Duke Togo Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Somehow, GRRM will find a way to have himself further distracted by this. Quote
Tking22 Posted May 23 Posted May 23 How is this going to work exactly? Especially in a giant open world, open ended game like Elden Ring? Most people play From games for the gameplay, the story is nearly non existent in game unless you go out of your way to lore dive. I can safely say having played every From game, I have no idea what is happening in any one of them, the story isn't presented in a traditional manner at all, I watch every cut scene, talk to every character, and still have zero idea where I am, who I am, what's happening, who the bad guy is, it's mostly just nonsense and fun gameplay. Having no story means they can’t screw up the story. I’m sure it may actually work for the oddballs at A24. Most of their movies don’t seem to have a story and by the end of their movies, you’ll often ask “What the heck just happened?” Just gotta hope it’s not one of their movies where you have to ask “Why did I watch this?” I still remember watching the Green Knoght in the theater. My lady hated it, while I enjoyed it and a large part of the theater room emptied by the halfway point. One of the few movies I went to see with a large amount of walkouts Quote
JB0 Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Screw this, they should make a movie out of Metal Wolf Chaos instead. Quote

Seto Kaiba Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Just cast Jack Black as Let Me Solo Her and make the whole thing a comedy. It'll save a lot of trouble in the long run. Quote

Adapting a popular property with an extremely vague or borderline non-existent story just means the probability that the film's story will be harshly criticized by the game's fans for "getting it wrong" is almost 100%. But they will probably still show up for the film more than likely in just enough numbers to get a profit. The budget will probably also be fairly low in comparison to other studios and even though I feel that they are kinda 50/50 on their good to bad ratio, A24 has built up a sorta fandom all of its own and more than likely will make up the majority of the ticket sales. It may not be as big a thing as Minecraft or Super Mario, but it probably won’t need to be Quote

That too was an adaptation of a popular video game with a barely-there plot beloved for its visual aesthetic and gameplay in the hands of a respected production company with a somewhat uneven track record and an average (for an action movie) budget of about $113M. It should have been able to break even and turn a profit without breaking a sweat as long as it didn't lose the fans. A couple questionable creative decisions and dubious casting choices later... and the studio found itself $80M in the red as the not-so-proud owner of the third biggest box office bomb of 2024. Quote

I don’t know who put out the borderlands movie, but there’s a big fandom for A24 that I don’t think I’ve ever seen for other studios other than maybe Troma, although the Troma fandom is much smaller. Personally, I think they’re about 50/50, but I know others that believe they can do no wrong and get excited just to see their logo pop up for anything. That coupled with a low budget usually makes for lower risk in the long run. Quote
