Do you mean the 3D desgin is weird, or are you just not familiar with Macross Plus?  In any case, I agree the design is heavily pixelated, which prints "good enough" in small 1/60 scale.  But any larger scale definitely needs smoothing.

I finally finished! It took me many years to gain the confidence to paint this little thing.

    Xigfrid's 1/60 Isamu Bike and Ghost-9.

That's a lot of years of work champ, I just hope you've enjoyed it.

And since you are so familiar with the VF-9 design and 3D Modeling, I am interested in hearing your review of this VF-9 by Senovis on Cults3D.

I've been chatting with Senovis on Facebook about the VF-9 and showed a bit of my work on the VF-9 as well. He was impressed with mine. His is really good, thinking of the time it took him to put it together, but there are some things that don't really fit kawamoris line art. Some obvious inaccuracies here and there. Like the panel lines are rounded on the edges, due to the modelling style. It happens with his other models too. It isn't as details as mine, and missing landing gears and so, but that is okay. there is very little information on the landing gear of the VF-9. I know how the front landing gear looks like since that Macross Delta episode were we see mirage at jenius air in the VF-9, but I am still in the dark about the back landing gear. I probably have to improvise there. Was thinking of F-16/18 style gear.

Your VF-9 is absolutely gorgeous! Beautiful soft lines.

Thanks a lot! I'm giving it my best. this has been a multi year project now. I mean, I am fiddling on that thing since 2010...

@Thom The VF-1P as a quite different panel lining compared to the normal VF-1. Everything is a bit more "stealth like" and the engine exhausts are more like the ones of a VF-0. The canopy pushes out a bit more as well. Will be interesting to compare to another VF-1 when done.

@GMK Can't wait to see this fully printed and finished. I've been following your progress on it since the start.

  3. Some digital workbench stuff for me as well.

Progress on the VF-9. I wasn't happy with the engines/legs of my VF-9 so decided to delete the old ones and make new ones. I think I am slowly getting there. One by one.

And presenting my side project. Whenever I am fed up with the VF-9, I am working on this. A VF-1P with a GU-11D gunpod. This is heavy early progress. It started out as a testbed for modelling techniques but got a little bit bigger now.

Little bit of a necro post, but this video melted my brain.

Don't know if these are mods, or special part packs, or what, but the fact that he was able to transform, fly around, and fight all in mid-air is astounding.  Only disappointing part is that he didn't have "Information High" playing during the whole thing.

yeah, saw this one as well. Awesome!

Saw that a few of the VF-31 Walkurie versions were restocked last month.

Can anyone confirm that the idol versions of the kits included the original waterslides with the kit?

I still need Arad/Chuck's kits to complete delta squadron. Buying it at msrp for $35 sounds much better than an original kit 2nd hand prices which are above double the cost $$$

Aww man ... hoped to get a hasegawa VF-31C Mirage version. Unfortunately that is discontinued.

I did have the same thinking back when I come from 3Dmax... you can get the basics in a couple days... it's really easy!

That's the issue - getting the basics in a couple of days isn't really "easy". The basics are navigation in the tool, primitives and boolean operations. Took me a whole day, because I am used to 3DS shortcuts. It was confusing as hell.

Anyway - blender, as soon as you can work in it, is a mighty tool.

  8. Blender isn't easy if you are already used to other tools like 3DS MAX, MAYA or Solidworks.

It is really complicated. I tried it once and managed to do some things, but it took me a while.

I think if you never used 3D software before, it is easier to master blender, because you are a clean slate and learn everything from scratch. Knowledge about other tools definately is not helpful.

@MechTech Your armored car looks good so far! It's almost like an SD version of what I imagine most of those would look like. I guess it's the giant turret in proportion to the small car body. The way you machined the missile attachment piece is very impressive. Looks great!

@derex3592 The Titanic is looking good! I don't know how you guys manage all those repetitive little details on big ship builds. That would drive me crazy!

@pengbuzz Thanks for the snippet of history regarding my all time favorite jet, the Tomcat.

@Urashiman Like you, I'm always doing multiple builds at once. It's more time efficient but sometimes it can be a little bit of trouble keeping track of all the parts.

As far as my workbench, just working on an old 1/72 variable Bandai Valk and a Hasegawa black aces Valk in the same scale. Masking canopies is not my fave but, hey, it has to be done!

Yeah ... my first try to go at multiple kits at once. Especially with the same colored mold it is fun hahaha.

I'll just make sure to put the right parts back into the right box.

  10. I felt, that I needed a break from the F-5B. So I started building something I have on my kit pile for years now.

I got that VF-19A when it released the first time almost two decades ago. I also got the photo etched set from jasmine models, which is so awesome. I really like it.

  11. Okay, update on the F5B.

I basically drenched it in Revell putty yesterday and let it dry for ~24 hours.

and today I started to sand away on this like crazy. Uh!

So this is where I am at now.

One side almost done, the other still needs so sandpaper love.

I think I am on a good way here fixing this crappy kit. Lets see how it‘ll turn out.

Hi everyone, I got some more work done over the past couple of weekends. Sorry for photo-bombing you guys with so many photos!

The armored car I'm modifying is based on the French Panhard AML-90 (below). I modernized it a bit. You can see where the over-sized turret comes from.

    35-109.jpg.1f0fb780f10e78fbc36c1556cb9873a5.jpg

Normal people remove screws from their tires and plug the hole. I punched a hole and glued some hanging out! These are what will hold the model to the base. I used silicone RTV to glue them in place.

Here's the completed tires and base with screw heads underneath.

I FINALLY got to put a base coat of paint on my model this weekend. Time for A LOT of weathering and detailing.

    35-116.jpg.bfac29e7f5a72de1883cbf60543fecf8.jpg

Last weekend was spent doing landscaping on the base by adding more sand and more dead plant life. This was BEFORE I drilled the holes for the screws in the base. I also rusted parts from an old artillery carriage frame. I'm thinking of calling this diorama "The Sands of Time" or "Haunt of Jackals", but I'm not sure yet.

    Great work man!
