  1. Tobi54 Way I see it, that response is the gold star for my opinion. Blood is up and just keeps getting worse with each post, like I said. I'm out. Wolfx I'm not so sure about that other colors would work. The VF-25 is already using a broad range of colors; the White and Red, Grey and Yellow, green, blue and cannon fodder brown. There's not much left for the VF-19/VF-22 to use that would fit along with the more military color scheme like the ones being used for the Valkyries in Macross Frontier. They can't really go all out with the garish schemes of Macross 7, so there's not much left. I bet Kawamori and Co. even had a big debate about Luca's craft, but ultimately went with it despite similarities to the VF-171 and hoped the differences in the craft would be enough to differentiate them.
  2. Yes, the "For Fans Only" section has a lot of goodies like that. Comparison pictures, fan art, size charts. It's small still, but there is a chance you might find some goodies in it: For Fans Only section on the Macross Mecha Manual Enjoy
  3. Not from where I'm standing. The last few pages since the suggestion have been going so crazy to the point that Graham had to ask everyone to stop. And it likely wouldn't have gotten that bad if everyone wasn't enticed to jump into the whole mess and take their shots. But that's my take on it and I'm not wasting any more time on it.
  4. Hmmm, I think the "For Fans Only" section of my website is going to need a bit more of a presentation in my next update. Fans really need to take a look inside more often to find the goodies that can answer their questions VF-11B and VF-11C comparison http://www.new-un-spacy.com/forfansonly/co...attroid-red.gif Hope that helps.
  5. Noyhauser Why not discuss cost considerations as canon Macross fact? They are! The canon statistics for the variable fighters have already spoken many a time of cost considerations. Just read the Macross Compendium entires. One of the great things about Macross is it created a complete, realistic world with love and death, militaries and governments, money and fame. If one is going to analyze the military of Macross in any credible way, one must account for all the real world considerations of a modern military including supply, maintenance, logistics, deployment and yes, even cost. Sorata It's going well. The Game & Advanced Valkyrie section will be the most active for variable fighter profiles in the next update. The VF-14, VF-9, VF-3000, Neo-Glaug, Variable Glaug and new color schemes for some existing fighters are already completed and ready to go. I'm hoping to have an update out in a few weeks, I'm just waiting on some scans. Tobi54 Well in my opinion, the whole idea to segregate the animation discussion to another thread IS the problem. The animation quality discussion was doing fine until this little objection came along. Now it's made a mountain out of an anthill, EVEYRBODY is getting in on it with an opinion and we got drama attached to it. The subject has even been derailed thanks to this undue attention and people are posting screen shots from GITS for crying out loud. The request should have been handled via personal message to a mod rather than stirring up controversy, IMO. Batou There's nothing wrong with reading a bit more into the mecha of Macross. It's a fun exercise in world creation, like fictional anthropology for those that like that kind of thing (myself included). However, I will agree that overall, the VF-11 Thunderbolt, the YF-19/VF-19 Excalibur and the YF-21/VF-22 Sturmvogel II have had more than enough time to shine in Macross Plus and Macross 7 combined. I don't care if we never see them again, especially when a quality show like Macross Frontier is taking front and center. I'm curious about the fiction and the chronology and want more information, but I'm 100% totally fine with the way Macross Froniter is going, so far Zinjollory Oh yeah, that VF-9 is awful I just got through coloring them. Gawd, what an ugly Valkyrie. I don't even like the fighter mode that much though I'll admit it's the best mode of the three. The damn thing look's ready to fly apart at any given moment. I don't know what the heck is going on with the GERWALK mode
  6. Then the first order of business is for you to watch SDF Macross Master Dex. That's a must. And trust me, you'll gain a whole new appreciation for Macross once you watch the original. It's a tighter story, better pacing, coherent editing, a pile of missing scenes and simply all around superior. In some ways those Macross fans who've never seen the original are lucky because watching SDF Macross allows you to fall in love with Macross all over again. As for Macross 7, well, I'm just suggesting you give it an honest try. You can never know for sure until you try. I watched the first dozen episodes years ago and hated it, then watched the whole thing last year and hated it even more. So I'm really the last person you should be talking to if you're debating whether or not to watch it But digressing, if you're on Veoh, watch SDF Macross. The sooner you get off Robotech, the better
  7. The VF-19 does appear in many Macross 7 episodes and once it's introduced it makes multiple appearances all the way to the end of the show. The problem is none of the main characters use the VF-19F or the VF-19S (only Basara pilots the VF-19Custom). So needless to say the VF-19 kinda gets the shaft being relegated to a secondary set of characters and most of the sequences are all recycled footage. On the plus side, the VF-19 fares much better in Macross 7 than the poor VF-11C, the canon fodder de jure There's no harm in being introduced to Macross via Robotech. Some of us were, myself included. But Robotech didn't make me a Macross fan. That honor belongs to Macross Plus. After that, along came the original SDF Macross, DYRL? and then all the rest I can't stress enough that you should watch DYRL?. I also think it's good if you give Macross 7 an honest attempt. You don't have to watch the whole thing, but if you give it a good 4-6 episodes, that's more than enough to give it a chance. And who knows, you might like it. On the subject of the YF-21 and the VF-22 Sturmvogel II, I can help you there as well! I previously made up comparison pictures and they are already on my website (visit the For Fans Only section, under the heading "Line Art Comparison Pictures")
  8. IMO, it's not necessary. Like I said, starting that kind of thing is just going to complicate and snowball the issue. There's already too many pinned threads. This topic should suffice (and that's what it's for). As for mecha, Macross Frontier is a mecha show and technical talk is not only to be expected, but encouraged. Some of us are running websites on the subject and need all the help we can get. I don't see any Macross fansites devoted to the animation quality of Macross Frontier (and thank gawd for that ).
