
I mean, this I can agree on, that final shot of Shiro was very on the nose, and not subtle at all. We had zero context or lead up to a new love interest for Shiro, let alone a husband. I liked the scene a lot, Shiro deserves happiness, but I feel ending on that scene was a bit of a dumb decision, I think the happy ending montage should've had that scene earlier, and it should've ended on the next generation of legendary defenders, ending on Shiro kissing his husband that we don't even have a name for was a bit jarring.

Ugh, the term "woke", and bitching about SJWs in general is more snowflaky then the supposed snowflakes being complained about. Every time I read that nonsense I feel like I'm on 4chan or Reddit, gross. Voltron is just a robot though, not a character, the paladins are actual characters, not just a weapon/mech. Not having Voltron around for chunks of time led to actual character and plot development, not just action and battles.

Wow yeah I've definitely decided, it's TE for me, this thing looks gorgeous. That back shot is definitely something, TT certainly didn't strive for toon accuracy there did they? Once again, bullshit electronics jacked the price up and messed up the backpack for poor MP-44, also, a bunch of dumb accessories hardly anyone will bother with. It looks like MP-44 is about to tip over holding all that backpack up :).- 9275 replies

I really love mine too, but it makes me so much more torn on Mezco. When they mess up, it sucks, they've got hefty price tags on these figures, but when they nail a figure, damnit if they don't REALLY nail it. This Iron Man is pretty fantastic, and I'm a bit pissed now I never bothered trying to track down the repaint. -

I read that TE Optimus has no thigh swivel due to transformation, the swivel is just above the knee joint, that will work, but it looks awkward as all hell. Bit of a bummer there, but I also read TE has another, non transforming head they plan on selling at a later date that is "better", what that entails I don't really know, more toon accurate? Better proportioned? The head is easily the weakest part on TE, so color me interested. Non transforming is once again a bummer, you will have to pop it on and remove it each time you transform the figure, PARTSFORMING!!11!!!11!1! I think I'm in for TE, better alt mode, and I'm not a fan of the super boxy look of MS.- 9275 replies

If push came to shove, I'm in for TE, that things looks good. That said, they all look like fine Optimus upgrade options, but MP-44 is definitely my least favorite looking, and that price tag is still absurd even at the $300+ Amazon Japan has it at. I'm probably going to go with TE and hope for a head upgrade, I love basically everything on the TE Optimus EXCEPT the head sculpt, that is undeniably the weak point. Honestly? These comparisons do little to help MP-44 IMO, I know plenty will buy it and enjoy it, I just can't see myself ever saying that is the DEFINITIVE Optimus upgrade, these two look fantastic as well, plus, no ridiculous price tag due to a bunch of optional parts and crap I don't want.- 9275 replies

I pre-ordered a MakeToys Stealthwing to go with my Striker Noir, I think they'll look pretty fantastic together. That said, I REALLY like the look of the premium Striker Manus, I may get him too and bump my Stealthwing order to two, one for each Striker.- 9275 replies

Can't really say myself, the only other ThreeZero figures I have are the three Breaking Bad releases, and those are just basic 1/6 human body figures. I don't think diecast is always necessary, it depends on the figure really, as long as the overall quality and detail is there the figure should speak for itself. Especially with 1/6, once again, depending on the character, at 1/6 things get big and heavy enough as is. That said, this figure itself is quite excellent, there seems to be diecast in the frame since it doesn't use a standard 1/6 body, and I thoroughly looked over the figure for paint issues and didn't see anything. He weighs a ton, he's got a big, custom 1/6 body frame with some diecast throughout it and his suit is thick painted plastic. Only issue I've found is that his drill is a bit soft, the paint doesn't come off but it's a bit spongy to the touch. Little sister is just a custom little 1/6 figure, nicely detailed and articulated. I think the Fallout 1/6 power armors had diecast, I can't verify since I haven't looked at reviews and don't own one. Like I said I think diecast use really depends on the figure/character, and I think ThreeZero has used it as necessary depending on the release. As for quality? Anything 1/6 or at this price range is always something you should look into and research before purchase. -

Got a few Christmas gifts, ThreeZero 1/6 Big Daddy is definitely the highlight. Bioshock was easily one of the best games of the last generation, and one of my favorite games ever, had to get this guy, it's beautiful and very well made. -

I love Sphinx, I got him and Badcube Sunsurge in one package, my first two third party MP Transformers ever, they let me know, loud and clear, what companies other then Takara could do with MP. Agreed on most points Scyla, especially considering he released when Takara was getting clearly more toon centric, less real world detail on alt modes, Sphinx was a breath of fresh air, paint, die-cast used intelligently, rubber, his aesthetic was, for me, pretty much spot on. I put a Autobot logo on him and Sunsurge and they both put HUGE smiles on my face, I had a hard time getting rid of Sunsurge for the official Streaker, I loved it so much, IF Takara gets to Mirage, once again, that will be a hard decision for me, Takara's will probably be too plain and toon accurate, which is why I'm passing on their Hound. In other news, Striker Noir arrived at work today, JUST in time for Christmas, and damn, this is one badass little Optimus figure! I love it! I've been pretty boring as far as Transformers are concerned, it's been G1 MP only, but I've always ooed and awed at the many, many other figures out there that went for a different aesthetic than G1, and other more manageable scales then MP. I love this guy, very fun and intuitive transformation, the bot mode is striking and heroic, and it's caught some flack, but I really like the alt mode. Like most other Optimus figures in history, when you swing his arms out from underneath the cab windows, it always puts a smile on my face, and this guy was not different, brilliant little figure. I was looking for add-ons and found some kind of combiner wars add-on for Manus, but my question, is there a trailer on the way for Noir or Manus? That would really complete the figure for me. I mean, I love it as is, but some kind of add-on would be awesome.- 9275 replies

A fairly old thread, but if anything that should maybe go here. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/topic/45523-teen-titans-tv-series/?tab=comments#comment-1392503 Doom Patrol is DC Universe, not CW-DC, they are a spin-off from the super gritty and dark Titans series on DC Universe streaming service.
