The Destroids on the Macross Quarter are definitely a variation of the Cheyenne, but they are different. The "Quarter Destroids" have very similar features to the Cheyenne, like the torso, head and similar arms, but they appear to have much larger guns and larger missile launchers. Plus there seems to be some stylistic alterations, though I need better pictures to compare them in depth. For curious fans, here's a screen capture of the Destroids on the Quarter: http://www.new-un-spacy.com/miscellaneous/...07-destroid.jpg ANd here's the old Destroid Cheyenne: The Valkyries have "overboost" which basically the sci-fi equivalent of an afterburner. It's part of the statistics for the VF-1 and basically doubles the thrust of the reaction engines. It's also included in the official line art: http://www.new-un-spacy.com/sdfmacross/vf-...rolsandbelt.gif -
Ah, so more like only 30 years. I suppose it could still be in effect all this time. Too bad for the big fellas, though, who really wants to live on Earth anymore anyway?

Terminator Salvation, colon, Really Long Movie Title

Damn Bale! His credibility is undermining my preconceived negative opinion of this sequel. Well, that does it then. My only hope to save face at this point is to have Christian Bale meet with an unfortunate injury that prevents his involvement in these sequels I so fervently wish to despise. Don't worry Christian, I'll go easy on ya -
I know something that definitely won't be in the Robocop remake...all the violence. That film was heavily criticized for it's violence back in the day and compared to what's passing for an "action movie" these days, the original Robocop is positively hell spawned in the eyes of modern censors. Expect some PG-13 garbage from any prospective remake. Red Dawn was always garbage, so who cares?

Doom to Doom, mwuhahahaha Very nice articles. It is kinda sad that Spielberg and Lucas think of Doom as a failure for all the wrong reasons. But what can fans really do when we're outnumbered 1,000 to 1 by the average movie-goer who doesn't know any better. I do share in lamenting the changes that Spielberg and Lucas have done to their own films. It's just tragic really; they are doing things to their films that in their youth they would have fought tooth and nail against. Just imagine a young Spielberg being told by a censor to remove the guns from his government agents in ET or Lucas being told by a waffling studio executive that Han firing first can't be allowed. Oh how the mighty have fallen Anyway, a great read and thanks for the link. For once, you've made yourself useful bsu, for which I blame EXO

Zindonut Gotta have colored sprinkles on top. My favorite -
I endure the over reactions, obsession with minutiae and generally raging fanboy-isms knowing that there is some useful criticism and worth while advice if one can filter through all the crap. Ideally, I'd want only serious criticism that actually has some merit to be posted on the forums, but outside of this ideal (which likely can never be) I'd rather put up with the worst silliness than to have no constructive criticism at all. I own several Yamatos and I'm happy with them. I also intend to buy that new VF-1 1/60 scale. However, the VF-0 shoulder debacle was worth knowing about. Yamato fumbled the ball on that one and I'm glad I stayed far away.

Macross has been off the radar since the mid-1990s. That's basically a lifetime in the world of popular entertainment. WIth the exception of history and an aging fan following, Macross Frontier will have to earn it's audience as much as almost any other show. Personally, I'm not worried. Word of mouth has been very positive for the show so far and the ratings have been respectable. -
One of my trusted review sites just gave Indy 4 a glowing review. But like I said before, I would have been going to this particular film anyway. I'm much more willing to take a chance on Spielberg and Lucas than most other director/producer teams. With luck, it won't be as bad as Temple of Doom.

That's basically all there is to it. You can't scout or scan for habitable planets in fold space. Surveying for possible worlds and mapping of star systems must be done in real space. These activities would take up the majority of the fleets time. Then of course, there's also the limitations/laws that govern fold travel, to which we the audience are not privy. It's likely the colonization fleets could not spend most of their time in super dimension space because of power requirements, effects upon the crew, navigation concerns, et cetera. In fact, it's only in Macross Frontier that we are actually starting to learn a bit more about fold space than we have before. It's just something we've largely taken for granted up until now, but like any technology, there's much more to space folding than what we've come to accept because we didn't have any choice.

No, because it's not the time line that's important, it's the event of the Alien StarShip-1 landing on the planet. It doesn't matter when the alien ships crashes, only that it does and that OverTechnology from that ship is introduced to humanity. Our technology couldn't accomplish what they do in Macross anyway, not even with a hundred more years development, so it doesn't really matter either way.