  9. With all due respect to everyone, I don't think this is an issue that requires the hammer to come down. The discussion of animation quality, however annoying to some, is maintaining a relatively civil level of debate. There's simply no need to start moderating the hell out everything. There is already a rather uncomfortable level of moderation , but I'm going to write that off to the fact that it's a busy time for Macross World and all that baggage. Moral of the story: discuss what you want and allow others to do the same. When something truly gets out of hand, believe me, we'll all know it
  10. There are several cosmetic differences between the YF-19 and the VF-19. The most obvious change (aside from the color) would be the much smaller and redesigned main wings on the VF-19 Excalibur. The best thing to do is just look at the two designs closely and compare. I have the YF-19 "Alpha One" profile on my website as well as the VF-19F Excalibur profiled. Regarding fan preference, most fans have many an issue with Macross 7, some haven't even seen it, many fans don't like the changes made for the VF-19F/VF-19S and perhaps most important of all, the VF-19 is simply never given much chance to shine. In contrast, Macross Plus featured the YF-19 front and center, so typically the prototype receives all the fan attention. Plus, the first production model VF-19A Excalibur is identical to the YF-19 save color, so many fans just equate the YF-19 as the main production line version anyway. EDIT I made up a quick 3-fighter comparison picture to help you In order is the YF-19/VF-19A at the top the VF-19 Custom in the middle the VF-19F at the bottom: http://www.new-un-spacy.com/miscellaneous/...f19-fighter.gif
  11. They definitely look like Zentradi ships (rear view of the Quiltra-Quelamitz Class Gunboat specifically).
  12. *is reminded of the episodes were Motoko looked like the toy doll version of herself* As much as I love the show, GITS had more than it's fair share of animation lows as well Ironic isn't it? I think maybe that's why some reacted strangely to my episodes reviews. This one came 21 pages into the episode discussion. But what can you do? I can't write a review about a show I don't understand. Such is life
  13. Omg, that's hilarious. Bit of an overstatement, but damn funny nonetheless
  14. They are episode reviews, which I'm going to compile once the show is done and post on my website. I figure I'd post them for anyone interested. Just pass them over if you're not interested; no obligation to buy
  15. LOL Rest assured Exedol doesn't tentacle rape anyone The Macross games are a tough one that I can't answer. I've never had the pleasure of playing a Macross game, so I'm unfortunately ill equipped to describe the stories. Hopefully other members can help out.
  16. It's the deep inhale before the plunge, as they say, and I can't wait for more. Episode 6 of Macross Frontier begins placing the pieces for what is sure to be a major confrontation in episode 7. When we left off in episode 5 the Macross Frontier had received a distress call from the Macross Galaxy fleet. The Vajra have launched a major strike against them and the Frontier fleet has decided to launch a rescue. Our characters spend some personal time with each other before the inevitable conflict and we sense some trepidation from Alto. It's clear he's growing feelings for Sheryl but it's also clear he's not able to detach from his fondness for Ranka. While he tries to keep her at a distance, Alto is still going out of his way to maintain a connection with her, a choice that will most likely come back to haunt him when Ranka imposes her feelings upon him. Ranka for her part has demonstrated her commitment to being a singer and when she returns to her older brother Ozuma, it's with a talent scout in hand asking Ozuma's permission to represent the young Ranka. With credibility at her side, Ozuma has little choice but to reluctantly accept Ranka as a growing star. Sheryl decides to continue her farewell concert in the face of the horrifying news of the attack on her home fleet, but we know that she's already made a connection with Macross Frontier and it's likely to be her home before long. Though there is little in the way of character development, this episode is mostly an affirmation of the connection between all the established characters. The last part of the episode features Sheryl's final concert intercut between the launch of the Macross Quarter and its rescue fleet. It makes for a truly emotional and moving finale filled with tension for the terrible conflict to come. Macross as a show is known for being rather lethal with characters and if the original is any indication, we may see some of our heroes pass before long. For now, we're left with the impending danger that awaits them and the sense of resolve Ozuma hopes to inpire in his brave warriors. Next up, episode 7. Deculture!
