The Chronicles of Riddick

Recommended Posts

I got nothing against Vin Diesel per se, but I'm suprised how many of you are claiming to have liked Pitch Black.  Pitch Black is definately in my list of top 10 dumbest movies of all time.  Which is why, even though the previews for Chronicles of Riddick look decent, I won't dare see it in the theater.

Then again, Oihan, I thought Van Helsing was fine  Not spectacular, but mindlessly entertaining.  Meanwhile, I thought Terminator 3 was a mockery of a film that ignored... nay, spit on... the message in the first two Terminators... thus earning another spot on my top 10 dumbest movies ever list.

Pitch Black and T3 are on your top 10 dumbest movies of all time? Are you from the Bizzaro World? LoL

I guess... if Bizarro World is a place where story and substance matter more than cheesy special effects and mindless violence. :D

If it gives you a better idea of my tastes, movies that make my top 10 best movies list include The Ring, The Last Samurai, Fight Club, Swordfish, and Spider-Man. Movies that I've been known to enjoy, but wouldn't considered top 10 anything, include Mr. Deeds, Happy Gilmore, Robocop, Galaxy Quest, True Lies, Pirates of the Carribean, Transformers: the Movie, and the like. Oh, and anything with Jet Li. Finally, as opposed to Chronicles of Riddick, the next two movies I'm looking forward to are The Village and Spider-Man 2.

Y'know... one could very easily question the substance and story of Mr. Deeds, Swordfish, and alot of others on your list... but to each their own.

But I don't think I'd put any of the films either of you guys mentioned in the 10 dumbest films of all time category. That's reserved for serious, serious poo like Ishtar or Rhinestone.

I saw Pitch Black in theaters and I was surprised as to how decent it came out. I'm neutral about Vin Diesel but if the main honchos from the original PB are heading this up, then I'm probably willing to give the new production a chance.

Halle Berry's b00bz go a long way to making a movie great...

Sitting through a 2 hour movie just to see a good pair of tits is a lousy investment of time. I'll stick to Arnold movies and porn.

I know about Arnold's movies, but didn't know he did porn. I don't think I wanna see him any more naked than I'm forced to in the Terminator movies.icon8.gif

Uh... I was talking about 2 separate things. Arnold movies, like Predator... And porn like porn.

This Wednesday, I'll be attending an advanced screening of The Chronicles of Riddick. However, seeing that it received a PG-13, it may not be as good as it should be.

Apparently, I wasn't able to watch it last week due to various reasons, but hopefully, I'll watch it this weekend.

I'm currently in Manila and this movie hasn't premiered here yet. How did it do in the box office?

Weekend box office:

1 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban $35,000,000

2 The Chronicles of Riddick $24,600,000

3 Shrek 2 $24,000,000

4 The Stepford Wives $22,200,000

5 Garfield $21,600,000

I suppose it could have done a lot better if there hadn't been two other big movies opening the same weekend. There was a lot of money being spent at the movies last weekend, but it was split so many ways that I don't know if COR will be considered a success. Right now, i wouldn't hold my breath for a sequel.

Chronicles of Riddick was meh. It wasn't the worst movie I'd seen, but it wasn't the greatest either. It felt like they tried to cram too much into a 2-hour movie. The pacing just seemed really rushed.

For some reason the movie felt like a watered down version of the Dune movie to me. And the ending reminded me of a Schwarzenegger film, but I won't say which one to avoid spoilage.

I went and saw it. Its pretty good. Not mindblowing but a good sci-fi romp. Leaves it wide open for a part 3....

Huh?

What was part 1?

um... where do you live.. in a cave?

A pitch black cave?

:p

Quiet down n00b!

Just went to see Chronicles of Riddick last night--must say, I was disappointed a bit. It was okay, but I wouldn't spend $6-8 for it, in retrospect. Catch a matinee or wait for video, I'd say. I just think it didn't live up to it's potential as a continuation of the tale of Riddick. There was loads of potential for fleshing out a great story here, but it was done a little to "wham bam, let's get to the next fight scene" for me...Pitch Black was definitely better, in regards to the development of Riddick as a character...

This movie was about what I was expecting, but as a time-killer it sufficed. Certain things, like the aesthetic style of the flick kicked ass, but the dialogue blew and the story needed a little more development, an R rating would have improved this flick as the lack of brutality and gore did not quite match up to the smack talk and posturing of most of the characters. In particular I would have liked to see the firey-dog-beasts, maul a few convicts. If I were to make a drinking game out of this movie the rule would be to drink every time Riddick peels off those supercool goggles for dramatic effect, ...and I would be crap-ball hammered by the end of it!!! The most Riddick-ulous part to me was the Tardiscopes (those retard-on-a-leash-with-magnifying-glasses-strapped-to-their-head dudes) which provided inadvertant comic relief that wasn't really needed to begin with. I wanted to love this movie because Pitch Black kicked SO MUCH ass, but was left with a meh feeling.

It was still better than Swordfish though, that movie blew a gaggle of gay geese.

Jesus... I am clueless. This whole time you guys were talking about Pitch Black I had no clue it was a part one to this movie. I just dismissed it as some Sci-Fi movie I'd never seen.

Just saw this movie too. Totally agreed with Warrhead. Loved the style but the dialogue was a little blah. It was refreshing though to see a movie that was "different" from all the other rehashed crap out there. The movie also reminded me of dune.

I'd say a rental movie for sure. Might even buy it just because I like the Riddick saga.

I just got back from seeing it, and I liked it alot. Not quite the survival/horror of Pitch Black, but a very good film none the less.

SPOILER

The ending seemed kinda abrupt, tho, when the commander, who was all riled up to off the big bad guy, just kneeled to Riddick.

END SPOILER

BTW, I think Riddick is a great anti-hero character.

space for spoiler. stop reading. things will only go poorly for you if you don't stop.

so angry commander guy kneels because of that maxim they keep keep saying:

You keep what you kill.
