  1. Macross Zero was actually really good for explaining quite a few things that enhance the suspension of disbelief in the original SDF Macross. The helmets with the optical laser tracking was one such example, but the explanation of energy converting armor and the cyclops radar systems were two others. They helped explain why the Valkyries could sustain crash damage that would destroy conventional military vehicles and how the SDF Macross could detect ships/energy readings instantaneously over distances that would take hours or longer for traditional light speed electronic detection. Though I didn't care for the story of Macross Zero, it did add a lot of solid fictional embelishment to the franchise. It sure helped to create the mecha profiles in building of the M3
  2. Larger and younger fan base is the difference I would think. They may have a new series every year, but many of the fans are so much younger that maybe they've only seen a few Gundam series so far. Still, I think Macross 25 is going to be big for Macross. It's a television series and the pre-buzz will probably be much greater as a result.
  3. I agree, I really like the second visor built with glass. It allowed the helmet in Macross Plus to look like the original, but made it much more functional. Gamlin's helmet in Macross 7 (his VF-17 uniform) has that feature as well. Roy and Shin's helmets from Macross Zero were similar to Hikaru's old style, but did feature a smaller solid visor for better visibility and they did use the laser eye scanners to assist with the head cannon target acquisition. SO that does overcome a little of the disadvantages.
  4. Thanks for contributing. It's better than what I have, but still too small to color. I'll see if I can clean it up and post it with the next update. Merci!
  5. Magnificent! I love the small details you've given to the hull of the ship. That's always been part of what made the SDF-1 such a "classic sci-fi" design. I'd love to see more!
  6. Add another member to the list. I'm not receiving any pop up notices. I really liked this feature, so it'd be great if it would work again. EDIT: Wouldn't you know it, I just got a PM while I typed this message and the pop up magically appeared. I guess the problem has fixed itself. Or it could be a Firefox issue
  7. Nah. It's somewhat typical to slightly revise various elements of an anime television series when creating the film version. I think of DYRL? (and other such examples like the Escaflowne movie) as remixes more than anything else
  8. Hey, not all of us are doom-and-gloom with the notion of a reboot I'm quite indifferent either way, the only reaction I've had to the reboot concept is surprise. I never expected that particular possibility for the Macross franchise. However, until I see the show so I can get a read on the new series (good or bad), I'm gonna remain excited and interested. I like the scraps of the series we've seen so far. I'm eager to see more. The only thing I'm dreading is a lack of line art for Macross 25. For obvious reasons, I'm just praying for some published books
  9. LOL Seriously, I would have to agree with you. I suppose Big West would be "throwing in the towel" if they went the route I'm guessing they might have. But keep in mind that some business plans hedge bets based of risk and long term planning. When the legal proceedings began a few years back, it's possible Big West had a meeting that maybe went something like this: "Look, we want to do something for the Macross 25th Anniversary that's coming up in few years. We're gonna throw a budget of half a million at the legal angle and see if we can solve the Macross copyright issues to our satisfaction. If we win, great. If we get some half-baked compromise ruling, we go ahead with a reboot and take over Macross as a reinvention of the old franchise". Of course, this is a LOT of speculation, but all I've got is questions and no answers right now. Until something solid comes out, I'm trying to rationalize what a little blurb means in the latest Macross chronology. Who knows, maybe it won't even be that big a deal
  10. Wow. This development could mean quite the change for the franchise. A possible Macross reboot? I have to say, I never expected the idea. Of course, it's not like much can be gleaned from this little blurb, but it's just the implications of what it sounds like that are so attention grabbing Could this possible interpretation of Macross 25 as a reboot be influenced by the results of the legal proceedings of the last few years? With a reboot, Big West basically reclaims everything Macross; from that point forward they have total control. But on the other hand, how different would it be from just producing a regular Macross sequel, which at most would have only minor connections to older Macross? Man, my head is spinning with questions!
  11. Welcome to MacrossWorld DiabloD3! The upcoming updates to your website sound great! I can't wait to see more Macross stuff. I like the Escaflowne picture, especially the mecha picture.
  12. Ah, some more pieces of information. From the sounds of this entry in the chronology, perhaps Macross 25 takes place on a colony fleet? Or maybe the Macross Galaxy and Macross Frontier fleets are back story and the Macross 25 story begins on a newly founded colony? Oh, the speculation. Thanks for the info kresphy
  13. A quality website! I have to send an e-mail praising his work. Not just Macross (although the stuff he's got is fantastic!) but the other stuff he has is amazing. He's got some great artistic interpretations of O'Niel space habitats. A bunch of Battlestar Galactica and and some Battletech stuff too. Wow, this guy really knows the meaning of quality work. Thanks so much for sharing Batou!
