Its not very complex as long you got the hash of the file that you wanted it, and if the seeder is big enough its quite fast. Its been a while since I used Winny, I might try it tonight. Well...personally, I can't use it because it's Windows-only...but anyway, there's a newer version. called Perfect Dark. Anyway, if no one can get the download, it's not really a big deal...I'll be ordering the books used soon, but AmaZon.co.jp won't ship them outside of Japan, so I've got to send them to one of my friends, and then she'll send them to me... By the way...the Spanish MacF "Liner Notes" that Magnuskn translated mention a Macross short story in the Studio Nue Entertainment Bible, but neglects to mention whether it's in Volume One or Two...does anyone know? I~III Dreaming Prelude: My Fair Minmay Misa Hayase: White Reminiscences (TheLoneWolf has sent me scans of this, but hey...the novel was only a buck. I couldn't resist.) DYRL. That sould be enough to keep me occupied for QUITE a while. I'm hoping that the fact that the TV series novelizations have furigana, and that My Fair Minmay is in script format, will mean that they'll be relatively easy. I'm still unsure about whether or not to translate the TV novelization trilogy, but "Dreaming Prelude: My Fair Minmay" looks like it shouldn't be impossible. "Misa Hayase: White Reminiscences," of course, I've already started on. The DYRL novelization is long and dense, but flipping through it, a few things caught my eye that made me want to read more...namely, the Macross executing a Daedalus Attack (in DYRL???) and Hikaru and Misa wandering around on the ruined planet that they still don't know is earth, only to see the destroyed, rusting hulk of...the ARMD-05. Guess it's because I can't read Japanese? *shrug* I saw Dreaming Prelude quite a lot in the '80s, but I never bought it...too much Japanese text, too few pictures. They're all like that; so yes, they're prose novels. I found them used on amazon.co.jp, and had them shipped to a friend in Japan, and she sent them on to me. Thankfully, they're quite cheap, about Two- or three-hundred yen each. There were some that were only one yen, but I decided that a little bit higher-priced was probably better. So here's the break-down: Dreaming Prelude: My Fair Minmay: contains five short stories (in audio script format, meaning its what the voice actors would have gotten if they had been animated), each by a different member of the writing staff, covering the time from Minmay's birthday to her rise to fame. Misa Hayase: White Reminiscnces: this appears to be about Misa meeting Riber, but I'm not sure yet. I've already translated the first few pages, which are about Misa having an awkward dinner with her father on her twentieth birthday, which turns out to be a dream. Macross TV Version Trilogy: exactly what it sounds like. The three-volume novelization of the TV series. Book I covers episodes one through five, Book II covers episodes six through twelve, and Volume III covers episodes thirteen through twenty-seven (which seems like too much for a mere 250 pages). Interestingly (to me, at least), when I was in hgih school I tried to write my own novelization of SDFM (it was going to be three books, harmonizing SDFM and DYRL), and the prologue (which is all I ever finished) had a five-year-old Minmay playing in a sandbox, building a sand castle with one of her friends, when she sees the Macross in the sky. Well, the official novelization (which I didn't know even existed until a year-and-a-half ago) begins with Minmay in 2009, serving some visitors at Nyan Nyan, and then flashes back to five-year-old Minmay...playing in a sandbox...building a sand castle...and seeing the Macross in the sky. The friend isn't there, but other than that, it's almost exactly the same as my version. Weird. By the way, these books are the only ones NOT written by someone who wrote for the TV show itself. Macross - Do You Remember Love?: The official novelization of the movie. I haven't started reading it at all yet, but glancing through it, I have noticed some differences from the movie, as detailed in a previous post. It's also a bit longer than the other books, and appears to be much denser. As far as translations go, I'm coming to the realization that I can't hold them to the same timetable as the video releases...these are full novels, sparsely illustrated, and take a lot of time. I'm hoping to have "Dreaming Prelude" finished in time for Minmay's birthday (October 10) and White Reminiscences for Misa's (March Third...I think). The TV series books don't seem like they'll be much of a problem, but DYRL...that thing is big. It won't be soon. EDIT: Oh, and as for what the TV novelizations look like: You may notice that the covers are a triptych, and make one big picture. (These, by the way, are the 1992 reissue covers...it looks like the original 1983 versions have different pictures.) That weirds me out, too...I mean, Macross has been relatively well-known in the English-speaking world for quite a long time now...and the internet has been around for a long time, too. I'm supposed to believe that NOT A SINGLE PERSON has ever (for example) completed a translation of Miss DJ until I undertook the task last year...? I don't buy it. I can't have been the first person to decide to render this material in English...and yet, for the life of me, I can't find existing translations anywhere. Nor has anyone posted saying something like, "Oh yeah, some guy did a couple of the drama albums back in the Usenet days." That said, there have been a few members here who have READ the material, much as I read Area 88 a few years ago. In a way, my lack of fluency in Japanese in everyone else's gain...if I could just sit down and read the books quickly, without having to stop and look up every other word, attempting a translation might seem like too much work. Never mind...I just got them today. I was working off of this from magnuskn's translation of Shaloom's "liner notes" for Frontier episode 11: - The scene with Ranka and her cookies seeing the fold in the distance makes reference to a short story. It is in the collection of shorts "Studio Nue Entertainment Bible", called "Today I wanted to give you...." In it, Minmay wanted to give Hikaru an autographed record of hers, for his birthday, but Hikaru has to escort Misa back to earth and can´t go on the date with Minmay. He sends Max Jenius in his stead. However, having searched through both volumes of the "Studio Nue Machanic Design Entertainment Bibles," there appears to be no such story in either volume. MAN! I want a Chocolate Parfait Monster!!! (And yes, it's chocolate parfait, shaped like a Destroid Monster. The front gun barrels are replaced by four sticks of Pocky.) The thing is, both MDE bombs will mess your world up pretty badly, while only one Choco Parfait Monster is dangerous... Very nearly done with the Ohnogi story now...I hope to finish it off tonight or tomorrow. Then on to Tomita's story, about the Miss Macross Contest itself. Thankfully, it seems to overlap with the show a lot, using the same dialogue, so I hope it won't take too long to translate it. I've broken up my novel translation goals into quarters for the next few years, so that by next April I should be done with all the SDFM and DYRL books, and on to Macross II. Which is weird, since he wrote the TV episode, as well... And it's not VERY different, just stuff like Minmay asking Jamis Merin for an autograph...in the show, Jamis says she doesn't feel well and runs off, in the story she just says, "I'm busy getting ready. Later, okay?" Anyway, there are footnotes to each story, with all sorts of little bits of trivia nobody cares about. DID YOU KNOW: • Nyan-Nyan's specialties include "Dynamite Ramen," "Shooting Star Fried Rice," and "Five Ingredients Parfait"? • The Choco Parfait Monster was introduced to commemorate the construction of the first Destroid Monster by the Macross's on-board factory? • Nyan-Nyan is in the Macross's left leg, but the MBS Big Hall (where the Miss Macross Contest takes place) is in the center block? • Jamis Merin had a big hit in February 2009 with the song "Hibiscus Lady"? • There are at least two cafés ("Variation" and "Purple") aboard the Macross, and a crepe shop near Minmay's school? (And the crepe she asks for? "Blueberry jam." Coincidence, or Mari Iijima song title reference?) • Minmay goes to Saint Valencia School for Girls.
