  1. Personally I'm hoping for more mecha from the games and such. VA-3 Invader, VF-9 Cutlass, VF-14 Vampire, VF-3000 Crusader... So many great VFs. Although I can't say I'd be unhappy to get a VF-0D or a VF-11 in the Ravens scheme. I still need to get my hands on a VF-17, tho. Too many toys, not enough money.
  2. Hopefully it did well enough to warrant additional colour schemes. I only have one, but would love to pick up two more. Just can't afford it right now.
  3. Yeah, I was hoping the shoulder thruster parts would be on a hinge like the similar shoulder pieces on the Rodimus/Mirage Alternators toys, which would have allowed for more movement. The lack of underwing missiles doesn't bother me. I still kinda wish the missiles it did come with were glued in place. Might have to do that to mine, but I'm still afraid to so much as apply stickers. This is still, by far, my favourite Macross toy. Yamato outdid themselves.I want more!
  4. Speaking of how simple and fun the transformation is, kinda funny now to think how everyone expected that if Yamato ever made a toy of this, it absolutely would have to be an incredibly complex and frightening transformation. XD I wish I had a VF-19 toy, this is my first Valk purchase since the VF-11. Hoping I can get more work going soon and grab a VF-17 and a VF-19.
  5. Yeah. I *JUST* caught the mailman as he was heading back to his truck, box in hand.
  6. Nevermind! Just transformed it! SO AWESOME! So much fun! The one big impression I get of this toy is that it FEELS like an 80's toy, like the old VF-1 bricks, but it looks and has the posability of a modern toy! It looks gorgeous in all modes, it feels good in all modes, my only real complaint is that...honestly, I'd have preferred it if the missiles were molded into the toy instead of being removable. They hold well when you pick the toy up and play with it, but they fall out all over the place while transforming. ETA: Heh, thanks, kyekye, and yeah, even if the missiles tend to fall off more than I'd like, that's really par for the course in every Macross toy I have. Except, you know, the Macross itself.
  7. There's nothing I need to be worried about in transforming it, is there? No tabs that might snap if you don't move pieces in EXACTLY the right way or anything like that?
  8. OHMYGAWDOHMYGAWDOHMYGAWDOHMYGAWDOHMYGAWDOHMYGAWD! It's here! It's in my hands! It's the most beautiful thing, ever!
  9. Yeah, I'd rank 4 higher than probably both 6 and 7. But I love all three games.
  10. I never felt any of them fell apart at the end until about VIII onward.
  11. I loved IX, but it felt incomplete to me. It seemed like most of the characters whose stories were building in the first half of the game wound up being entirely dropped, with no resolution, in the second half. Even so, it was a lot of fun and the last Final Fantasy game I thoroughly enjoyed.
  12. I spent most of 2012 working on my first tv series, "Alien Dawn", as a lead artist. Hands down the best part of 2012 for me. Well, the show I worked on airs on Nicktoons starting in February, 2013, so have to say I'm looking forward to that! Other than that, the Yamato VF-4G is hands down the best toy to happen this year. I'm willing to say that even though it's not in my hands yet. I've been waiting for a VF-4 toy ever since I first glimpsed a picture of it on the net in the late 90's. Behind the DYRL Macross, it has been my most wanted toy. Now I'll finally have both! Like AreaSeven said, lots of great movies this year. Loved Avengers, Looper, Wreck-it Ralph and more. "Cabin in the Woods" was a very pleasant surprise, if you haven't seen it, GO WATCH IT! Hardly the best movie this year (That was probably Looper, for me), but a lot of fun. Worst of 2012? The disappointment I had with Prometheus is my personal pick. I still need to see Dark Knight Rises, Skyfall and some other movies.
  13. Like WM Cheng said already, it's not necessarily the quality of the artists, these are designs decided upon by committee, meaning the individual artists ultimately don't have that much say. Working in media myself I see a lot of this. Not everything I design makes it into the final production looking how I think it should. I'm still looking forward to this movie, even if the robot designs do nothing for me. Some of the other designs, like the pilot suits, seem great from what I've seen, and I've got a lot of faith in Del Toro to make a great movie.
  14. If that silver and black concept art is what he looks like in the final footage....I'm ok with that. Hand and all. I don't entirely dislike the black suit, just think it looks to flat. The silver makes it more visually interesting.
  15. Simple trick for shading, silhouette your figures in a selection, like the visible area, fill it with black, decrease the opacity to 50 and start erasing where you want the light to be. Very simple way to get that nifty 80's style solid shading. Works with multiple layers of shading, too.
  16. Heh, thanks much, guys. @renegadeleader1 Yup. Was a last minute addition to the pic. @the white drew carey Love the linework. I'm personally not a fan of airbrushy shading, but that's the great thing about working digital, you can try different things. When you haven't settled on a style or technique you can throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. I see room for some nifty design work in that final part with the car. Maybe instead of fading the last word balloon out with a gradient, have the balloon itself fade out before the text in more of a breaking up into little pieces effect. Not sure how to better describe what I mean, maybe after I finish my work for the day I'll try and doodle one up. Anyways, have the word balloon fade out that way, and as the text overlaps the black have it turn white and also kinda wither out into the blackness, with illegible words barely visible trailing off in the space behind the car. These words make sense in my head, just sat down with coffee tho.
