3D-Brainx Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Hello all, I'm starting a new thread to keep think apart and have a proper thread title. I'll post here the progress on the Destroid Tomahawk. Modeling is about half way done. I'll provably take a break before texturing to finish the YF-21, bur, here's what I have so far.
Mr March Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 This looks like more fantastic work. Can't wait to see more. If you need any line art reference, I'm your man. Just let me know
latheboy Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Well done, this is awesome... Mr March, I would take you up on the line art if you're offering
Mr March Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Sure. This is almost everything I have. There's one other piece from one of the "This Is Animation Special" series, but I don't seem to have a scan of it.
latheboy Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Rad, I got excited about 3D-B drawing this so I started one as well.. this will help thanks.. Not gonna show anyone though, still pretty rough compared to above.. What do you guys do with the Cad models?
3D-Brainx Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 Hello Guys, Thanks for the comments and thanks Mr. March for the images. Here's this weekend progress
3D-Brainx Posted September 14, 2014 Author Posted September 14, 2014 Hello Guys! Thanks for the comments. I'm almost done modeling, but I'm having a hard time with the head. The reference is not 100% accurate, or at least it doesn't look like it does. So I'm kind of guessing a little. I'll upload some images soon.
3D-Brainx Posted September 18, 2014 Author Posted September 18, 2014 Hello Guys! I'm done modeling. I might add some more details as I start with materials and textures, but the basics are done.
Mr March Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Nicely done. Proportions and detail looks spot on.
3D-Brainx Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 Hello! Thanks for the comments! The only part I modified was the head. It's in between the blueprints and Yamato's toy. So, question to you guys. Which color scheme you like the most? I used to think the green one, but now that I'm testing materials, I'm not so sure.
Mr March Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I didn't even know there was a green one. I figured the tan/sand one that was the default was the most widely known. But you should definitely think creatively and build some totally new ones
Zinjo Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) The green one is seen in the background in the series and vintage box art has it in green. I suspect the green is to display the Army variant. Edited September 25, 2014 by Zinjo
3D-Brainx Posted September 25, 2014 Author Posted September 25, 2014 Yamato made both in 1/60 scale. They called them Tan and Olive green. As I said, looking at they toys I like more the green one, I think there is more contrast between the colors. But after testing materials in 3D I'm not so sure. I guess I can do both, it would be just changing the base color.
Mr March Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Anyone know in which episode the green Tomahawk appears?
Zinjo Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Anyone know in which episode the green Tomahawk appears? It was in the one between 1 and 36...
EXO Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 They didn't appear in the anime. It's just a color variant that Yamato released to double dip on the mold. It's possible that Yamato got the schemes from some Takani art.

spanner Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Hello Guys! I'm done modeling. I might add some more details as I start with materials and textures, but the basics are done. 3D-Brainx Posted October 2, 2014 Author Posted October 2, 2014 Hello, Guys! I´m at the studio now, but I have an image of the green Tomahawk, not sure from which book it is though. I'll upload it once home. As for thr progress, I'm testing materials, this is what I have so far. I'll like to play a little more with a few things. I'll add some more decals and test some more materials. There is a symbol inside that yellow triangle at the front of the cannon, but I can´t make out what it is from the art I have. If some knows or has an image, please let me know. @Milkautico: No lo tengo en la lista de los "nunca". Pero ya sabes, si viene, va a ser despues varios otros.
MMORefugee Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 What I have just shows the markings as "L" or "R" on their respective sides. I guess destroid pilots and ground crew have trouble telling left from right.

I guess destroid pilots and ground crew have trouble telling left from right. Thanks a lot! I was looking for something like that! Anyone knows what the D-M-P stands for on the first 3 decals?
MMORefugee Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 I'm making a wild guess here: The ship to which the destroid is assigned. Daedalus, Macross, or Prometheus.
3D-Brainx Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 Hello guys! Just a quick update on this. Finished the left arm.
Mr March Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I really hate models that depict weathering and wear on the corners and edges of the mecha; it looks too realistic and detailed. I also hate the subdued colors and accurate lighting effects; it makes me think this mecha is a real robot. I think you're really going in the wrong direction with this model. I hate renders that look too good.
Mommar Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Please tell me you have plans to do the rest of the Destroids as well???
