Macross World Podcast - feedback & comments
Tochiro replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
Oh theres no 'thinking ahead' at all. Those expectations have been around since the first idols in the late 70s and the emergence of large groups in the 80's. They are just more public/harder to hide now. Kawamori has been a huge idol fan since they were originally commercially conceived. Theres always been a lot of commentary on the industry in Macross. Even in the Frontier movies, the way they show Ranka's rise to fame via minor promotional events through to commercials pretty much mirrors the actual process I see idols go through year after year and added a great layer of reality to Ranka as a character imo.- 1147 replies

Well I've only watched it played so far. I will be picking up a 2nd hand Arcadia (they arent that hard to come across here) a little later on to give it a proper spin. From all accounts its pretty horrible though! :-) May do something someday but it depends. I'm not much of a fan of recording footage for people who dont even pony up the cash for the more available or more recent games. I also just terminated my old game podcast so am taking a break from that stuff for now.

Macross 7 Bluray Boxset Details Announced
Tochiro replied to SCOOPUDA!'s topic in Movies and TV Series
I think Renato has hit it on the head. It will look good but dont expect the kind of effort that went into, for example, the DYRL BD boxset. Still, it will most likely be the final physical release of the series so I know Ill have to grab it. -
Thats what is so interesting about Macross The First - it adds to and tweaks parts of the original story. Theres a lot about it thats very cool and reminds me (albeit to a more limited extent) of how Yamato 2199 is updating many concepts of the original Yamato. Now I only hope that Mikimoto can keep the series going - his editors have asked him to make it a priority this year, yet new chapters are still rather sporadic.....

I think the original poster was referring more to Angel Voice since its such a legendary song and we have all been teased by the Mari Iijima/Yoshiki Fukuyama fan-edit version for so long. As for May'n and Fukuyama, FYI Totsugeki Love heart is the one song they've sung together, although they have done it multiple times. The first time was during May'ns first live tour (the one you linked to) back when her career was much more closely tied to Macross than it is today. They then did it on both nights of the Macross Crossover Live (Mari Iijima and Megumi Nakajima also did a duet of Angels Paints). http://www.macrosswo...ndpost&p=798586 As for FB7 - I'm not expecting much original/new material but am always eager to see more Macross on the big screen (and buy all the related merchandise, ^^; ). Will be grabbing my presales tic at the Megaroad Launch Ceremony on Sunday (Ranka, Sheryl, Mylene, Misa and Max all on stage at once - the mind boggles! :-) )

A couple of months back I finally (quite by accident) came across a good-condition copy of the first Macross game ever made. No, not the Famicon/NES game, but rather Macross for the Bandai Arcadia. 'The what' you may ask? The Bandai Arcadia was the Japanese release of Emmerson's Arcadia 2001 home entertainment system. Japan received 4 exclusive games for the system, one of which was a Macross game. Originally released in 1983 (2 years before the Famicon game) for 3800yen, this game is the black history of Macross games - its pretty terrible! I paid just under 9000yen for it but since I've seen it go on online auctions for 30,000yen and upwards, i was pretty happy to grab it and add it to the Macross collection :-)

Macross World Podcast - feedback & comments
Tochiro replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
Not at all! All that the guys and I on the podcast ask is that (a) you provide information on your podcast so we can cross promote :-) and (b) that any information or quotes used or referred to from the cast are given due credit as having come from the podcast. Theres people out there who have ripped stories from us without referencing where said stories/information came from and some of on the cast have been none to happy with this, given the amount of effort everyone puts into it. Anyways, TL;DR - PM me! Hey there Pterobat! Some great feedback, thanks! Oh, thats because you are watching it wrong. The one thing you should remember about it is Fokker. As well as...well, you know... Fokker. Did I mention Fokker? I interpreted this being less to do with Sheyls personality and more of a comment on idol culture. After all, this is an industry where underage girls are often made up to look much sexier than they normally would, and yet get booted from the group the moment theres so much of a rumour of them having a boyfriend. So the virgin/whore split is very much an integral part of the industry machine that keeps the fantasy going.- 1147 replies

Coming soon to a theater near you! Unfortunately it wont. This release is basically meant as a promo for the upcoming Macross 7 boxsets, sandwiched between new Macross F footage. Its not getting anywhere as much attention or as big of a release as the Frontier movies and something so niche is unlikely to merit a game tie in on the PSP.

Interview with Tomo Sakurai (Mylene) circa 1996
Tochiro replied to VF5SS's topic in Movies and TV Series
Pretty much fluff although its pretty hilarious how she is looking forward to finding out who Mylene will choose...hope she didnt hold her breath waiting for that one. Compared to these days, where she normally puts on a more 80's idol-like persona for her (relatively few) public appearances, she was more 'normal' back then. Intonation-wise, her voice/way of speaking has some common elements with Mari Iijima which is probably why she can cover Mari's songs better (ie, closer to the original versions) than anyone else these days. I'm hoping she sings something at the launch ceremony this weekend (although I doubt she will - after all, who needs singing when we are gonna have CAPTAIN MAX!). -
Some interesting new bits and pieces in this chapter 3 trailer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=N_HPbAHI9AI

Was doing some digging around online for an event report and stumbled across the news that AKIO OHTSUKA will be playing Domel! HELL YES!!!! AFAIK the only version of volume 2 that has a storyboard pamphlet is the earlier version that was only sold at cinemas, not online. Vol. 2 does have some extra versions on the disc though - like footage from the launch ceremony that I went to :-) I'm not sure if you can use the Emotion Family Club from outside of Japan. But even if you could, it takes a massive amount of points to be able to afford anything and once you input them into the site they are activated, meaning that have a 1-year lifespan before you lose them. All my purchases to date (Macross BD, Gundam BD, Yamato, Escaflowne BD box set, Patlabor movies, GitS movies, SAC BDs, etc) have totaled a measly 6000yen worth of points so far...the Mac 7 boxsets should net me a few more points though, i hope.
