  1. Well, never hated Ranka in the anime, like whoever made this lol video but after 10 episodes and repeated listening to the soundtrack, May'n is the winner. Aimo is a great song, but somehow it's still a bit "empty" (?) Problem with translation is that Japanese is a bit more "condensed" as a language, so it's hard to "insert" English or Spanish lyrics in songs meant for Japanese, while trying to preserve all the meanings...and regarding accents, everybody has preferences, I am not particularly fond of the Spanish "SHHH" thing either, but got used to it. Is there some macross/bandai/etc. copyright police lurking in youtube??? how come soooo many old videos linked in this thread have been deleted???! when citing "user violation" youtube didn't mean "moe" or anything like that I suppose?
  2. May'n is really the diva on stage, while Megumi Nakajima is a totally different type. Back to the Spanish version of DYRL, honestly, the girl is not from Spain, she just learned Spanish and thought that was the right pronunciation or sth. because her "R" is sloppy, some "S" sound Spanish, some Latin-American... Nice voice and all, but not brilliant lyrics either.
  3. Hey. wm cheng has been taking a loooong break. I swear I am not the only one waiting to see some more progress on that expert build... I have to date not seen a single build that has no paint scratches or decal peeling around the complex chest/shoulder/dorsal/wing extensions (depending on the mode) area, maybe wm cheng finds an answer to this??!

    yamato's next move

figures are nice to have, but mecha is my thing, and there is a terrible lack of Zentradi stuff...not sure what are all those VF-1 V2.0 and destroids fighting against??? the transformation vs. non-transformation waters have been tested, Yamato should know by now how to market the latter after 2 destroids!? an all-1/60 range seems more plausible, since the only 1/48 ever made were the VF-1s, everything else (except some horrible 1/72s) are in the macross 1/60 scale!

    yamato's next move

we NEED 1/60 Regults!!!!!! looking at pictures of their original announcement of the Quadlunn Rau, I have the impression it was supposed to be much bigger than it actually came out...I am not sure if I want a Regult that is to scale with that QR or its "REAL" size?
  6. Allow me to ask a stupid question, since I am a bit outdated/lost...how many sets of figures have been announced? I count 2 from the same "HGIF" collection...please correct me if I am wrong, but I'd like to have some of the characters, and the reissue of CMS series 1 is tempting, always wanted to have a Mao Nome figure, and now that there is going to be Sheryl...yummy!
  7. I spend a lot of $$ on 1/60 toys, but 5K YEN for a partsformer abput the size of a 2K revoltech??? Granted, revys don't transform ( partsform in this case really), but they are extremely posable! Somebody probably implied it before here: assembling a complicated mechanism that transforms is VERY cost-ineffective, so including mass-produced parts in a bag and asking the consumer to do the job is much more profitable...imagine how much a finished 1/72 full-trasnformation VF-25 would cost (I am not talking about the 1/60 DX, which is pricey already and has much less parts than the plamo). I will have to see how pretty these 1/100 come out before I can say "Bandai, here, have my 5000 Yen!"
  8. Thanks, now I have definitely felt the complexity of the issue...
  9. A complaint a day keeps the doctor away... Still looks the same(*ankles, crotch, paint chipping, landing gears, head lasers, shoulders, etc.), only now it comes with more stuff stuck to it, and is more expensive. I remember the screws on the Yamato Strike Parts and the shoulders in the Bandai VF-25 plamo, but I keep wondering why some people whishfully think that these (painted) samples will suddenly become better-proportioned, have better landing gear that retract and be magically near perfect once they're mass produced. I trust my knowledge in the industry: at this stage, pretty much EVERY aspect of the mold is defined and unchangeable, maybe some screws will get a cap to hide'em, maybe some parts will be tightened up, some articulations less iffy, that's it...no magic solutions that make you "wow" when you open the box. This was just a reminder that there's lots of people out there still let down by Bandai's lack of commitment with the DX VF-25
  10. Angel Voice is still my fav Macross song ever...watched this youtube video before, but is it from that Electric Fire DVD you mention??? too bad neither May'n nor Megumi Nakajima sang any of Firebomber songs in Frontier, we did get yet another version of Ai Oboete Imasuka! I voted Diamond Crevasse (see the pattern?) but Aimo with harmonica would be a second best, as Frontier is regarded.
  11. The idea just came down tumbling from the sky, like the SDF-1...Honest: the moment I punched "add reply" the word "gubaba" flashed before my eyes *or course not the furry rodent on Mylene's shoulder, but you, our fellow MW'er!
