Custom titles are bestowed for whatever reason and are not part of the forum rules. It's all run pretty fast and loose. Maybe someone is trying to say something, though I think this situation could have been handled without the press coverage. MrMarch...O' Dimes, I say!

Star Wars: The Clone Wars CG TV series
Mr March replied to GRAND CANNON's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I won't speak for others, but the style and character design has nothing to do with the animation physics suffering from a lack of quality in my eyes. And you don't have to be anything but an average viewer to notice, especially if other's comments are to be beleived. I don't beleive the comparison to late 90's video game animation is inappropriate at all. Watching the cut scenes from Starcraft compared to this trailer only cements the analogy, the major differences being style and polygon count (and no, I'VE not addressed either as yet, which is the only person I'm speaking for; others can defend their own points). -
Star Wars: The Clone Wars CG TV series
Mr March replied to GRAND CANNON's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
This sort of guantlet can only be thrown down to create a big massive debate about the subject. I'll say only this instead: I see nothing wrong with enjoying Star Wars and this latest concept has potential, but even the casual eye can see the motion physics are lacking even in comparison to last generation work. Style, such as it is, hasn't even been addressed as yet and the exaggerated character design of this show means the Uncanny Valley has no relevance. If Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles is criticized for lousy CGI in ALL areas, it deserves ridicule. If Star Wars The Clone Wars is criticized for even a single lousy aspect of it's production, it is not exempted. -

That is never getting old. -
Great work! The weathering is prominent enough to look good, but not so much that it takes over the entire color scheme. The poses and the photography is pretty good too. THanks for sharing.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars CG TV series
Mr March replied to GRAND CANNON's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Saw this on another message board and I'm still of the same opinion about this new series. I like the character design and the scene composition, but the animation is like CG movie sequences in the late 1990s (I'm thinking Blizzard Entertainment video games, circa 1998). I expected far better motion physics from a current CG animation series, especially from a franchise with deep pockets like Star Wars. -
I always recommend Mobile Suit Gundam 0080 War in the Pocket, even to people not interested in Gundam or mecha anime. The quality of this story transcends the franchise and even the genre, IMO. Gundam 0083, Char's Counterattack, and the 08th MS Team are all fairly good. If I had to say which Gundam is good or the best, I'd list those above all the other Gundam I've seen. I can confirm that Gundam Wing is utter trash. I actually watched all 49 episodes of that series, including the OVA and movie. Some of the worst anime I've ever seen, don't even ask me why I stuck with all of it through to the bitter end. Come to think of it, my commitment may have been influenced by a song the brilliant Ko Otani contributed, but I admit that's a really weak excuse Though I've only seen a portion of episodes out of the total, I can also honestly say Mobile Fighter G Gundam confidently competes with Gundam Wing for worst Gundam anime series. If the complete cast of racial stereotyped characters doesn't turn you off, the utterly horrible mecha design and over-the-top story should be enough to sour any taste you may have had. Hope that helps.

Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!
Mr March replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Ah, nice to see some more official news. Thanks for the link A! -
I was actually old enough to catch Return of the Jedi in theatres (I was and I can still remember parts of the experience. What I remember most was my hometown had this massive drawing contest as part of the film's release. The interior of the big theatre was filled with fan art and they gave out a bunch of prizes. I submitted a picture of the Death Star II, but never won anything

I sure hoped you watched the game play video on the official site. It's first words of spoken in the video...classic dialogue, I love it!

I assume you're referring to Starcraft 64, that horrible port for the Nintendo 64. Yeah, that game along with "Deception" and "Ressurection IV" storylines should stay dead and buried, IMO.
-
Don't recall saying it wasn't, it just wasn't all that good compared to the original Starcraft storyline. As usual, I'm most certain some fans will want to hold Blizzard hostage to the open thread from Broodwar, but personally I don't think I'd be all that upset if they went another direction, especially if it's a much better narrative.
-
I suppose that's true. But as a sci-fi fan with more than a passing knowledge of physics, I guess I've just been desensitized to all the numerous factual errors made in film. Bring out the radiation inoculant!