Astounding, exciting and crowd-pleasing are all words that describe episode 7 of Macross Frontier, but even these words fail to capture the best parts of the show. The conflict between the New UN Spacy and the Vajra is clearly escalating and the stakes are becoming that much greater. The Macross Quarter arrives to investigate the location of the distress signal from remnants of the Macross Galaxy fleet. The Vajra are already on the scene but now the Macross Quarter and crew are prepared for their enemy. The episode chronicles the battle in full and we see the true power of the Macross Quarter as it engages a Vajra warship. Macross Frontier once again proves the many virtues of a properly told story in this episode and the drama is both emotional and exciting. In Macross 7, dozens of friendly ships are destroyed and it’s meaningless, especially to the viewer. In Macross Frontier when a single friendly ship is destroyed that loss is felt by all the characters and the audience most of all. This resonance of emotion is at the heart of Macross Frontier and the creators of the story continue to play upon that theme in this episode to great effect. Alto, Luca, Mikhail and Ozuma all fight against the Vajra with bravery and skill. Unfortunately Luca takes a few too many chances to grab some close reconnaissance data of the Vajra ship and is captured. Alto fearlessly chases after him determined to mount a rescue. In the midst of this another new fighter appears on the scene, a VF-27 piloted by the unknown Brera Stern. He appears to aid Alto and Luca but his motives and possible connection to Mr. Bilrer remain unclear. The Macross Quarter makes the much anticipated transformation debut and destroys the Vajra carrier in a spectacular fight. All the while, Sheryl is playing her final concert on the Macross Frontier and Ranka is there for the show. Throughout the episode, there are hints of connections between the Alto, Sheryl and Ranka but the nature of them are unclear. The beginning of episode 7 speaks of cybernetics common among the people of the Macross Galaxy fleet and there are hints that many of the supporting cast such as Grace and Brera may feature such cybernetics. Without doubt Macross Frontier Episode 7 is pure anime mecha action. For mecha fans, an episode of exciting battles and spectacular visuals is just the reward needed to enhance an already great show. Macross Frontier is so far delivering plenty of eye candy for action fans and it’s not something any fan of mecha anime should miss. At the same time the show never forgets the characters or the story and we’re treated to more revelations in this episode that prompt yet more questions. Where did the VF-27 come from and who is Brera Stern? Where are the Vajra coming from and who is building their ships? What is the connection between Leon and Mr. Bilrer and what are their motives? The only way to know is to watch more and next up is episode 8. Deculture! -

The Macross Compendium describes the VF-25 Messiah as having beam cannons. Since all other weapons on the VF-25 Messiah have been accounted for (the gatling gun is in the new style gun pod, the laser cannons are on the head unit) the beam guns would have to be those two weapons on the outside of the intakes/hips. It also makes sense the VF-25 would have beam cannons if it is supposed to be comparable to the VF-19/VF-22 in terms of combat performance (both of which have beam weapons). And lastly, the VF-25 beam guns are in almost the exact same place as they are on the VF-19 (wing root tips) and the VF-22 (mounted farther rearward but firing over the same angle). -

Okay Thor, sounds good me. Verily

Yeah, I've heard that theory before. I'm not sure what to make of it. I suppose it could be possible it's a deserted city out in the middle of nowhere. Or maybe a populated city where most everyone has left to go to the ceremony/concert? Or perhaps it's another mock city, like the urban combat zone at New Edwards on Eden? Though, that sounds just a little too convenient Well, whatever the explanation, it could very well be another city. It's hard to say.

I don't even want to know where that was going -
Macross City is a major settlement and quite massive based on the map, but we don't know exactly how many other settlements exist on Earth (at least settlements of any consequence). I'd be really surprised if there was anymore than a few hundred million people living on post-war Earth during the 2040s. Cloning and the Factory Satellite would no doubt aid growth, but it's reclamation and resources that's the biggest problem on post-war Earth. At any rate, we see massive barren, blasted portions of the Earth from orbit in the Macross Plus anime (there's one scene specifically shown during the Ghost testing, when the X-9 is destroying those orange VF-11 drones). So we have to assume large portions of the Earth are not reclaimed or inhabited. In answer to your questions: 1. I'll repost my answer to another member: So there's actually more than enough humans remaining to repopulate naturally. But the use of Protoculture cloning technology helps the human population grow far, far more quickly. 2. I doubt Macross City was deserted, just very empty. The 30th Anniversary ceremony combined with the most popular music idol in the Galaxy is likely what lead to the empty feeling of the city. Most everyone would be at the ceremony/concert. And it was early morning. I remember the early Sunday mornings in my old home city of Calgary (approx 1 million pop). The downtown core looked like a ghost town, no pun intended

Adding up survivors at the Apollo Base on the moon, survivors from the UN Spacy fleet, survivors in the Grand Cannon facilities, the SDF-1 and other small space outposts probably adds up to at least a million human survivors. The Macross Compendium states the following: So there's actually more than enough humans remaining to repopulate naturally. But the use of Protoculture cloning technology helps the human population grow far, far more quickly.

I recall several members noting in the past that even by 2040, Earth is still not fully recovered as a whole (and likely never will be). There are huge expanses of land that are just massive blasted craters which can be seen from orbit (these backgrounds are also featured in the anime itself). There's also several landscapes drawn up for Macross Plus included in the book This Is Animation The Select Macross Plus Movie Edition showing large parts of Earth as barren and crated-filled. There is no doubt that the Earth has been repopulated to a degree, but it's also clear that it's no where near as populated as it once was and most of the landscape hasn't been restored. I created a new entry for the Macropedia that discusses the Galaxy Network, so I'll post it here to answer the question: Galaxy Network (Galaxy Network Signal) A trans-galaxy communication network utilized by the United Nations Government (UNG). Built upon satellites and relays equipped with fold communication systems, the Galaxy Network Signal allows all the colony planets of the UN to remain in real-time contact with each other. The many colonization fleets of the UNG also use the galaxy network signal to remain in contact, often using specialized communication ships disguised as resort vessels (such as the Hollywood Amusement Ship attached to the 37th long-distance colonization fleet lead by the Macross 7). If you're looking for information on the Factory Satellite, which is initially very significant in the massive post-war rebuilding of the UN Spacy fleets, I have an entry for it on my website found by selecting this link.

Always look at the bright side: at least Macross Dynamite 7 was much shorter than Macross 7 the series
