This is more of LOTR thing but it isn't, I know a few more are going to come out because of the books. It could have used more action but effects are nice. Overall I came out of the theater impressed, the casting was awesome itself. I did see this on the day it came out since I had nothing to do at the moment, it was well worth the money. Dangaioh Posted December 19, 2006 Share Posted December 19, 2006 It's true, the book was made by a teenager... no it's not a "LOTR", it's just an original story that was written by the imagination of a teenager, whose friends and families at the time enjoyed it as a fan genre fiction, that got published and had a movie deal thereafter... *breathe*. My friend, a fan of LOTR, whom thought this is another LOTR movie, keep !@%$#!@#^%! after watching the movie with me..... I had a terrible time with him, not the movie. Personally, any movie that has to be pushed this hard makes me shy away from it. You could make the best movie in the history of time but if you over-market it, and I'm exposed to that marketing bonanza, I tend to not want to see the movie... mostly out of AGNTSA feelings rather than a true, fact based dislike of the property in question. The commercials for "A Night at the Museum" are doing the same thing for me. My own personal opinion: I know nothing of the books or the movie and base my opinion entirely on the commercials that I've been bombarded with. And that opinion is: the dragon weirds me out. It just looks odd. Something about the head and the face... it does not look "cool enough" to me and it looks a tad too humanistic. Maybee it's the big, round forward facing eyes and the gradually sloping human-like forehead. I dunno... but the dragon weirds me out. Aragon, I'll pass until I've exhausted all other personal choices at my local Blockbuster. Like JsARCLIGHT said, the commercials are too overbearing, overexposed, and, other than the smoke dragon, sort of unimpressive. @phenix01: ROTFLMAO! So true. Excellent observation. I 100% agree with you here. Fantastic 4 did that to me as well. For F4, it wasn't JUST the constant trailers on TV and in the theaters but then it was all the marketing for Burger King, and then a cruise line too I believe!!! I couldn't stand that stupid "Flame On!" line!!! Have not, and don't intend on ever seeing that movie. Eragon isn't quite there yet, but I'd agree that when a movie gets over exposed like this, it's usually because it sucks and the studio is trying hard to get it's money back in the first few weeks before word spreads about their turd! I also agree that there is something "odd" about the Dragon that I also don't like. It's head lmost looks cat like or something. Not what I would like a Dragon to look like, but that's just me. By making the face to anthropomorphic they made it look more cute than cool. Draco from dragonheart was probably the best compromise to get a large dragon to emot and still look pretty cool. I only have watched two channels in the last two weeks, FOX and Cartoon Network... both are running the Eragon movie commercial and video game commercial in such high rotation that you see one about every other commercial break, plus FOX has Eragon branding at the start or segue of almost every primetime show I saw. The last two movies I went to see (Casino Royale and Happy Feet) both had Eragon video game commercials before the start and the Eragon trailer in the trailer spots. A few of the mass media websites I go to have Eragon banner ads chugging. It's sad but I've seen this creepy dragon more than I have seen my own wife right now. As Dobber said, I have not seen a push like this since Fantastic Four. Good or bad they are spending a lot of money on this push... a LOT of money. I wonder if this movie can turn a profit in theaters with this kind of marketing push. I mean, add all these marketing costs plus production costs (estimated to be $100 mil plus) and I bet you have a very high triple digit number that this thing can't climb. That is probably the reason for the hard push on the video games at the same time, the property needs to recoup as much as it can as fast as it can to clear the overhead so the makers can actually earn some money on it. Draco was okay as anthropomorphic dragons go, but it still looked too cuddly; however, it, at least, had a leathery hide look. The one from Eragon has feathered wings, if I've interpreted what I've seen correctly from the clips, and that just looks wrong for a Wyrm... a giant eagle or Gryphon, fine, but not a Drake. IMHO, the best rendition of a Dragon ever to grace the big screen was Vermithrax Pejorative from Dragonslayer. That stop motion beat still gives me a chill up my spine every time I see that movie... it's just that impressive.
