  1. What is inside then? This is one of the few Macross books/magazines that I wanted but didn't manage to get cos it's always so expensive (> US$50). I wonder why.
  2. nhyone

    knock-off

    His stuff is expensive, though.
  3. HLJ has the answers. SAL is generally US$1 every 100 grams, but only up to 2 kg. EMS can range from US$4 per 100 grams (light) to US$1.50 per 100 grams (heavy). (Sounds like buying vegetables/meat. )
  4. Not film historian here, but Star Wars could very well be the first. Didn't the light sabers have to be colored for every individual frame? That sounds very cost prohibitive to me (for 70s technology).
  5. It's sold. But the book seems to be shrinked wrapped; they may have more of it. To think I couldn't find it for so long that I jumped at a chance to buy it for US$40.
  6. Well, fansubs have gotten too easy to get and are of too high quality. I admit that when I get a good quality fansub, I am much less inclined to buy the original, especially if I ended up not really liking it. I wonder why some of the groups bother to comply. If this is successful, other Japanese studios will join in and then there won't be any fansubs left!
  7. I got an error 400 when I tried to download the 110 MB 20th anniversary clip.
  8. I'm chose GMT +8 at the board settings, I posted something at 9:53 am and the time appeared as 11:13 am. I vaguely remembered someone mentioned the board time was wrong a few months ago. Is the admin going to correct it? So what the time is wrong? I use it to see if the posts are before or after my last visit. Scanning the time is faster than scanning the first few paragraphs and seeing if I have read them.
  9. You can find out more about the live-action TV series at JDorama. Forget about the GTO Movie. It is extremely boring and is waste of time. The TV Special is still okay. I haven't seen the GTO anime nor manga, but I thought the live-action TV series was pretty good and plausible (meaning, looks like it can really happen in real-life). If you like GTO, you can try Gokusen as well. You should be able to find the bittorrent files for them quite easily at D-Addicts.
  10. 4 GB?! Even if I downloaded it, I need a DVD-R writer to burn it.
  11. If the sign was there, then weren't the three of you at fault? The staff should have pointed it out right away, but I bet the three of you felt silly arguing over something that could have been settled in one second. So, in the real version did you threaten them, challenge them to a fight, push stuff over or what? And must you always pay by credit card? How about good old cash?
  12. Is the discussion on Macross Zero over? Did I miss the boat? I didn't start downloading until episode 5 is out, and I must say even watching all 5 episodes in one go, it's a pretty short show, especially if you take out all the fights. One question: why is Hasford with the anti-UN? Is he trying to end the world? Personally, I think the only reason Roy Focker was in Macross Zero is to have a proven ace pilot.
  13. I don't think I've seen the ticket appear on eBay. Yahoo Japan, maybe. The booklet appears from time to time; US$5 to US$10. My booklet wasn't in mint condition, but it was good enough.
  14. I still have part 2 seeded, but the strange thing is my files don't seem to get uploaded once my download is complete. I don't know if it's a bug in BitComet 0.56 or not. It took me 3 full days to download both parts. As usual with BitTorrent, the starting few % was very slow because you got nothing to "trade"!
  15. The Perfect Edition DVD is exactly the same, I think. Only the packaging is different. It has no sub and is not progressive. That's the only drawback. (It's also expensive, but you can always save up.) I have some screenshots here. I have included the time where I captured the frames if you want to compare to your own video file. Some examples (go to the link to see 854x480 images; I've disabled hotlinking):
  16. I read that some things you will do at most once in your lifetime, things like moving a piano. For me, it's watching Evangelion. Once is enough. Took me a few weeks to free myself from the controvoluted plot. (I have a simple mind; I had to watch Ghost in the Shell three times before I understood it.) I do collect Rei, Asuka and Misato gashapons, although not the Evas. (Definitely not!)
  17. Just last month it's no, now it's yes. Well, December is just around the corner. We'll know when we come to it.
  18. Could they be rejected figures? (Failed QC) IIRC, the original figures are also very foul smelling. Don't hold them close and sniff! And it's not just these figures. Some Evangelion figures I got recently are also like that. But I think the smell will disappear in a day or two if you put them on display.
  19. While it's good to finally have Minmay in some other outfit, I should have skipped this release. Doesn't really resemble Minmay.
  20. I can't tell anything from the blury pictures. Looks alright to me. I won't mind a bootleg Minmay secret doll if the quality is decent.
  21. What the difference between Rick Dom and a plain Dom? Wasn't the plain one released as #3002? The head looks different (for the worse), it has lost its Dom signature. Edit: oops, I didn't realize the one with the different head is MS-10. I didn't know the heads are different. The Dom I had in mind is MS-09.
  22. This thread reminds me that I have forgotten the names of many of the old cartoons that used to fill my childhood. Here are two of them: 1. Young man lives on an island, girl escapes to it with her father's secret weapon, a plane that transforms to a robot, from an evil organisation. They went on to fight the organisation in every episode. Should be simple. 2. A group of people living under the sea (or something), pilots really ancient ships to fight off-Earth human invaders. Their mothership is a giant white whale. There's a girl guardian who was from ancient times, became a robot to be immortal (so to fight the invaders), was in love with the main hero, but reverted to human in the last episode. Again, should be simple. If it helps, I watched these shows in Singapore, should be around 1983 to 1986.
  23. What's the inside story? Seems everyone has a different version? Having seen the doll, I think I'll stick to the CMs one!
  24. I have a simpler two step method. 1. Wait for it to appear on Yahoo Japan. 2. Bid 100,000 yen. (And it's logical, think about it.)
  25. We've all seen the CMs Minmay doll. How about the super rare one?
