Earth & The Macross Fleets

Sorry if this has been discussed before.

I was wondering if there is any canon data on where & how many Macross fleets are out on mass migration missions and what is their overall relation to Earth? As I understand it Sheryl was from Macross Galaxy right? A superstar songstress that goes from Macross Fleet to Macross fleet within fold range to perform and whatnot. So just how many of the Mass Macross Emigration Fleets are there out there and what are their ties to earth? Are they all out of range of Earth? Can Earth send help/backup? Do the Macross Fleets have some relation with each other?

I ask because Leon (where we are now in the released epz) keeps stating that the Vajyra (sp?) are out to destroy and eradicate us. That Frontier is humanity last hope etc etc. So I don't understand what he means by that if:

1) Earth & most of the other Macross Fleet aren't aware of the situation.

2) There are tons of Macross Fleets out there spreading humanity across the stars. So that even IF Frontier gets destroyed, humanity will always carry on somewhere. Which was the main purpose for launching The Macross Fleets in the first place right?

Also how are the major Zentradi populations spread throughout the galaxy?

I'd love to know these little details. Just helps me enjoy the show and background story even more. ^_^

Let's answer your questions one by one, ok? :)

So just how many of the Mass Macross Emigration Fleets are there out there and what are their ties to earth? Are they all out of range of Earth?

Well, to give you ideas, Macross 25 is the 55th large-scale, super-long-distance colonization fleet. So there's 54 colonization fleet before Frontier, which 24 of them are New Macross class, and 13 of them are Megaroad class. They usually are self-dependent, and with good reason: with the fold faults, traveling from Earth to another colonization fleet takes way too long the time, although research about fold booster that bypass the faults is being tested by LAI, and used by Micheal to reach Galia 4. No info is given, as far as I recall, if the colonization fleet have constant communication with Earth, although I think they wouldn't do that too often.

As I understand it Sheryl was from Macross Galaxy right?

Yup. :)

Can Earth send help/backup?

According to the latest spoilers,

Earth do send a reinforcement to attack Vajra's homeland in the last episode of Frontier.

Do the Macross Fleets have some relation with each other?

Well, seeing that Galaxy did asked for Frontier's help when their ship is being attacked by Vajra during the early episodes of Frontier, I say yes. :)

I ask because Leon (where we are now in the released epz) keeps stating that the Vajyra (sp?) are out to destroy and eradicate us. That Frontier is humanity last hope etc etc.

I think his speech is directed to the people of Frontier, and the term humanity is more likely referred to the citizens of Frontier. That, and politicians love use big words to emphasis their point, especially someone like Leon. Don't take what his said literally. :p

Also how are the major Zentradi populations spread throughout the galaxy?

Well, there's one example: Macross 5 has strong Zentradi motives, and possibly designed to carry Zentrandi for colonization project.

Macross 7 can communicate with Earth real time probably because of the Hollywood communication-entertainment ship.

It is designed to be one big antenna.

Macross 7 was likely laying communication relays as it goes deeper to the galactic core region.

Macross Frontier it seems is in a much deeper sector of the core regions and does not possess specialization ships like Macross 7.

Other known fleets are Macross 11 and Macross 9.

Macross 11 is exploring I think the rim regions of the galaxy. Due to it's popularity with the planet Zola and space pirates. Macross 11 being mostly english speaking also Lynn Kaifun lives there as manager of Fire Bomber American.

Macross 9 it seems to have problems with the Mafia in it.

Macross 13 well Vindirance hijacked its Battle section to take over Earth.

Though due to the Vajra tracking fold communication it is reasonable to say that Frontier has cut off itself from the rest of the New UN.

Macross Galaxy well we know it is hiding for their own reasons.

Though we do not know if there are survivors of the 33rd NUNS Zentradi Marines when Grace blew up Galia 4.

A planet with a Quamzin clone not communicating with Earth HQ would be of great concern.

NUNS will probably send trouble shooter like the Saratoga II and the VFX Ravens to investigate it.

Or even the Algenicus and the Dancing Skulls.

Ah wow awesome. :)

Thanks for all the answers guys. I love all the nitty gritty details, makes it all feel a bit more realistic ( as much as it can be anyway :) ). Now that I think about it and compare with other sci-fi logic of the same scopre, it makes sense that all fleets would at least try to keep a constant flow of information with each other so as to allow all of humanity to share any development and advances; art, science, galactic threats etc etc.

Again thanks for the answers, keep 'em coming if you've more to add =p

Macross 7 was the 37, considering it was also the 7th New Macross fleet that make 29 fleets between the Megaroad class ships and the New Macross class ships, considering they had 13 ships of the Megaroad that leaves 16 unaccounted main escort ships, It is possible that some fleet didn't had a giant main ship or it could be the 16 ships were fleet escorts SDF class like the Macross and Global.

  • 2 weeks later...
11 looks more like an Island Cluster type, rather than a New Macross type.

Yes but notice it's main colony ship is the same size as City 7.

If we track the evolution of the NMC colonies.

first gen - Macross 1 Shelldome-less

second gen - Macross 7 and Macross 5 (Zentradi variant) Introduction of the Shelldome

third gen - Macross 11 Introduction of fins (solar sails I think) and island clusters

fourth gen - Macross Galaxy Chemical plant type

fifth gen - Macross Frontier Bio plant fleet , Bigger than normal City colonies

Do we know that Galaxy is a fourth gen, or is that just speculation?

What Id like to know is the relationship between UN and New UN. Wasnt the UN Spacey still around in M7? Would that make them two different organizations then?