  14. I looked, but nothing. I went searching on google for an hour, typing all kinds of descriptive combinations to get some kind of crew breakdown/manifest/assignment listing. Nothing
  15. From where I sit, I'm looking at a fan whose sense of entitlement was so great he lashed out in anger because of it. Understandable, since we've all been passionate about some perceived injustice at least once in our life, no matter how trivial. Sadly, this particular protest was ill-conceived and serves to harm the very cause you purport to champion. To add further insult to injury, the victim handled the situation with grace. There's no guilt suffered by anyone here who has an opinion on the subject and certainly no blame for sharing comment on your actions. Flippantly proclaiming "I knew I'd be hated!" for this stunt lends you no credibility and only continues the downward spiral. You've marred the image of Robotech fandom and they'll forever be diminished by that black mark without any redemption forthcoming from you. So since no one pays attention to anyone else here at MacrossWorld, let's tread just a bit more water, shall we. I say take your comeuppance with humility and that's the best you can hope to salvage out of this mistake of yours. Unless you'd like to do something as unexpectedly rational as apologize to Yune and maybe even direct that misplaced passion toward something constructive for the Robotech fandom you claim to represent.
  16. Gotta agree with TheLoneWolf. Yune was a good sport and this guy didn't accomplish anything except to look stupid.
  17. Until Mac 7... Until the Protodevlin came across... After that point, flying pink alien bovines can be created after the first protodevlin was introduced and it doesn't change the point, as originally stated.
  18. My thanks briscojr84. You're absolutely correct. I was just about to post that little tidbit.
  19. This has been my understanding of Macross as well. Technically, there were no aliens in Macross until Macross 7. Sentient life, as known so far in the Macross universe, was all tied to the original species, the Protoculture...until the Protodevlin came across (who are not from the primary universe).
  20. Living proof why the phrase "as far as I can discern" is so important in these threads. THe defense rests, your honor
  21. Drew, you're a very bad man
  22. Believe it or not, there is a minority of us that are enjoying the small amount of relevant discussion in this thread. We're doing fairly well ignoring the self-appointed "parents" of the thread and we're even having a little fun trading our wish lists, so its not a total loss Summary - as far as I can discern - of the past few weeks Macross 25 is indeed a working name only. A big scan of the latest concept art for Macross 25 According to Kawamori in the article, the setting will be a school and will feature teenage students for characters. In the article, Kawamori apparently explains he avoided doing a new Macross TV series because he could not produce a level of quality animation that could match the OVAs and thus didn't want to disappoint Macross fans. But now that technology has helped improve TV production values, he's gone ahead with the new Macross series. The Official Macross Website has the release for Macross 25 listed as October.
  23. As far as I can recall, every anime series I've enjoyed I've been hooked from the first episode. Frankly, I've rarely had much of a need to "warm up to a series." There has been the rare exception where I've disliked a series or film then become a fan later, but the vast majority of the time I'm either a fan from the start or nothing. If you keep watching a series after a supposedly lousy first episode you can't stand, obviously there's at least one aspect of the series you find interesting to such a degree you're willing to keep watching...or the power of boredom is the your motivation *raises hand in guilt* In the case of Macross, I was hooked from the word go. When I saw the first episode of Cowboy Bebop, I knew this was something different that I would adore. When I was first exposed to Escaflowne even via a lousy edited, dubbed version on TV, there was no doubt I'd watch more. Correspondingly, nearly every anime I've disliked I have hated since the start. Trigun, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Bubblegum Crisis, Lodoss War...everyone was convinced I'd love all this anime if I'd just keep watching more. And so I did...and they never got any better. Gundam Wing carries the distinction of the final anime series I disliked from episode one that I watched all the way to episode 49 plus an OVA and a movie. If trying to entertain myself, I will never do that again Roy's death was also very important to me in Macross, though I was a diehard way before it got to that point. Much like yourself, it was a revelation, a point at which I gained much more respect for anime as a medium than traditionally western animation (though even at that age I was already long since bored with Saturday morning cartoons and refused to watch them unless I could play with my lego in front of the television). That respect was reaffirmed when I caught Macross Plus in the 90's and largely reintroduced myself into anime (even though I owned a couple anime films prior to that). WHen I finally got the original Macross on DVD, Roy's death was even more emotionally jarring in the original. It was almost like experiencing it for the first time again. I guess one of the aspects of Macross that I really appreciated early was the proper depiction of warfare and real losses. The mecha would fire upon each other and explode, even the "good guys". I really enjoyed that because it made so much sense to me. One of the reasons I hated most children's cartoons was the ridiculous depiction of warfare. SOmehow even at that young age, I knew that you weren't knocked over by a gun and no one ever fired at the feet of their enemy The progression of a real story was also very important to me. Even in the first few episodes you can see the story progressing and it's not just some static show that resets at the end of each episode. That was a big hit with me.
  24. Maybe this pilot knows human culture throws the Zentradi offguard, so he's got a picture of a woman in his cockpit to give them a scare Maybe the symbol is Zentradi for "I kiss females!"
