  1. I have seen Hell, and it is filled with Hello Kitty Yamato jewelry. I think the movie looks great! Can't wait to pine for it to be released in the US, knowing that it never will. Then again, I just rented "The War in Space" and I liked it - mind you I'm not saying it was good... Back to yamato, in the clip above, the ship showing up at 1:24 looks a lot like the one that comes out of the Comet Empire after it is destroyed.
  2. Yes - since it takes about an hour of walking around to get back to where you died... (to be fair, MMO games just aren't my thing - so I'm taking some easy shots. I just booted up Knights of the Old Republic and even that I thought was terrible - and it was considered a top tier CRPG when it came out. It was not an MMO but suffers from the same problems of the genre.)
  3. No extra server processing is needed, all it needs to do is send the same information it is sending the now - the client would render it as a dodge rather then just showing the person getting hit. Jedi were not shown in the movies as having an instant heal ability - and bacta tanks were bulky and took time to heal people. The problem is that the MMO community is unwilling to leave the comfort of the DnD trappings - they make things look different (a blaster instead of an arrow or Magic Missile) or give them different names (Jedi Powers instead of healing spells) but in the end the result is the same. If people really want to play Everquest the game is still running somewhere, isn't it?
  4. May he rest in peace. I never quite understood the hatred for Adric, he may have been annoying but far worse was to come (Tegan AND Turlough were FAR FAR FAR worse then Adric ever hoped to be) (I might have spelled Turlough wrong but can't be bothered to look it up - if I insult the character by spelling it wrong then so much the better)
  5. In a word, yes. None - but maybe animating the characters dodging might be nice, or forcing them to use actual tactis like using cover to shoot from would be nice. Having them survive 2 or 3 hits at most would be a lot better then having them take tens or hundreds. I expect games to have some semblence with reality. Maybe I'm just crazy. EDIT - Within the Star Wars universe, which these games are supposed to be trying to recreate, people do not generally take lots and lots of hits without dying, or at least feeling the pain of the hits. Complete agreement.
  6. I have to agree, the Gameplay showed the typical MMO combat going on - people moving slowing or not at all while getting shot multiple times and not showing any effect till they die. Yawn...
  7. I have to disagree as well, I've noticed that the Japanese let the visuals tell the story to a much greater degree then in the US. American Comics (or Graphic Novels which are geared toward an older audience) have much more dialog then a Japanese one would. Same holds true for live action movies.
  8. Saw some of E3 last night, the Mickey Mouse game actually looks like it might be a winner. Animation fans like us can have fun finding old characters and places from the Disney franchises in the game. (OK - maybe not all of us would care, but I thought it was neat). The paintbrush thing kind of had a "Super Mario: Sunshine" vibe to it though.
  9. There is a lot more dialog in some scenes, there is one scene in particular - when Rick is on the SDF-1 and Claudia comes up to talk with him about Lisa (shortly before the big battle episode) there is a LOT of internal monologe for Rick, for Macross it ends up being a shot with no dialog, just Hikaru staring out into space. Don't got there! I'm serious. Silly arguments about this kind of thing fill up page after page after page over at RT.com.
  10. I'll be the first to admit that early comico comics were terrible, but the later ones were very good (Macross Saga that is, I couldn't be bothered to pick up any others - and that sadly makes me part of a trend) (another caveat - "guest artist" comics were terrible)
  11. Losing the medic would not be a problem. With the communication stones they have access to any kind of expertise they need.
  12. If they use the even more despicable second in command to make the lady that was in command "acceptable" as a full time character next season I'll scream. There is no way either side will let the other side stay on the ship. The Lucien Alliance people will kill our heroes (won't be much of a show so we can count that out), or our heroes will strand the Lucien alliance folks (and thus we have ongoing bad guys to deal with)
  13. In the novels the SDF-3 was the only fold capable ship they had made up till that point, after they got to (whatever the heck the name of the RT masters homeworld was) they started producing other fold capable starships, powered by Protoculture peat moss if I remember correctly. The trip to Pluto was short enough that the time dilation problem with the SDF-1 engine was not noticed. Although in the novels no mention is made of it. With RT continuity (such as it is) lord only knows what actually happened - and it doesn't really matter since the next show to come (if any) will just retcon the whole thing again anyway.
  14. On the five year fold problem and why it does not match the fold "speed" of other vessels, it's been a while since I read the novels but I thought that there was something wrong with the SDF-3 fold system which caused the 5 year span. Normally it would have been a much shorter time.
  15. The only exception to the rule I can think of is if the two are married (which would have to happen before one of them entered the service), or if they are known to be in a relationship as enlisted personell and one of them becomes a mustang (slang for an enlisted person becoming an officer)
  16. Nah - that's just US TV's constant teasing while never consumating a relationship. The idea being that the instant they did the chemistry would be gone. (with notable exceptions of course, and shows since SG-1 have gone off the air have pretty much ignored the rule)
  17. It's one thing to have moral failings, and from a plot and character perspective it can be good
  18. The cliffhanger pretty much stunk. Colonel Young ought to be taken out and shot for gross stupidity. No way in Hades a competent military commander would ever allow things to get so far out of hand. I mean the stupid meter hit about 1000% (and that is not a typo).
  19. I'll probably see it when it comes out on DVD. The Fly was a great movie, if for no other reason then it grossed out my friend. The line about the BrundleFly museum of natural history was a hoot too.
  20. That's the one.
  21. To be fair, Will Wheaton HATED Wesley too. I even saw a clip of him telling Wesley to shut up... Besides, we all know that the MOST hated person from TNG was Tasha Yar (at least till she died and came back)
  22. I'll hijack my own thread, The Star Blazers website has more English info on the Yamato Live Action movie - Most interesting part to me is that Knox/Saito is part of the movie... http://www.starblazers.com/html.php?page_id=465&PHPSESSID=dbd409373f82b2404d61c5d505f3f21c&PHPSESSID=3c55fd3f8a3f4b9247aa24ee4b98cf4f
  23. There was a great Computer Animated short making fun of Max Headroom back when it came out. The computer animated guy was saying that Synthetic parts should go to synthetic actors... It was a Fun show.
  24. July 13th, not terrible, nearly $100 US - OUCH! Hopefully a US version will be out soon (in a year or two that is)
  25. Somewhere I saw that the Yamato movie is coming out on DVD June 4th. Sadly it probably will not have English Subtitles (or be region 1 either). That said, can anyone point me in the right direction on finding it when it comes out? My Japanese Google Foo is weak... Heck I have a PS3, if the Blue-Ray version is watchable here in the US I could get that one. So info on that is helpful too. (I didn't see the old Yamato thread so I started a new one, only existing one was about Pachinko)
