Paramount's out. Disney will distribute both the Avengers & Ir

Paramount Pictures and Disney have reached an agreement where Disney would gain the worldwide distribution rights to Iron Man 3 and the higly anticipated Avengers film. Disney (who owns Marvel Comics) paid $115 million dollars to bring those and future Marvel Films properties back into the Disney fold. Paramount will continue to distribute Thor and First Avenger: Captain America films before turning it over to Disney. Disney has already announce plans for a revival of The Incredible Hulk series for ABC television (also owned by Uncle Walt's company) and fan favorites Cloak & Dagger for ABC Family. Could this mean a shared universe for both television and movies. Disney has also announced May 3rd 2013 as the release date for Iron Man 3. It's strongly hinted that the Mandarin will be the villain for IM3.

Maybe, given the amount of stuff going on in the filmworlds of both DC and Marvel, they should have their own film threads or a combined comic film news thread? News like this today is very interesting, but it might be a good idea to have it all in the one place.

Just an idea.

So, Lou Ferrigno could conceivably don the green paint again, eh? Okay, I keed! I keed! At 59-60ish, that's not likely. But recent pics of him at comic conventions show him to still be in pretty dog-gone good shape. Wow--so he would have only been like, 20 or 21? when he first began winning Mr. Universe titles.

Favreau has always indicated he wants to keep the film version of the Mandarin within the style and feel established for the IM movies: "The problem with the Mandarin is that the way it's depicted in the comic books, you don't want to see that. He has 10 magical rings — that just doesn't feel right for our [franchise]. So it's either tech-based, or the rings are not really rings."

Actually, the Mandarin's rings aren't magical... they're alien technology. But, same diff movie-wise.

If they go with the "alien tech" route with the Mandarin, then it could work. Cuz in the 1st film, Tony had the advanced tech. The 2nd film had someone else matching his tech. The 3rd film can have someone with technology beyond the Iron Man technology.

Word on the street is Disney wants all their Marvel properties back under their Marvel Entertainment banner. Three properties are at Fox (X-Men, Daredevil, & Fantastic Four) and one at Sony (Spiderman). Their lawyers are exploring loopholes but these contracts were signed in perpetuity so that means forever. Disney has a strong interest in getting control of the Fantastic Four because the whole "First Family" fits their mold. Rumor has it Fox and Sony has zero interest in giving up rights; Fox is even willing to film a low budget direct to DVD film and put it in theaters to avoid giving the rights to Disney.

I think it would be interesting if the writers did something hearkening back to Stane's line from the first film about them having problems with technology in "that part of the world". IM2 had Tony's own tech being tossed back at him, so for IM3 it could be cool to see something developed along a completely different paradigm... something that takes Tony completely by surprise and he can't figure it out. Not alien or magic, just something totally out of sync with his approach. Dunno what that might be, mind you.

Just as long as no one convinces Favreau to ditch his plans and do something magical now that Thor is in the same continuity (and I still don't know how well that's going to fit into the thus far essentially science fiction Marvel movie universe).

This would be cool, Tony back to basics, become better faster stronger, love it!
