  1. You mean this? http://digg.com/gaming/Sony_PS3_%24499US_v..._have_HDMI_port Also, I'm not certain if the plague has spread here yet, but I'm already seeing lots of people in other forums claiming this announcement about the PS3 controller as proof-positive on the downfall of Nintendo, saying that the PS3 controller will do everything the Wii controller does. Correct me if I'm wrong, but all I've seen so far is that the PS3 controller will have tilt functionality, basically like some GBA games have, and not the full motion/pointer functionality of the Wii remote.
  2. Since I don't plan on buying a Lite to replace my regular DS, I'll be picking up New SMB as soon as I can. Sounds like the multiplayer is more of a competitive versus match in an arena and not the cooperative multiplayer through the game as many had hoped. Still, should be a lot of fun.
  3. Don't hold your breath for mine, if I even do one. I'm getting married later this year, and the final scenes of my webcomic are turning out even more complex than I'd expected On top of that, it's been a few years since I've used video editing software on any sort of regular basis. We'll see, though.
  4. You know, there's a lot of things I prefere in the Special Edition versions of the movies, especially with the DVD release which improved on a lot of what was wrong with the original SE additions. However, there are a few things that really bug me about them, too. Not in a deal breaker sort of way, but still. Han shooting first, the dance scene in Jabba's palace, and even bigger than either of those is a single line from Empire Strikes Back in which they dub over one of Vader's lines with new dialogue...and it sounds absolutely nothing like Vader's voice, it sounds like a bad impersonation. If I'm ever feeling particulary ambitious, I might actually edit together my own edition of the movies, picking and choosing what I like and don't like from the different versions.
  5. I think a big part of the problem is how quickly Square, now Square-Enix, pumps these games out. How do you expect them to explore new directions if they're already working on the next game before the current one in developement is even finished? On the music, FF7 had a very synth feel to its music because as an early PSX game, they were trying to curb load times whenever and wherever possible. FF8 and all subsequent games in the series had significantly less midi-quality to the music. Tactics doesn't exactly have live orchestra quality music to it.
  6. Personally, I loved this new trailer and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing this movie. Still, there's one nagging thing. At some point I heard the reason Superman left was to "go back to Krypton". For the obvious reasons that does not sit well with me. Anyone heard anything else about this recently?
  7. I don't believe it was that Square decided not to use Amano so much as Amano decided he wanted to do other things instead. He still did Japanese promotional materials for 7, and Amano is so popular that they told everyone he did the character designs for 9 (despite the fact that character illustrations were already floating around the net before Square was able to get Mr. Amano).
  8. Hmm, my favourite is definitely the movie version of the Macross, some others include the Imperator and Executor class Star Destroyers, not to mention the newer ship designs from the prequels (I love the Republic ships). I adore the Star Trek Starfleet ship designs from the movies. Something about those fragile looking, elegant designs. They really stand out from anything else. A good mix of ergonimic and utilitarian aesthetics. I really wish Art Asylum had done a Miranda Class and Excelsior in the same scale as their Enterprise toy. I really like both the Alliance and Imperial ships from Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Some great designs there. Metsumoto's designs are often among my favourites. The Arcadia, the Yamato, and definitely the Queen E.
  9. Nowhere really. I used to frequent a number of forums, but I have nothing good to say about most of them. The Art Forum (and only the Art Forum) at the Penny Arcade boards is pretty well run, and the Sketchbook Sessions isn't bad, but I rarely have time to do non-comic artwork these days.
  10. Kudos to the pilot.
  11. Phalanx, you do realize that the studio that worked on Big O was also one of the overseas animation studios for the Batman animated series, correct? Also, while similar, the style is not identical to that from Batman. Even so, a similar style is not at all the same thing as being a rip-off, otherwise 90% iof comic books could be said to be ripping each other off, and the same can be said of most animation. In stories, characters, premise, and everything else, the shows had very little in common.
  12. I change my stance as the name being a marketing mistake. I must admit I'm no expert in the field, and I've heard arguments for and against that seem equally sound. I do, however, remain steadfast in my opinion that I have no opinion on the name itself and only really care about the games. E3 is coming up (Next weekend!) and that's where my interest remains focused. I find the Wii's controller to be one of the most intriguing innovations in the gaming industry in quite a while. I'm interested to see if the potential shows through in the games we'll be seeing next weekend. The more interesting 360 games also seem to finally be on the way, and I'm always happy to hear more on the PS3 as well, and the E3 at the beginning of a new console generation is always very interesting.
  13. While I can understand the derision, and agree from a marketing standpoint the name is likely a big mistake, on a more important level I don't care if they name it the Pretty Princess Polka Playset and only sell it in pink and purple, so long as the games are there.
  14. I dunno, I rather enjoy Kevin Smith's movies and I don't feel the need to get high or drunk to do so. Given, I don't think he's the greatest writer/director out there and he does have his weak points, characters tend to be a vehicle for the delivery of his dialogue rather than individual characters in and of themselves, so everyone winds up sounding like practically the same person. However, I do find the dialogue to be well written, so long as pop-culture laden humour is your cup of tea. Given what passes for entertainment today, I find it difficult to give much credibility to insults slung at the man or his fans, especially in a world where there are people who flock to so much worse.
  15. The prototype picture isn't showing up for me, but I'm digging the final version. It would be nice if there was a way to go from those arms to regular arms, though.
  16. Yeah, I paged through the comments and couldn't believe how much of it seemed to be mindless praise. I didn't even see one comment about the lense flare filter which is something amateurs should know better than to ever use. If you can paint one yourself and have it look right, it's one thing, but using a filter to slap a lense flare into a picture is pretty much like drawing a picture of a guy firing a gun, but then using clip art of a firing gun, that doesn't at all match up with the angle or the look of the picture, instead of actually drawing one.
  17. I saw the first episode, hmm, had to have been months ago, when it first appeared in fansub circles. Two groups were working on it, neither one was doing a very good job of it. Still, downloaded the first episode and absolutely loved it. Can't wait to see more.
  18. There really wasn't much there to see. Of course, if you're a big enough fan of a series, every little bit is enough to get you hyped.
  19. I don't know about that, I recently went back and reread some of the old popular Star Wars EU stuff, like the Dark Horse 'Dark Empire' series, and you know what? It was pretty terrible, and this was the cream of the crop of non-movie Star Wars back in the day, along with the Timothy Zahn novels (which I've yet to reread).
  20. So, I find myself wondering, does anyone know anything about Gao Gai Gar Project Z? According to Wikipedia it's an entirely new GGG series on the way, that combines the series even further with Betterman.
  21. And have a good sense of humour. I thought it was hilarious.
  22. This is a thousand flavours of fantastic!
  23. I'd like it to be good. That would be nice. Really, there's nothing specifically I'd want out of a new Macross, whether it be the final one or not. Some nice animation, coupled with some nice designs and solid writing. Really, it could be set in any time period, previously explored or entirely new. It could feature new mecha, old mecha, or designs that exist but haven't gotten the limelight. It could have the U.N. Spacey encountering a large Zentradi fleet, some of the remaining Supervision Army, or a new enemy altogether. I really am not too concerned. When it comes right down to it, despite what some may choose to believe, I don't really even care if it's made by Kawamori, so long as it's good.
  24. I thought what I saw of the story to Beast Machines was alright, however I could not forgive the complete personality changes many of the characters recieved , the questionable themes (Good guys don't use guns?), and the fact that I love Transformers as giant, mechanical war machines. Smaller, biomechanical creatures is not what I want to see in the franchise, I had a hard enough time swallowing that for Beast Wars, and didn't really care for any of the designs until the Transmetals.
