The YF-19 had one seat most of the time during testing, only when they were going to Earth did the 2nd seat pop up for the designer/engineer (can't remember his name).

The YF-19 only has and needs 1 seat. The second seat is completely optional (non-standard). The Yamato toy reflects the standard configuration.

Yawn, John, Newman I believe is the name of the designer. I believe tje seat was always there, but just for testing reasons.

In this pic, it has two seats, so it's not standard?

Yang Newman was his name although I probably spelled his name right.

Like azrael said above it was an optional configuration. Newman installed the seat so he could accompany isamu to Earth.

The Macross Compendium has the following to say about the YF-19's rear seat: -

ACCOMMODATION: Pilot only in Marty & Beck Mk 12a g-endurance zero/zero ejection seat and wearing Tactical Life Support System with upper and lower g-suits and pressure breathing; pressurized canopy with two-section double-hinged canopy glass, rear canopy air deflector panels, and canopy cover (for use in rear seat ejection); side-stick controller. Capable of accomodating optional rear rumble ejection seat.

Note, that it is optional, not standard.

I have the resin YF-19 with the weapons and it comes in a two seater., its cool. I like the two seater version.