  12. Thanks Gubaba, I am glad I didn't read the magazine then, and as you rightly said, I've seen both the TV and movie Macross, plus the (hiding under a chair) ..."rawbowtek"....so even the "in between" excuse came before the "it's a movie for them" one, I just don't think of it, but it actually may be confusing for non-hardcore fans. Exedore is quite extreme, between the SFD and M7 he looks completely different, if it wans't the same voice, it'd be hard to take him as the same old Exedore. I just rewatched Macross F from head to toe in a fast go over the free days, and honestly, those who were complaining about animation quality and inconsistency have a point. Originally, when I was anticipating each episode and watched them eager for the next one, I didn't really care, but now that I've seen it one episode after the other....wow....Reasons for that? I guess they had time pressure on them among other issues that I now cannot figure out.
  13. I am glad I never thought of Celine Dion's breasts...Back to serious business: in M7, Breetai's orginia Archivist Exedore is in DYRL "mode" (green skin with strange tentacles punching the keyboard instead of red hair and sining "My boyfriend is a pailotoooo!!), same as the Zentran "good guys in Frontier's Galia IV episode...and opening at the first episodes: Bodolza's mother ship is also in DYRL mode. I like to think of it like this: DYRL had cooler and more consistent animation, so Kawamori stuck to that and ditched some if not most of the original TV series' graphic style. Since the story in DYRL was so different from the entire "timeline", then Kawamori chose to excuse himself with "That was a movie within the Macross universe"...and then "the truth is somewhere in between"!
  14. no no no, you forgot the "most intense orgasms" part...if you can sing a woman to her orgasm, you want to give it a second try!
  15. Come to think of it...something interesting would be Nanase MILK, sorry, milk cartons with Nanase on them...or would David prefer "nightmares and dispair" in his milk?
  16. That's exactly what I thought, they actually bake the bread in the can, just like fish, beans, etc...easy cooking and has longer shelf-life. The only difference is that Panetone is extracted out of the can prior to fancy packaging and shipping. These canned bread stay in the can until you open them at home. Hey, merchandising, you can put ANYTHING on packaging, be it attractive images of something that's NOT really inside, or anime characters! Ai/Megumi...the Kanji for the Senyu's name could be read Nakajima AI (中島 愛), but she goes by MEGUMI...I am no expert in Japanese, but I understand "ai" means love, can anyone who really speaks Japanese explain why Megumi is an alternative "pronounciation" and what it means? By the way, and this really has nothing to do with bread anymore: Does Megumi Nakajima speak English? you know, her mom is Filipino, and in some of the songs, I hear some good English pronounciation.
  17. Looking closely at the scans (Thanks a bunch Graham!) I realized the modeller took some liberal approeach with: position of the gunpod, the catapult bar that really does not exist in the anime, cockpit panel. It's a wonderful Fighter-First build, and I can only dream mine would ever come close to this but since only the nose gear doors open and close (the main ones need to be exchanged), and the space inside the nose gear door is much needed for the radome to properly fit inside the chestplate, I'd not care too much about retractability, it may backfire in Battroid mode, but maybe there are pictures of this custom built Ozma in Battroid in the said magazine and I am worrying about a non-issue? This custom has some cockpit details, and no mini-Ozma figure, but you'd of course notice that it is nowhere near the "real" cockpit display system David Hingtgen so carefully snapped for us. Again on the accuracy issue, why didn't the modeler use the skull decal AT ALL? He did fix the tail fin extensions to match the CG model closer, but totally ignored the livery, color of sensors and lots of other rivet-counter issues?
  18. Lucky you G-man, seems you've got a strong wallet there...the fact is, another major reason for me to be so picky on the DX is its price in present market conditions. Sturdy, maybe. Ugly, sure (for a toy it's ok, just doesn't look like a VF-25), but the paint chipping doesn't solve what I define as "durability" issues. Should be. Take a real look at the pictures posted so far, you should notice they had "panel" lines ALL over surface around the areas that are supposed to be painted with the colored stripes and other details (they are not actual panel lines, they're more like "paint here" cues for the factory workers). Bandai was pretty darn close to having "SMS" and "007" engraved on the toy so the least I expect is for it to be tampo-painted, but paint, as it is shown in the recent photos, is also a liability! so you may be able to bashi bashi the DX, but it will just look like matchbox cars after some serious playing pretty soon! so much for "worry-free". That was the evil market-driven mind??? OF COURSE they would want kill you with 3 or 4 different stones, of different sizes and prices, but all aimed at you, hmm, but that makes only 1 bird and lots of stones!! Yes, now I remember where this Urkel ankles came from, thanks for the detailed explanation for some of us, sometimes not so culturally contexted with American TV. Graham's Michael Wacko reference is quite valid too, but it doesn't ryme. Maybe I just don't get it, but why is this conversation always going back to "yamato would have had more quality issues", "yamato spontaneously combusts", etc. all the time? I know: Y-brand would probably be THE only other player, but this is about the inevitable Bandai DX version, not a "What if" discussion... and when I am pointing out issues like the urkle ankles, the drooping radome, the neck, the paint chipping, the supermarket trolley wheels, etc. I really don't have yamato in mind, and MANY people have also added that BANDAI could have done better than just send their B team or C team to the pitch. I stress: paint chipping is a known issue in diecasts, and the fact that it does happen on the DX vf-25 spells "not worry-free transformations" for me, so I'd better stick to the cheaper, more appealing and maybe more engaging plamo...hey, money still goes to Bandai!
