  1. The character he played in Stargate Atlantis is not that much of a stretch from the Conan portrayed by Arnold (psyche wise). Besides, my wife thinks this guy is attractive, and so even if the movie stinks I'll be entertained...
  2. Yes, I bought the first one and was intending to get all of them - till I tried to watch it.
  3. Yes - I bought one of those way back when. (brain getting fuzzy, I might not have bought the slipcase version - which is the picture, but I did see it in the store)
  4. Yes - I don't see any connection with it and the new ST movie though. Does it have lense flare?
  5. Call me dense, I don't get the reference. Did the new ST movie have some connection to Yamato getting made? Or am I missing something in the previous posts on this thread?
  6. Nah - fandom and reverence is not a hinderance, the new Dr. Who is proof of that. Incompetance is the problem. The biggest problem in continuing or expanding on an existing franchise is that there is something to compare against (something that was most likely loved the first time around). Most continuations, reboots, etc. bomb - but look at the track record of original stories and it is just as bad. Ooops forgot to mention that I liked Enterprise, but your point is well taken about it being a good example of the problem, I would argue that Voyager was the worst of the lot though, all the preachiness of Star Trek with none of the fun.
  7. I found it enjoyable. Yeah, you know how it will turn out the instant the cast is shown, BUT I didn't mind. The effects are perfect, and the 3D was used to great effect as well. The writing was solid if not inspired, and the acting from everyone was excellent. I don't expect every movie to be shakesperian (yeah, I probably messed up the spelling). I expect a movie to entertain, and this one did that.
  8. Ditto! Even the uniforms look good (Older live action shows from Japan had uniforms that looked terrible)
  9. I don't know about that, but seasons 1-3 are available on DVD from NetFlix.
  10. They did a joke on that in the last episode, I won't spoil the joke for those that might not have seen it. (I got a chuckle out of it)
  11. To continue with this, anything having to do with sand and romance. runner up "I've got a bad felling about this" abosulte worst possible "Space Rangers is being brought back..."
  12. Very informative, thanks for sharing that. It's amazing what the Anime industry in Japan can make for a shoestring budget (shoestring compared to what it would cost in the US)
  13. Just looked at the box office figures for Macross Frontier and Yamato. (this is on ANN, so if they are not good let me know). Frontier is listed as having a total take of under $5 Million. In the US that would be considered a total washout. Yamato is listed as having $1 Million so far (as of last weekend). Does anyone know how much either of these cost to make? Is the take for these two movies representative of the normal take for a movie in Japan? If so, how does the anime industry in Japan survive? (at those figures, a general US release of each movie would be well worth the cost of translation - even a bomb would bring in that kind of money in the US).
  14. I read somewhere that it came in 7th at the box office, no idea if that is good or bad (article said it was bad). And no idea if the article was accurate.
  15. Yes - that bunch of episodes made me wonder if the show had totally lost it. Luckily it finds it's way again soon.
  16. Or that a clips show could be so interesting. (I think that was the clips episode) (and OK, so the clips were not aired previously...)
  17. The swordfight in "Princess Bride"
  18. Nope - as far as I can remember it is just a couple of nobodys (well, they did have bodies) in a bar scene or two. Personally I would be more interested in a nude boomer, but no such look there either.
  19. Same thing for the DVD version of Caprica (which I recommend watching rather then the plan). Pretty standard practice for SciFi, throw in gratuitous nudity on the DVD version that can easily be cut out for the TV version.
  20. The entire American Anime market is still a pathetically small group of people, most likely there are the same number of people that prefer to see Das Boot in German with subtitles as well. (If the market were larger then the Japanese companies making Anime would put more effort into wringing some profit out of us) I'll hazard a guess that the two primary reasons we prefer Subs to Dubs are. 1 - English VAs are not as good as the Japanese VAs (not even close in many cases) 2 - Dubbed shows often got chopped into kiddified versions stripped of their essence. (Clash of the Bionoids anyone?)
  21. The elite groups were the aliens (FBI guy). The Terrorists were the ones trying to expose the aliens. Our aliens must not have a great need for medical treatments (hit by a car, doesn't appear to have happened to the infiltrators for example) or they would have been exposed long before (or they are more infiltrated then shown, enough to cover up an alien in a person suit getting hit by a car for example). Time to stop before I ramble too much.
  22. Also - the show had it's ups and downs, at one point I personally thought it got really bland, but then it got better then ever (or at least as good). Final episode - I thought it was a little silly, but I still liked it too.
  23. The only reason he doesn't is becuase he doesn't pay ANY attention to anything but his singing...
  24. I'd read that the Live Action Akira got canned a couple months back. (or am I missing a joke?)
  25. Fair enough, but what DOES he say that protoculture does now? And why were the Zentradi/Masters so intent on getting back Zor's ship if the protoculture in it was not so useful? Eventually they sent nearly the entire Zentradi fleet to get it back. (unlike Macross where it was just one small portion of the Zentradi) Personally I don't have a problem with them changing continuity - it's the fact that it seems to change willy nilly that is bothersome.
