Duke Togo
John Williams for best soundtrack? Really? I found it to be underwhelming and unequal to his past work.

Dynaman
didn't watch enough movies to fill this out Me neither but since I just saw Pan and the latest Mad Max movie I will gladly nominate them for worst movies in whatever categories they can be slotted into. Best Action Movie is Star Wars, even with my reservations about the bad guys being a bit too cookie cutter it ended up being what a Star Wars movie should be. Best Movie of the year - In the Heart of the Sea (Like I said I have not seen many but it is refreshing to have a story that does not involve super heroes beating each other up for two hours)
Duke Togo
Totally doing my own format here, because that's how I roll. Favorite film of 2015: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - I love this film and this franchise too much to be able to objectively rank it among the best of 2015, so it gets its own category. Top 5 Films of 2015*: 1. Mad Max: Fury Road 2. The Martian 3. Ex Machina 4. Sicario 5. Spotlight *The Revenant and Carol are in limited release and nowhere near me right now, so this list may change once I see them both. Most Surprising Film of 2015: Creed - I really, really wanted this film in my top 5. Like The Force Awakens, it's not perfect, but it's so wonderful and expertly directed. Most Disappointing Film of 2015: The Hateful Eight - It's gorgeously shot, but that's about all it has going for it. It has serious narrative problems that lead to some very poor directorial decisions. Worst Film of 2015: American Ultra - Saving the worst for last. I bailed on this film barely a half hour into it. I'm sure there were worse movies out there, but this was as low as I could stomach seeing. Edited December 27, 2015 by Duke Togo

In any case, I agree with you on Mad Max; I just couldn't get behind it...

I agree with you guys, maybe we're all getting old here because to me 2015 was such a poor year movie-wise, although I haven't seen SW or the hateful 8 yet I doubt it will change my mind that this year's been full of soulless commercial flickers. The Martian and Ex Machina were both ridiculously overblown while Kingman and Mad Max were enjoyable but ultimately very forgettable. I really can't think of a single great movie from this year which is kind of sad

Dynaman
What do you consider to be a great movie? I'll answer for me with a list from years past. Star Wars and Empire Strikes back. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Saving Private Ryan. Gone With the Wind (even though it is before my time I can easily see why it is one of the greats, it transcends the time it was made) Aliens Superman (the original only) Star Trek II Letters from Iwo Jima. The Green Mile. To get things back on track "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" is my vote for best spy movie. But I've not seen Spectre yet. The advertisement for "Spy" is my vote for worst... TangledThorns
John Williams for best soundtrack? Really? I found it to be underwhelming and unequal to his past work. I'm just here to agree with you. Williams phoned this one in.
Graham
I only go to the cinema to watch movies that I know I'm going to enjoy. I don't have enough time, money or desire to go watch crap at the cinema. The top movies I enjoyed this year, in order are: 1) Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Seeing it for a 3rd time tonight). 2) Mad Max: Fury Road. 3) Sicario. 4) The Martian. 5) Ant Man. 6) Kingsmen: The Secret Service. myk
There were MAYBE three movies that at the very least didn't annoy me completely, and at best I found memorable and worthy of mention: Creed, MI5, and Ex Machina. I resent the idea that if I don't nut all over myself for movies like Episode 7, Mad Max and Spectre that I'm somehow a damaged adult, incapable of making sound decisions; most of the stuff I was exposed to or heard about this year evoked nothing from me. This isn't to say that I think my opinions or anyone else's should be taken as gospel; it's just an opinion...

Frogze
What do you consider to be a great movie? It's very subjective obviously and does change from one person to another. To me a great movie would be an experience that stays in the back of my mind long after I left the theatre. I keep thinking of a great movie because it's filled with great shots that actually have a meaning, that are moving, thrilling, disturbing, etc. I didn't get any of that this year. But all's not lost yet I guess, I'll give Sicario a shot.