Our staff here at MacrossWorld is also grumpy and jaded -
Uh, that's the mission my post referred to. The secret Protoss mission "Dark Origins", activated when you complete Zerg Mission 9 in Broodwar in under 20 minutes. It's not console specific.
-
I wonder more than anything else if the plot thread regarding the Protoss/Zerg hybrid that was left hanging in the secret Protoss mission of Broodwar will be dropped or expanded upon. Obviously, the P/Z Hybrid won't be a fourth "playable" race in the next Starcraft, but will this story element be embelished? How about the mysterious "creature" that Samir Duran really was, revealled during his brief exchange with Zeratul? I've got mixed feelings either way. On the one hand, I'm kinda curious where the writers were going with all this. Was it building into a true sequel or was all this just throwaway intrigue to make the expansion pack feel more of a dramatic story than it actually was? On the other hand, nothing really all that important - storywise, I mean - happens in Broodwar. To be honest, the whole expansion pack really felt like just an add on, which was I suppose the point. The P/Z Hybrid and Samir Duran Mystery really didn't sound all that promising, especially in comparison to the great narrative told in the original Starcraft game. I suppose I'll keep my eyes open for little hints of the upcoming story to Starcraft II.

Bloody hell! At that price, I'd expect glowing lights with a rechargable lithium-ion battery (included), 40 points of articulation, a gun with game-accurate sound effects and a $30.00 mail-in rebate!

Hehehe, now that you mention it, that is one big-ole horrible list of movies. But not to worry, though I will never again watch those lousy films mentioned above, rest assured Hollyweird will continue to produce a steady stream of cinematic garbage to dump in my nearest multiplex and video stores

The most credible criticism often voiced about the heroes in Warcraft III was the lack of balance. Many felt the heroes of Warcraft turned a RTS game into too much of a squad-based RPG due to the power of the hero units. Personally, I've felt Warcraft has had overpowered special units ever since Warcraft II. But that's really part of the Warcraft series. The "heroes" in Starcraft have never been powerfully game-altering and the focus has always been more on the regular units. I prefer it that way. I'm not sure if the game creators have been all that specific regarding hero units in Starcraft. Technically, Starcraft did not have "hero units", they had special units and often the goal was to protect those special units, not use them as your faction's equivalent of a juggernaut. I think it's likely we'll see special units in the sequel just like we did before in the original Starcraft, but they won't be something that significantly affects battle.

It's not all bad. I enjoyed the first Batman (1989) movie by Burton. But as anyone familiar with Burton's films will tell you, Batman (1989) was a Tim Burton film first and Batman film second. I also have to admit, as a comic book fan the recent Hollyweird obsession with the super hero film is worthwhile for the audience. Yes, the number of poor super hero films far outnumber the quality pictures, but how is that different than any other genre the studios milk? Every genre from science fiction to action films has suffered under that regime. If Hollywould must produce utter garbage like The Hulk, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Electra, Catwoman and it's ilk in order for them to bankroll X-Men, The Incredibles and Batman Begins, I'm willing to place my dollars in the films I like and withhold them from the films I don't. In the case of all the movies I've listed above, I'm proud to say I have done so
-
Actually, Tim Burton never read Batman and didn't give comic books the time of day. He had about as little respect for the source material as it gets, character design notwithstanding
-
I don't trust anything from AICN, that should go without saying. At the same time, I really don't see the traditional green haired clown design for the Joker flying in a Batman film by Nolan. The Scarecrow in Batman Begins was a less pretentious version of the typical costumed villian of the comic books and I expect Nolan will do something similarly subdued for the Joker.

Just read grss1982's link to the article on Gamespot (my thanks, not sure how I missed it earlier today). I have to say, the game sounds fantastic. My favorite quotes of information so far: At last, the Zerg will be unleashed in a way the game always intended. Fan-fricking-tastic! And less micromanagement is the essence of a good real-time system. I adore micromanagement in turn-based games, but if you're making a real-time format, you trash it! My other favorite quotes: What did I tell ya? Sounds like the game will run smooth.

Not that I'm defending a coming soon film that IMO looks like crap, but this John Rambo is a throwaway action film people. None of the sequences are going to stand up to scrutiny or more than 5 seconds of thought. Which is pretty much the whole point. The first time you see it, it's exciting and visceral. The second time through you start thinking and it's all downhill from there. As for the Die Hard films, I agree the first was the only good one. As for firearm errors in actions films, I could care less. Firearm talk, in the context of a film script, is the equivalent of technobabble for all intents and purposes. Any film relying on more than a passing mention of technobabble isn't a great film anyway.

For the 'ol X-Com fans... "UFO Extraterrestrials"
Mr March replied to Warmaker's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't really care for the Ethereals. The psionics are great but when I play them, they have pathetic armor, low health and their stamina is terrible. In a combined arms squad, I'd love to play Chrysallids. With the right tactics, they could devastate all the other units in the game. Strong armor, plenty of health, acceptable stamina and oh so many time units. They make the most ideal scouts and the most devastating cqc units, particularly their tendancy to have plenty of time units whenever they bump into someone.
