I'd settle for 52...26 just seems too short for a Macross TV series.

I translated the short story in the liner notes...if you want the Bridge bunny chatter, I'm afraid you'll have to wait a bit longer...sorry. Anyway, I sent the document file off to boinger, so if should be showing up on iMacross soon.

I decided to translate Ishiguro's introduction to it as well (Man, that guy writes long sentences!). Should be done later tonight, and then I'll send it to you.

Yeah, that bugged me, too. I'm surprised they didn't have an episode called "Mylene Has a Baby!" and then it turns out that her period was a couple of days late. Hell, even this episode that we're supposedly discussing is called "Bye-bye Sheryl," and she doesn't leave...

I don't think there is a simple answer. I suspect (and it IS merely speculation on my part) that Kawamori felt he kind of had to find some way to fit everything together, and so the "movie within a movie" route is what he chose to assuage the fans. But that doesn't limit him (or any of the staff) when it comes to design work. Conversely, you could say that the TV show is what happened, but really it LOOKED like DYRL. But even that doesn't COMPLETELY work...look at Macross Zero. you have to do some fancy footwork to make it jibe with the TV show, but if you look at it as happening before the events of DYRL, all continuity problems melt away. (I did eventually find a place in "Rainy Night" where it could have happened, but...it's going to make some people very unhappy...)

True, true...it's still early, and any plot device, no matter how hoary or cliché-ridden, can work if it's done right. So I guess I'm willing to sit back and WAFO.

I worked with the Manga subtitles for boinger's upload of the Plus movie, and...they seem fine to me. Not necessarily the most literal, but they read well and convey the same meaning. The only thing that bugs me is that they call the designer of the YF-19 "Yang" Neumann, when it makes a hell of a lot more sense that his first name is actually "Jan."

The one I remember most was "Don't listen to me," or something of that nature...but "Please Bang Anus please!" is pretty unforgettable, too... Speaking of whom, I think "Official Doorknob Handler" should be a title.

Was it Pony Toy-Go-Round? Man, I wanted to buy that whole store... And the Southern Cross figures weren't toys, they were model kits (can't remember if they were by Arii or Imai, though). And they can't be THAT rare...I saw a bunch of them in January in Tokyo at, of all places, a used CD shop in the Kitasenju area. As for Robotech...well, I dislike it, but it's a friendly dislike...kind of like your best pal's lame little brother. He's annoying as all hell, but if he weren't around, who would you make fun of?

I don't know if I'm buying this whole Super Dimension Crystal thing...I hope the show doesn't go that route.

OKAY! I just finished...well...I finished a first draft of the translation. It reads pretty well, though. It's not a great story that answers every question you've ever had about Macross, but it's cute, and you gt to find out what happened on Christmas Eve of 2009, before the Macross returned to earth. There are still a few bits I'm unsure aout, so if Renato or Shun or Shouta or somebody feels like going over it, please...be my guest. Now...Azrael? Graham? Where can I post it?

I just saw it as well and thought it was pretty good. It was nowhere near as "deep" and "relevant" as it appeared to be trying to be ("The Host" managed to be MUCH more profound without making as big a fuss about it), but as just a movie about a giant monster knocking down New York, I thought it was creepy, exciting, and pretty cool. I think it ripped off The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms more than it did Gojira, but either way, it did it pretty well. I also thought the way they fit the flashbacks in was quite innovative. And that, more than anything else, really sold me on the movie.

Seems to me that the commercials would ruin the mood more than an eyecatch would...

Almost done translating the story. If I give it a big push, I might finish it tonight. On the other hand, I just spent the last hour figuring out a paragraph that was incomprehensible at first. Finally got it, but I feel like putting the story away for the evening. By the way...once I'm done, is there any way I can put it up in the translations section of the website? Or should I just send it to boinger to get it up on iMacross?

Depends on what you mean by "Macrossy." The whole series has felt VERY Macrossy to me, this episode no more or less than others. But yeah...stuff going BOOM with pop music playing in the background. That's pretty darn Macrossy.
