  1. Harrison Ford and the latest Indiana Jones movie is the most recent example, although that was an actor and the two producers (and why they finally agreed on the film that was made I'll never know...). The idea applies to property owners as well though.
  2. It is quite possible that HG has a veto option on any proposed script, they are large enough that they might, small enough that they probably do not. Contracts for film adaptations can be written in a million different ways, just because a company buys the rights for a feature film does not necessarily mean that the company has carte blanche at that point.
  3. The first disk has 7 episodes on it, so I'll be able to see just enough to watch it go down the drain. (and thus not waste time with a second DVD if I don't like it).
  4. I've just started watching STRAIN, first episode shows promise. I like it when I think a show is going to go in one direction and then does a 180 before the end of the first episode.
  5. How do you guys search through PixIV? I tried to use the English translation tool from Google and then no pictures show up - without it I can't make any sense of the page...
  6. It managed to "offend" a very vocal minority, I never personally met anyone who preferred the old show to the new one though. It also managed to keep very good public opinion for 4 years, where the original was pretty much a joke after just one year. And we can all ignore that 1980 stuff... That said, a remake of Macross would go very wrong if it strayed the way BSG did, all SDFM would need is a new coat of paint (ALA The First), the basic story and the characters for Macross holds up very well today - the only thing that does not is the "lurch" in the story caused by the ordering of more episodes and the terrible animation at some points. Brings up a question, is "The First" supposed to be based on Minmei's (Minmay?) recollection of the events? If so that easily explains any differences between it and SDFM (like Hikaru giving Misa flowers when he first meets here? - did I read that in an earlier post?)
  7. Reminds me - a month or so before the SciFi channel went live they showed a screen full of static, but in the static was pictures from scifi movies and TV shows. Sadly I "watched" quite a bit of that...
  8. That is a noted problem with CGI that is too human like, it is probably one reason that Pixar does not make the humans in their animation too realistic (even though other things are nearly photorealistic). The closer CGI gets to be "real" the more creepy the things that are not realistic become.
  9. Which leads to the question of why a better quality version is not on the web - it's marketing 101 these days. If that is directed at me, I get all my news from here (and anime news network - but generally important stuff seems to get posted here first...)
  10. Ditto, that is one bad quality video. The thing was far too grainy for me. I generally like Harlock, and would love to see a mdoern CG version, but that video did not inspire any hope - simply due to it being so low quality of a video.
  11. It will be anounced to be on hiatus - with hiatus meaning something other then what it actually means - other then the fact that it will not get released for years if at all. Then again, maybe I'll be surprised.
  12. I must submit that the New Jersey (my home state) was the longest serving battleship of all time though. (NJ was in Vietnam where the other ships of the class were still mothballed - the 16 inch guns were capable of making instant helicopter landing zones in the the Jungle)
  13. Reminds me, I have not yet watched the last two episodes, maybe I'll get around to that someday - but probably not...
  14. I've seen it, nothing special as far as I can remember. Only thing I really remember was feeling kinda dirty after seeing it...
  15. Well there is some hope for a US release of some kind, SciFi (syfy) channel had a link to the trailer on their website today.
  16. Just saw the Van Gogh episode in the states, probably the weakest episode of the new Who so far other then the very first one (where Rose is introduced, not of this season). The occasional reference to you know who is a nice touch though. And the line about Impressionist Painters and identifiying the photo was funny.
  17. Most likely the only US release of the film will be on DVD. Most things from Japan NEVER get released in the US. Maybe we will get lucky and the Star Blazers crew will dub it (I wouldn't hold my breath though!) Special effects and post processing work will be a large part of this film so I doubt much more of it exists in a presentable form yet.
  18. The no-unsolicited material clause keeps them from getting sued, the fan section does the same thing - so there is NO confusion. It works since the rules on the Fan section clearly state that by sending something there you are giving up all rights to the item. Sending in unsolicited material in the mail does not mean you are giving up all rights to the material - so all companies SAY they will send such things back unopened (there have been enough cases were companies admit they did look at such material by "accident" that I wonder though)
  19. I have seen Hell, and it is filled with Hello Kitty Yamato jewelry. I think the movie looks great! Can't wait to pine for it to be released in the US, knowing that it never will. Then again, I just rented "The War in Space" and I liked it - mind you I'm not saying it was good... Back to yamato, in the clip above, the ship showing up at 1:24 looks a lot like the one that comes out of the Comet Empire after it is destroyed.
  20. Yes - since it takes about an hour of walking around to get back to where you died... (to be fair, MMO games just aren't my thing - so I'm taking some easy shots. I just booted up Knights of the Old Republic and even that I thought was terrible - and it was considered a top tier CRPG when it came out. It was not an MMO but suffers from the same problems of the genre.)
  21. No extra server processing is needed, all it needs to do is send the same information it is sending the now - the client would render it as a dodge rather then just showing the person getting hit. Jedi were not shown in the movies as having an instant heal ability - and bacta tanks were bulky and took time to heal people. The problem is that the MMO community is unwilling to leave the comfort of the DnD trappings - they make things look different (a blaster instead of an arrow or Magic Missile) or give them different names (Jedi Powers instead of healing spells) but in the end the result is the same. If people really want to play Everquest the game is still running somewhere, isn't it?
  22. May he rest in peace. I never quite understood the hatred for Adric, he may have been annoying but far worse was to come (Tegan AND Turlough were FAR FAR FAR worse then Adric ever hoped to be) (I might have spelled Turlough wrong but can't be bothered to look it up - if I insult the character by spelling it wrong then so much the better)
  23. In a word, yes. None - but maybe animating the characters dodging might be nice, or forcing them to use actual tactis like using cover to shoot from would be nice. Having them survive 2 or 3 hits at most would be a lot better then having them take tens or hundreds. I expect games to have some semblence with reality. Maybe I'm just crazy. EDIT - Within the Star Wars universe, which these games are supposed to be trying to recreate, people do not generally take lots and lots of hits without dying, or at least feeling the pain of the hits. Complete agreement.
  24. I have to agree, the Gameplay showed the typical MMO combat going on - people moving slowing or not at all while getting shot multiple times and not showing any effect till they die. Yawn...
  25. I have to disagree as well, I've noticed that the Japanese let the visuals tell the story to a much greater degree then in the US. American Comics (or Graphic Novels which are geared toward an older audience) have much more dialog then a Japanese one would. Same holds true for live action movies.