  17. Here's something I did yesterday; Wrapping up a studio job right now, should have more time for personal projects for a while after that. Thinking of doing a second web comic. Also, Kurisama's bird fightercraft is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
  18. I absolutely loved "Looper". One of the best movies of the year, in a year filled with amazing movies.
  19. I loved it. It is what it is, a violent action movie, but it excels at what it does. The story isn't particularly deep, but it's never bad, either. The characters are fun, the movie looks great, the slow-motion and 3D are all used to good effect. (I enjoyed the 3D, it really helped with both the drug use scene effects and giving a bit of "oomph" to the sense of scale of the mega structure.) To be clear, this isn't some amazing film which will make you look at the medium or life itself in a new light. It will not astound you with storytelling. It's a dumb, fun action flick. But it's very fun, and a great Judge Dredd movie and well worth seeing. It will be a crime if they're not able to make sequels.
  20. I was kinda "meh" on the first Borderlands main game. It didn't really grab me until I got to the DLC. Which I only got to because I found myself with two weeks of down time on a project with nothing better to do with my time. Otherwise I might have never finished. My problem with the game was how all of the fantastic character and humour of the game was relegated to text boxes. That changed with the DLC, where the story and characters were presented more in-game. They also fixed some gameplay issues, like the vehicles. Borderlands 2 runs with that, and it's fantastic because of it. They definitely succeeded in making Handsome Jack one of the "great videogame villains".
  21. I don't dislike it, except that being all black seems to make it look flat. Some silver highlights could have really made it pop, while also being more of a nod to the original. We'll see. I'm actually kinda relieved after some of the talk about the design and the fake concept art.
  22. Seriously? You never heard of Infinite Space? It's like a cross between "Captain Herlock" and "Legend of the Galactic Heroes" in RPG form. Some people walked into it expecting a strategy game, but it's really a JRPG. Although your "party" is made up of ships and the space battles do require more strategy than the typical RPG battle. You have to keep track of which weapons the enemy is in range of, who you're targeting, and how far into their weapon range you are. http://youtu.be/SsJxsspHkm8 You can customize the ships with all kinds of parts, weapons and fighter craft, you also alter your stats depending on what crew members you have assigned to the various posts. The game is huge with dozens of ships and over a hundred characters you can add to your crew. The game also has some huge branching paths. You'd have to play the game at least three times to see everything. And they're not short branches, either. They make up like 1/3 of the game. The story is awesome. The characters are awesome. The music is awesome. The whole game is just stupidly awesome. One word of warning, tho. The in-game tutorial doesn't really do enough to drive home all aspects of a space battle. I had to look up three "tutorial trailers" that were posted to YouTube before I knew why the game seemed so incredibly difficult. Things like the fact that if you don't destroy the front row ships first, you will miss most of your shots aimed at the rear ships. Also weapon range is a big thing. You can blast away all day, if the enemy is only in range of one of your weapons you won't do much damage.
  23. Yeah, I mostly play PC games lately. That'll change when the 3DS gets more games where I can actually sink a lot of time into them. Like a Pokemon, Advance Wars or an Infinite Space. The kind of game you can pick up and play for a minute or two, or waste an entire weekend with. I will trade up to an XL if Platinum puts out a 3DS sequel to Infinite Space. For my money it was easily the best RPG of last generation. Home or portable. No contest. I LOVE the Wii controller for motion control games like Metroid Prime 3, Wii Sports and No More Heroes. Comfortable, and I loved how the motion control was used. I hate it for games where you turn it sideways and use it as an NES controller. For the same reason, damn uncomfortable. There was definitely a lack of support after the launch. The videogames industry has always had a nasty "wag the dog" habit. Early on, gamers decided the Wii was for casual games. So the more "traditional gamer" games sold below expectations. So developers backed off the hardware. Of course the lack of HD didn't help, it really drove home the disparity in graphics more than anything else. Actually, the one thing I'm wondering with the Wii U is how often will games use controllers other than the tablet? They show a lot of games using the Wii remotes, but the system will not ship with any and peripherals historically do not do well and are usually unsupported.
  24. I kinda agree on the intro, tho I still thought it was great. On the other hand, I think more of the "Borderlands personality" shines through the actual game this time. The original Borderlands? Kinda bland outside of the intro cut scene, up until you hit the DLC. This game shines right from the start and stays consistently entertaining. Harder, tho? I thought the start of the game was easier, and otherwise has remained about on-par with the original.
  25. I'm highly interested in the Wii U as a concept. There's no "must have" titles making it something I absolutely need to get, yet. I do admire Nintendo for their innovations, tho. I've played a lot of games from this generation, but I have to say that it's the few Wii games that really used the motion controls well that were the undisputed high points of this generation for me. Given how much fun the "dual screen" approach was for the DS and 3DS I'm sure the Wii U will offer up some brilliant experiences. Put a Metroid game on it and I'm sold.
