In all seriousness, I'm honestly with you on all that.  It's why I've resolved not to just buy one online.  If I happen to see it in a store, then I can say I bought it on a whim, but buying online feels too intentional.

I never took issue with the original Hot Rod's coloring, but then, I'm not stuck on the toon-centric thinking that many fans embrace. The OG toy is good enough for me.

I was finally able to track down a MTMTE Perceptor for a good price and it arrived today.  I'm glad I held off for this version.  True to form, though, for Hasbro, I had to clean up some gray paint on his head and left eye... looked like Perceptor just woke up with eye booger.  I also wish his legs were a tad bit longer.

G1 Perceptor was one of only four TF toys I had as a kid and nearly 40 years later, I have a Perceptor toy again.  Thinking back, I believe my folks got me that G1 Perceptor thinking I would play with it more as a microscope...

I have the first release Hot Rod and the 5 Pack sealed somewhere in my storage so I'm glad Hot Rod and Hound were released again.

I'm happy with the recolor Hot Rod.

Finally got to open this Beast.  I had out my original one too. I still prefer the original.

Saw Big Convoy at my local Wally awhile back but I left it. I like BW and all, and while a Prime that turns into a mammoth should appeal, having had seen a review, it just wasn't grabbing me. Hope it brings more joy and fulfillment to you than it would've to me.

I do not collect Transformers much anymore. I always liked the character of Big convoy.  He is so small compared to the original.

The size of the new version doesn't bother me too much; I have zero available display space as it is.  I'm just a little put off by the sculpt of the new version's alt mode - specifically the trunk.  Maybe I'll warm up to it if I see it on the shelf somewhere.

I photoshoped the torso. I think the purple is really screwing up the squarish shape he's supposed to have. Curious, if some of you guys who swore off it would consider it if it looked more like this.

I had it POed, but canxed it after watching PvP's in-hand review. I was already set to pass on it and only POed it out of FOMO, the fear part being that this may be the last G1 Astrotrain we get for a long time as Hasbro moves on to other corners of the TF Universe to mine toy ideas. The G1 Astrotrain toy is the only official version I own. I passed on all the rest b/c none came close to what I wanted in a modern toy. I have the Fans Toys version, which is, IMHO, the best version of him out there in any scale, just a remarkable figure. Second place goes to Mech Fans Toys' Iron Sky, which at legends scale, also did a remarkable job of capturing and modernizing the OG toy with some toon likeness thrown in, a really good amalgamation of the two that's satisfying and good-looking in all three modes, a difficult task for triple changers. That this toy exists and did it so well (I own a KO of it) and could have served as an excellent blueprint for Takara to design from without fear of legal retribution, it's a shame they created this thing instead, which just sings of egregious compromise. TBF, though, SS86 Astrotrain's train mode looks alright, damn the other two modes. I tend to think along the lines of many other fans in that they should have just done an extensive retool on the Siege figure to address the shortcomings of its terrible train and shuttle modes. Siege Astrotrain's bot mode already looked great, and significant improvements to the alts would have been an upgrade worthy of purchase, IMHO. Anyway, I figure my cancellation is $60 saved with the hopes and many crossed digits that some third party will eventually release a CHUGL scaled figure that's a vast improvement over the lackluster SS86 figure.

Sorry, no amount of red paint on the abdomen is going to fix what ails this figure- it's just proportionally wrong with the leg kibble poorly engineered and unappealingly obvious on the legs. The chest, even properly transformed, doesn't look good or correct to either his toy or toon likenesses, the arms are too thin and he appears lanky rather than stocky. The Siege toy cuts a far more fitting look in bot mode; it's a shame that his alts fell so short with too many compromises.

I took notice th at Takara is now doing the gift box set for G2 Stunticons and man, that's frustrating. We're 2 characters short of finishing the series and it's been what? well over 2 years now? Rather inexcusable time table in my opinion, I get they wanna get other stuff out there but it doesn't take much when you already got a mold and just need to alter color tones, it's just BS to me. It's also feeling like a waste of money and that I may be better off just trying to order this gift set....with any luck it'll be a superior quality over some of the flubs that Hasbro has been making with their releases and the QC issues that continuously pop up on their new releases. It's really making me fall out of love with transformer collecting big time.
