Is this a transformable toy? It looks like the main cannon booms are removable, but it seems to be a better quality toy than either the crappy mini transformable SDF-1 (often found as a bootleg or as a Mark/Select Convertor) or the 1/6300 non-transformable.

Referred to at http://www.anime.net/macross/production/mo...united_nations/ as

1/5700 Macross Block-System Trans-Formation

Die-cast toy

Takatoku

1983

Has anyone ever seen this toy in person?

It definitely has the nicest sculpt when you compare it to all those old Matchbox SDF-1's. I love the amount of diecast on this little sucker, I sure hope Yamato plans on releasing this in the future. B))

The Takatoku transforming SDF-1, which later was made by Bandai and released by Matchbox, is 1/3000. I think that's the "Big Macross" (i.e., it's a typo in the Compendium).

Here's the one that got turned into a convertor: http://www.toyboxdx.com/data/takatoku2/ima...enkeisdfbox.jpg

And this is another one, I'm guessing it has more diecast and is nontransformable: http://www.toyboxdx.com/data/takatoku2/ima...crosssdfbox.jpg

Maybe it's the "Z Macross" referred to in the Compendium (Z for zinc?).

To me, the most important thing for a SDF-1 Macross toy is that the arms swivel and bend at the "elbow." As far as I know, only the large Matchbox/Takatoku Macross does that. Are there others?

If the elbows don't bend, it just doesn't look right to me.

I use to have the item some tiem back.

It is actually completely plastic, no diecast at all

and the scale is 1/5700 if I did not remember wrongly. The quaility of the plastic is quite bad. As for the scrupt, it does look better than the Bandai.

And I think its actually a bootleg

However, in order to transsform, you have to remove certain parts.

Ie no perfect tranformation compared to the bandai.

I have this item but can only recommend it for those who need to have every Macross item. The large Matchbox/Takatoku SDF-1 is far better.

This one is nicer than the small non-transformable Macross, but IIRC it contains no diecast at all. It is barely movable and must be transformed by completely disassembling and reassembling. It has a few parts and you can build some weird combinations. The plastic is ok but looks cheap because of the metallizing. IIRC the ellbows don't swivel. It's not as large as the Matchbox/Takatoku one, but it's not too small either. IMHO it's not worth more than $20.