This is something they really need to explain, imo. It's generally assumed UN Spacy was reformed into NUNS after the attempted coup in VF-X2

Also in M7 besides UN Spacy the military called itself New UN Forces.

Besides the government calls itself New UN Government after Space War 1.

Ugh...please don't start this again; we hashed through it before and it was painful, painful, painful...

Our conclusions then: Everything pre-Frontier is "new U.N. Forces" (統合軍) with a small "n." Frontier has the "New U.N. Forces" (新統合軍) with a big "N."

Relative to the Milky Way

++++++++++++++++

Super Dimension Fortress Megaroad-01 : Spinward, outbound

Super Dimension Fortress Megaroad-02 : Spinward, inbound

Super Dimension Fortress Megaroad-04 : Spinward, inbound

Super Dimension Fortress Megaroad-06 : counterspin

Super Dimension Fortress Megaroad-09 : outbound, counterspin

Super Dimension Fortress Megaroad-13 : counterspin, inbound

NMC Macross-01 : counterspin

NMC Macross-03 : counterspin

NMC Macross-05 : inbound

NMC Macross-07 : inbound

NMC Macross-25 : inbound, spinward

Any idea what fleets the 2 unmarked ones are? (1 spinward, 1 outbound)

I have only seen Frontier in poor resolution...

Do any of the other openings show where the other fleets went?

I would love to make a better overhead view map of the Milky Way showing the fleet paths.... once I finish DLing the HD episodes.

I hate to say it after you did all that work, but...the starmap is symbolic, not an accurate indicator of flightpaths...

While not an accurate indicator of flight paths, it does, along with a few shots I saw in early episodes, provide general directions relative to galactic core....

You couldn't use it to guess what star they were near, but you could probably be safe in saying that it went towards 3oclock, or 7oclock, etc...

Besides, spinward/counterspin and in/outbound are VERY general, not a lot of wrk.

No.

Refer to Macross Chronicle Worldguide 13a. There are only 4 classes of Super Long Range Emmigration Ship shown:

Macross Class

Megaroad Class

New Macross Class

Island Cluster Class

These are published facts, BTW.

True, but the same page also says that Megaroad is the first class of Long Range Emigration Ships, and that the Island CLuster type is the Fifth. That leaves two types unaccounted for. So it's quite possible that Galaxy is one of them...or they could simply be things we haven't seen yet (and may never see).

Nope.

Island Cluster type - 5th generation of giant immigration fleet (第5世代型巨大移民船団)

and in the smaller text next to a picture from FB2012 - Megaroad Class - first super long range emmigration Fleet (第一次移民船団)

Therefore, the article says that's there's been 5 generations of giant emmigration fleet , but doesn't say that there's been 5 different classes of long range emmigration ships. As the title of that section of the article is "Kinds of Super Long Range Emmigration Ship and Fleet Composition" (超長距離移民船の種類と船団構成) we know that the article isn't about the generations of giant emmigration fleet. I expect further articles to clarify, and I won't be surprised if the Macross Galaxy type of fleet is included in such an article.

Nevertheless, the point of my post (#19) was to clarify to Redwolf the source of my information, and put an end to that wild speculation.

So it all boils down to the capitalization of the letter "n"? <_<

I've always taken it as their way of avoiding any legalities tied to SDF Macross. Story-wise though, it'd be nice to see why the transition was made. I haven't had a chance to play through VF-X2...since it never came to the States. <_< I guess I could search online for a synopsis of the story found in VF-X2....

Not sure if anyone noticed, but if you go through the colony expansion in slow-mo, you can see that Megaroad-04 (SDF005) is the colony that founded Eden. Date looks like 2013. Then it looks like 10 ships/colonies spidered out from there.

Is that new info? The date that Eden was colonized?

Not really. It actually comes down to 統合軍 (Tougougun, "Unity Forces") vs. 新統合軍 (Shin-Tougougun, "New Unity Forces"). It's just that in, for example, "Macross: A Future Chronicle," the deep-voiced English-speaking guy says "2010: Creation of new Unity Government." But "new" there is a description, not part of the actual name of the government.

I really don't think it's their way of avoiding SDFM...considering that there's a VF-1A on top of the high school, there's the WTF-1, which is a dead ringer for the SDF-1 and is named after the SDF-1's captain...the old U.N. Spacy kite shows up not only on the VF-1A but also all through "Legend of Zero," and we have a picture of Minmay show up. If they were trying to avoid any visual references to the original show, they did a rather poor job of it.

Besides, if they wanted to market in in the western world free of all ties to anything Macross, they didn't need to change it to NUNS. If nervous western companies can give Son Goku digital underpants and turn Gundam Seed handguns into laser pistols, they could erase the Macross kite with ease.

it never crossed my mind that SK was trying to avoid SDFM at all.

as for the removal of Macross kits and other editing, didn't H.Crap boast about the expensive machine they used to remove the extra moon in Southern Cross? They can use it again  .... IF they can get the license. (FAT CHANCE)

Keep in mind BigWest owns all the materials that went into SDFM, they just don't own the international rights to the animation itself according to the Japanese courts. Which seems to be why they tend to use DYRL images in subsequent productions.

I don't think the two "Einsteins" in the Macross 11 shot are them at all; rather, I think they're the Stargazer type ships we see in the screencaps lower down, flying away from us. The scaling might be off, but they are not the single diamond shaped blocks we know the Einstein class to be. If not Stargaze/Bolongese, they could be some other small ship.