  19. After looking at those anticipated new pictures even closer, I realized that the toys they're showing are alreading displaying some paint chipping (Ozma's valk in battroid mode, shoulder area, Alto's in fighter, where the wing gloves hinges are). I know these are samples, but that does not mean they need to have paint issues while the production versions will definitely not after a pair of transformations and handling...We should probably blame Kawamori for desingning a nice-looking 3D model that is doomed to have rubbing parts and paint flaking in the articulations, be it a toy or a model, even if it's a "sturdy" DX
  20. Fighter mode: looks sad, yes the fighter looks like it feels sad! But hey, they actually got the tailfin extensions accurate! they look BETTER than the model's tailfin extensions (but it still looks sad, down, with that drooping nose and sagging landing gears)! Battroid: Alto and Ozma are wearing bermudas (Total deal breaker, they should have come up with sth to move the hip leg hinges down, not further extend the ankles to make the legs look longer, it was counterproductive). Ozma's lack of a neck makes him a turtle, a coward. I do give them credit for making the ventral fins hide in the legs, seems from the lineart that they're not supposed to show up in the Battroid mode. Gerawalk...no coment. I was still waiting for miracles, but now it seems they are simply "improving it" through marketing, not engineering. Just like Pete, I have a fear for Yamatos because of the horror stories I collect from others, and I never owned a Bandai DX, but I am not sure why sturdiness in a collector's "toy" is of such paramount relevance, is anyone really kicking and throwing around these 12K Yen and above items?
  21. Seems somebody had a very bad hangover with Zero...but purging it from the timeline would mean that would probably erase half of the Frontier story too, remember Sheryl NOME ("hopes and dreams"), granddaughter of Doctor Mao Nome, who played an important role researching the Vajra with the Grace O'Connor, bearer of "nightmares and dispair"??? You don't want the shippers chasing after you for having "erased" Sheryl! This fiction within fiction thing is a bit like Russian Matryoska dolls...but I get your point, although the fact that you point out Americans cannot envision a multilingual self-enclosed environment (Colonization ship or real-world "country" or "state") is contradictory in itself (I do have the same feeling than you, and I am not American either, which could be a liability for our judgement), given my experiences in the US, it's probably one of the most multilingual places on Earth. Maybe the problem is what we'd consider to be "an American"...remember the natives at all?? Honestly, I don't think the producers and writers ever gave second thoughts on the language issue when writing the stories and drawing the interfaces...but if the naming of the VF fighters is any indication, English presence is quite heavy, but again this could be part of the "cool factor" that lord breetai was talking about
  22. This one is my favorite...Luca is missing, but I don't mind so much!
  23. Foo, I love your avatar...I didn't find the original location of the Kawamori & Co. photo so I didn't do the machine translation, so thanks! These Seiyu don't have a "radio face" at all!! especially Megumi chan... What's with the reference to Zero???!!?!? I'd have preferred a younger Ozma saving Ranka, how the evil plot personified by Ms. O'Connor started (and who are all those villains that later became one cyborg), how Cathy entered Miss Macross, and some Basara/Mylene cameo or concert in the background...Oh, sorry, some Sheryl childhood too! OF course I am NOT Kawamori, and this is way off topic. Edit: now that I look at that again, I think it was referring to episode 10 of Macross F! To compensate, let me upload this artwork of an imposing VF-25F I found, sorry if it is repeated, but I didn't see it here before
  24. They were two impacts first: Freddy and Fannie, then there was a third one recently: Lehman.
  25. Has anybody forgotten about Macross Zero?? If the subs I got were not completely wrong, Shin tells Sara that if it wasn't because they speak the same language, they'd not be able to communicate so easily (meaning the UN and the unification was not all bad), so, the arguments regarding SDF Macross, surviving population, etc. would be a bit pointless: the world-language was something of a reality before Britai came to Earth searching for the Supervision Army. Unless of course we have decided to dismiss Zero as canon altogether??
