For the 'ol X-Com fans... "UFO Extraterrestrials"
Mr March replied to Warmaker's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Damn, there is a ton of X-Com information available on the internet! Some really good websites and even a fantastic X-Com wiki called "UFOpaedia." There's some stuff about X-Com I never knew and some cheats that I did Obviously, I've just reinstalled my CD and am now playing the game again -

Just read the reviews for those two games. Damn, Aftershock sounds terrible! -

Nice find Warmaker. My gawd does this game ever look like X-Com! I'm getting that old X-Com feeling just looking at the screen shots. THe resemblance is uncanny. Your thread here will be the first I've heard of this new game. If it's as good as the old X-Com (which is a tough act to follow) then I'll be really pleased. I played the hell out of X-Com back in the day. I was addicted from the demo...which came on a 3.5" disk inside a magazine back in those days, LOL! I'm going to have to check out the wiki entry mentioned here. It's been years since I've touched anything X-Com. I had no idea there were fan projects. -
Wow, very nice. I almost never come into this forum, but I saw the thread in the model section and just had to look Glad I did!

Hehehe, I got your reply chrono. What'd I tell ya? Like clock work Glad I could help. I'm looking forward to your next model.

That's a drawing by Kiyomi Tanaka, a designer who worked on Macross Plus. I'm unaware of it's status as far as canon. However, just based on observation and comparison with the few official internal drawings of the Reguld (as well as what is seen of the Reguld's innards in the anime itself), the diagram does not appear to contradict anything established thus far.

How does Haruhiko Mikimoto rate as a Character Designer?
Mr March replied to UN Spacy's topic in Movies and TV Series
The near-messianic praise for Haruhiko Mikimoto's character designs is one aspect of Macross fandom I've never understood. I guess for me, it's like the fans who don't understand why I love Macross Plus so much or why I adore DYRL? as such a great film or why I think the VF-1 is one of the best mecha designs of all time. I suppose each of us must suffer some misunderstanding for one REALLY popular element of our favorite franchise. This is definitely mine. I sure don't dislike Mikimoto's work. His designs are definitely unique and vibrant. However, they sure aren't the be-all, end-all of anime characters and I find a lot of his character designs to be dated. I find some of his interpretations to be inconsistent and I don't care for his representation of certain character features, particularly hands and ears. Given his role in numerous 80's anime, I suspect that's a big reason why his designs find such popularity among older fans. Personally, I prefer the character designs of Toshihiro Kawamoto, Masamune Shirow and especially the subtle, understated designs of Akemi Takada. I'm not sure if I'd list Mikimoto among them. -
Yeah, it's just a temporary fix until I can do a serious head-swapping for the Film style noggin I'll work on it today. ***EDIT*** Film Version VF-1A's have replaced the old temp pictures. Enjoy!
-
Okay mister_e, I fixed the DYRL section, removing the VF-1S Hikaru, and inputing the VF-1A instead. I also added Kakizaki's VF-1A sans FAST Packs. Finally, I added all three slightly different VF-1A Super color schemes, so we should be covered for any eventuality

Gaaaahhh, the scene Hurin refers to actually shows the CF with the black shoulders. Worse still, it shows the CF with the lengthwise black stripe on the arms. THis actually contradicts and earlier shot clearly showing a CF in fighter mode without black arm stripes. This is tragic Looks like I'm gonna have to show both variants.
-
Oh, okay. I'll take a look. Is it a fairly big shot, cause my crappy DVD might not show much of the detail I'm afraid? I'll check it out. Thanks a bunch Hurin!

Thanks Pat! I'm really glad you like it. I honestly didn't know what to do with the Fokker entry as far as the engine. I just filled in the statistics based on the real Fokker DVII, but there's no way to know for sure exactly what is powering the thing. A turboprop engine makes sense given what you've presented here, so maybe I'll just put in a generic "turboprop engine" for the entry. Not sure if we can be any more specific than that.

It's is lots of fun seeing these things in color and shaded. It's making me fall in love all over again with the Macross mecha I have no high resolution VF-11C line art, so the VF-11B was utilized. Same thing with the Gun pod. Also, I was working off this particular picture (which shows Macross 7 VF-11B's with Bayonets) due to a lack of available Macross 7 screen shots. http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/art/mcr093l.jpg Hopefully I can get some scans in the future and do both versions, plus both FAST Pack versions (Square and round nozzles).

Nitpick away 1. I don't recall ever seeing a VF-1A Cannon Fodder in Battroid mode in DYRL? I suppose we can use the TV series as a benchmark. I'll see what I can doo about modifying the line art further. 2. Yeah, I was struggling over this one when I first made the entry up. My copy of DYRL? really sucks, so I was unable to discern what model of VF Hikaru piloted in that particular scene. There is no VF-1A DYRL line art, so I'd have to build one. Another pet project...ack! Thanks for the comments. I'll see if I can fix these two.

MAJOR UPDATE Once again the Macross Mecha Manual is updated with more exciting mecha from the Macross universe. This update features 40 new profiles as well as revisions for a few existing entries. The success of the Macross Mecha Manual has been very apparent and fan reaction has been almost universally positive. As such the website will continue to expand as much as the mecha material allows. The focus of this update is Vehicles and Valkyries. Two more new Macross sections open with this update, Flashback 2012 and Macross 7. Lastly, I’ve opened the Humor section with some parody posters designed just for Macross fans. These “Macross Motivational Messages†are a small series of 15 posters that I hope make you all laugh or at least chuckle. The standout of this update: the VF-11 from Macross Plus and Macross 7 featured in two different color schemes and two variants. Here is a list of all the new Macross mecha added in this update: ***Macross Zero Section*** VF-0A ***SDF Macross Section*** Ambulance APC Boom Lift Truck ES-11D Cat’s Eye DL-88 Centipede M-299 GN XM-3002 Refrigerator Truck Sea Sergeant Spider Bug VF-X-4 Zentradi Shuttle ***DYRL? EXELENT MACROSS UNIVERSE VIDEO COMPILATION
Mr March replied to maximilian_jenius's topic in Movies and TV Series
Now that's an eye-opener! -
Best response so far
-
I'm afraid that's all I've got. I've never seen orthographic drawings of the GBP-1S. I'm not sure if any exist. Perhaps 1/48 scale Yamato CAD drawings, but those aren't "anime correct."
-
LOL, I actually found a picture of it Spartan Destroid Red (Matchbox "Gladiator")
-
It depends. If we're talking just designs and not official products, I can't recall whether my first Macross toy was the small red diecast Spartan Destroid or the Transformers Jetfire. If the criteria is official products only, I pre-ordered a 1/60 scale Yamato VF-1S, but I subsequently sold it. Now I just own 1/48 scale yammies

Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!
Mr March replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
That's exactly it. Well, except for the Macross 7 part, but I'm not a japanese fan so my taste or distaste for that series is really irrelevant in the context of this discussion I would think. -
Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!
Mr March replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Of course you'd disagree, you're a Macross fan and thus not representative of the majority of the current japanese anime fandom. As for SDF Macross, I implied the animation and music are the two strikes against the series as it relates to current fandom. I don't see how it could be the story, particularly since I'm also a Macross fan
