  1. Oh come on megatroptimus. You can't expect anyone to warm to you with this kind of display. By your own admission, you don't even care for the anime. So what is to gain? Just to say "Look at me, I proved the SDF-1 Macross has knees...I'm king of the world!" as if some of us didn't already know that. Eat your heart out James Cameron! In the end, you're complaining because the toy doesn't pose enough for squat thrusts, and you think it should based on the ONLY example of the Macross ever bending it's knee...a bend that amounts to about 2 degrees at that! Anyway, here's the diagram that I have (to be part of the SDF-1 Macross TV entry on the MacrossMechaManual)
  2. Damn. I admit, even if I REALLY liked the series, that'd be an awful sum of money to spend all at once. I'd much prefer to buy it in sections every 6 months to a year. I understand that people don't want a release if only the first season is actually going to get out. Then the fans are stuck with a first season set, knowing none of the rest of the series will ever be released. But still, that's just too much damn money to expect, especially since this series is VERY low profile here.
  3. Thanks Prime and Gabe Q. It's a lot of fun seeing this site grow.
  4. Worked out for the best anyway. I just noticed another one of those minor "?" errors in the Gnerl description. They pop up when I don't use HTML code for apostrophes and the like. I just corrected it and uploaded the new page. When you visit it again, just press relaod on the Gnerl screen and you should see it gone
  5. LOL! That is comedy gold! What the hell does the SDF-1 need knees for? It's not like the ship does flying air kicks
  6. Hey, nice quote! Never knew that actually existed in Macross.
  7. I suppose it's all relative, but the YF-19 is nonetheless a missile mecha and carries more than the VF-11 (sans FAST Packs). Long range mecha combat has never really been a major part of Macross, even from the days of SDFM and DYRL. We do see a few examples, but these mecha engagements always rapidly develop into closer range battle. I think it's fair to say that the majority of mecha battles in Macross are medium-to-close range skirmishes and dog fights. To me, the role of missiles in Macross is one of a complementary armament. OverTechnology just provides too much accurate point defense for a fire-and-forget battlefield. Missiles seem to function as either a one-two attack or screen fire, either serving up the coup de grâce in an already heated laser/ballistic engagement or as suppression fire allowing the missile-launching mecha a chance to gain superior position for a laser/ballistic kill.
  8. It's under SDF Macross. Zentradi - Vehicles - Gnerl SDF Macross page direct link to the Gnerl page
  9. I have to say I sure don't see missiles becoming less important in Macross as times progresses. I see perhaps the use of missiles in situations within the anime different than Valkyries vs. Regulds typical of the old SDF/DYRL era. However, design wise, it's clear the mecha of Macross are as missile-centric as ever. The standard VF-11 seems to be the only exception, with an emphasis on the gun pod and defensive options. But the YF-19, the YF-21 and the X-9 Ghost are all designed with a ridiculous amount of missile firepower, not including additional missile options in the FAST pack systems. As I understand it, wouldn't the contact phase of a missile ALWAYS be a factor, regardless of what era it is? I mean, putting aside magical sci-fi technologies like gravity control, thousand-g thrust and other physics altering technologies, the fact that a missile is always moving faster than it's target will mean evasion can be acheived given the right defense, correct? Like David Hingtgen said. So I guess momentum would be an issue and while a 20g-capable missile has the advantage over a 7g-capable fighter, the fighter might be able to alter it's momentum more than a missile going that much faster? Am I thinking along the correct line here?
  10. A 110 episode OVA...I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the concept. How did a series that lengthy not get a regular television release and become a series (until after the fact of course). The classification of LOGH as an OVA must have been due to the manner in which the productions were completed, having been made over a 9 year run rather than in bunchers of 26/36/49 episodes like most anime series. I think this would be very viable as a license for international distribution. THe animation is certainly good enough and above average, particularly compared to a lot of the shows that are distributed over here. I think LOGH also has a much broader appeal across anime subfandoms.
  11. I would love to see this series released. It's about the only anime I can think of that I would really seek out if released internationally. Most anime series I get into just happens when I take the time to give something new a try. But LOGH is something that's been in the back of my mind for a while. AN official release sure beats downloading it at 1 kb/s
  12. Oh, stop talking about it! You're making my willpower waver!
  13. Thanks for letting me know they are on a torrent system at Central ANime. WHen I have some time, I'm definitely going to download these and give them a watch. I've heard so much of the series over the years, it's a crime this series hasn't been released in North America yet. I would have purchased it by now. Maybe soon it will become liscenced. One can hope.
  14. I think the VF-11 forgoes a lot of missiles because in the military climate of the 230s and 2040s, perhaps it wasn't necessary. The VF-11 also has a very large ammunition payload. FIrst, it's armed with a 35 mm gun as opposed to a 55 mm gun, meaning the cannon can most likely carry more ammunition on it's own. Then the VF-11 features two more field-replacable magazines. It's gotta have at least triple or more ammunition than the old VF-1 fighters. Plus the VF-11 has stronger defensive options than earlier variable fighters, with the addition of the anti-projectile shield.
  15. I love the Saab 35 Draken. Always thought that stylistically, the thing just looked so damn futuristic. An updated version of the Draken would make a fantastic sci-fi fighter for some movie or series.
  16. I really want one of these. THe price isn't bad either. Naturally it's expensive, but what toy from Japan isn't overpriced nowadays.
  17. Shame on you Keats!. As an old timer, you should know better LOL, j/k. Glad you like the site. Keep coming back.
  18. Yeah, the RPG statistics are tough to go from because they arbitrarily fill in a lot of information because the blank spaces need filling in. I kinda have to stick with what little is known for fact and what actually happened in the anime. Usually, I have just enough to fill out a profile, but little else
  19. I remember this one. There was a big debate on Macross World years ago about these missile ports in the series. That's probably why Egan included the official word on the Macross Compendium to help solve the debate
  20. LOL, how true
  21. My big question is, during DYRL?, did Hikaru and Misa get it on during their time in Atlita? They explore the protoculture island-city, have a pretend dinner, Misa gets emotional, Hikaru consolers her and they kiss. Then the whole evening passes and in the next scene with the characters, Misa is shown zipping up her clothes. Looks like Hikaru had way more fun in DYRL than he ever did in SDFM
  22. I'm unaware of any hard, official information that states the Battle Suit is affiliated with anyone except the Zentradi. Because there's so little information, I just gave a vague listing of "Dissident Factions" as a catch all for either some Anti-UN group, the big Zentradi military, or rogue Zentradi groups from the Bodol fleet still operating after Space War I. But your guess is as good as mine.
  23. I suppose it's an idea. But it really depends upon your own screen resolution I guess. See, at my desktop res (1280x1024) the current pictures in each profile basically feel like thumbnails to me, even at 250 pixels in width. You click on them and they lead to a big 800+ pixel picture. Maybe at low resolutions, 250 pixels makes the initial pictures seem very large (like at 800x600, the thumbnails fill the whole left side of the screen). But really, the site is designed for 1024x768 or higher.
  24. How could I have ever doubted you?