  17. I love it I agree, the characters are totally different. I'm going to remember this post when the subject comes up on other boards. I'll draft my response the same way
  18. I understand where you're coming from Radd and there's nothing wrong with being critical of the show, especially since most of us are so familiar with Macross it borders on obsession. But frankly I see Macross Frontier being held to a different standard, much like eugimon has said. It's almost as if the incredible CGI work has become, in many ways, a scapegoat for the show. In fact, we're very close to some fan posting crap like "Macross Frontier wins points for it's great CG work, but the 2D character animation is lacking" when in fact Frontier has maintained pace with the 2D animation of it's contemporaries and surpassed them with the CG work. But like I said, I think that impressive CG has created this imaginary benchmark where some fans are expecting more from the 2D work in Frontier than what they expect from other shows. I'm afraid that as impressive as Macross Frontier is above all the other anime shows, it does have limits.
  19. A note about...cockpits I think the most important reason why the wrap-around imaging monitor is not used in the VF-25 Fighter mode is likely cost. It's probably much cheaper to avoid animating the fighter cockpit because this is a television series after all and most of the time the characters will be shown on screen piloting the VF-25 in fighter mode. For an in-universe explanation, cost may also be a factor. The NUNS can afford to blow money on wrap-around imaging monitors for the VF-171 but a private company like SMS may look for the most practical piloting method that is also the most cost effective. The extensive internal holographics of the VF-25 cockpit seem more than adequate to assist the pilot in situational awareness and the wrap around imaging system is only really necessary for the Battroid mode. Course, this may be a stretch rationalizing this much, but it makes sense nonetheless. The VF-22 cockpit does feature a wrap-around imaging system, just not as extensive as the YF-19 system. The VF-22 cockpit has a little bit more than a 180 degree wrap-around imagining system which is mostly limited to the inside of the cockpit canopy (though to the lower rear left and right sides of the pilot there is some more veiwable area). What little we see of the VF-22 cockpit suggests a return to extensive holographics more so than the YF-19, so perhaps cockpit holographics was a trend in the next generation fighters. I agree, though this doesn't just apply to Gundam. Macross Frontier is being raked over the coals more than any other show for visual quality, but I suppose that's what Macross Frontier gets for being the best show
  20. Bravo! A great breakdown of all the things I love about Frontier. I just hope they don't screw it up
  21. I'd have to agree. Episode 7 appears to be using the same "second unit studio" (is that the correct term? It reminds me of second unit in film terms, but I don't know if that applies in animation).
  22. I think it's the Macross Quarter graham. The "attack mode" ship at the end of the Frontier OP has the same bridge and arms as the Macross Quarter (especially telling is the right arm) and the colors match the Macross Quarter. Also, you'll note the Macross/Battle 25 looks very much like the New Macross Class. Watch the beginning of Macross Frontier episode 1 during the inital Frontier flyby and you can clearly see the distinct features of the NMC vessel, just with a lot more detail
  23. I agree for the most part. I do wish they hadn't made the decision to change to a different studio for episode 6 and hope they go back to their primary artists sooner rather than later. But there can never be another situation like Anime Friend/STAR PRO, mainly because of the CG work (take that CG detractors). And as bad as the character art was in episode 6 of Macross Frontier, it's no where near as bad as the drop between the Studio Nue work and the Anime Friend/STAR PRO animation in SDF Macross. I'd prefer the primary animators do the work, but if episode 6 is the worst it ever gets on Macross Frontier, I can stomach it a lot easier.
  24. Exedol most certainly has a body; the problem is he's a full sized Zentradi and he's simply too big to see anything more than his head on the Battle 7 bridge. His "tentacles" are mostly likely just OverTechnology, robotic assist arms that are used to manipulate objects. You'll see Exedol in full later in the series.
  25. There's been NO OFFICIAL CONFIRMATION as yet, but I think most fans agree the VF-27 is going to look something like this fella: http://www.new-un-spacy.com/miscellaneous/...ible-vf27-1.jpg http://www.new-un-spacy.com/miscellaneous/...ible-vf27-2.jpg http://www.new-un-spacy.com/miscellaneous/...ible-vf27-3.jpg
