I think the issue is less about the paint program, and more the resolution settings on your printer. I haven't used it for a while, but I would think Paint should still be able to make nice images, if you set the DPI settings high enough in the print options. Edit: Checked Paint, and it doesn't give DPI settings, so that would mean you just need to draw the eyes bigger, so they're a higher pixel resolution on your screen, before letting the program shrink them to fit on a printed page.

Can't argue there, especially in this day and age. I grew up with very few of the original Classic Space sets before everything moved to.. I think it was the "Futuron" and "Blacktron" or however it was termed then, followed by the original Space Police line, Magnetron, Ice Planet, etc.. I never had the ability to collect most of those, I just remember drooling over the designs, and using them for inspiration. I'd love to be able to go back and buy them all up now, but my LEGO collection has fallen to about third or fourth in line on my hobby expenditure priority list.

Looked at all the pics, and sure, contract language is stupidly precise and specific, but I think trying to determine what the contract's stipulations are based on whether or not another planet is pictured in box art is just trying to dig deeper than it's worth. It's the 50,000 piece jigsaw puzzle that, once completed, produces a big flashing neon sign saying "GO OUTSIDE." From the consumer end, it doesn't matter what the contract says, what figures the sets contain, or what the box art shows, because we're going to get what the company decides to release, and no amount of pushpin and yarn theorycrafting is going to change that. I'm also pretty okay with that, because that's why LEGO bricks are awesome. We can just built what we want anyway.

Honestly, I think they're just coming from the position of "Star Wars is our 'space' theme for now." Whether Disney is stipulating that in contract language is kind of irrelevant. I'm pretty sure there have been other space-themed sets since the license started, but it would not surprise me in the slightest if they sold horribly in comparison, and LEGO just decided they weren't worth the effort.

Maybe if Bandai's going to sit on their YF-21, they can do a PF re-release? I'd probably pick up one or two, if they keep the price reasonable for the mold's age.

Those are new pylons though, and a whole lot larger than the ones that came with the Eta and Zeta. Looks like they can hold a lot more, just from the number of holes.

Sheesh, why can't anyone ever just release nice 1/72 scale styrene everything? Though, forgive my ignorance if I'm forgetting some, I was under the impression that all of the previous kits were resin.

If they release a Mylene VF-11MAXL I will be all over that. Heck, I would actually crack up if they made a Basara one too, and totally buy it. Now that that image is in my head, I also can't help imagining them doing a Ray/Veffidas VF-17 duo that works like the VF-31 two-seater that had extended foot pads for two people.

That's really not a bad VF-25, chunky legs aside, but I'm not terribly interested in the Ranka figure. Can't say it isn't a really well done likeness, but I've already got a pile of 1/100 and 1/72 VF-25 kits to build.

It is, but I would say that is more fallout from the story itself, and the designs for the factions. If you don't write compelling and relatable enemies, or give them designs unique and desirable enough to give them wide appeal, you're just not going to be able to sell them. A lot of franchises don't dedicate that much work to their enemies, and focus entirely on the heroes, so the opposing factions just fall by the wayside.

I actually kind of like that detail, if only because it looks like something that aircrew would actually do. Downside is that it would be upside down and backwards in fighter mode. I don't think I can justify buying the Iota though. I grabbed two each of the previous releases, and they're fantastic, but I'm not attached to the franchise enough to feel like a completionist. I just love the designs, and the Iota's head looks.. clunky, like a mashup of the Eta and Zeta, but taking the worst features of each (purely aesthetically, I love the Zeta's face, but the antenna is annoying in fighter mode). If I see a discounted one pop up somewhere I'll probably grab one, but I'm absolutely not expecting that.

That.. is nothing like what was said. Really, I understand being someone that primarily enjoys something that not many other people do, but it does you no good to assume the worst of people who just aren't interested in buying things they don't care about. It just makes no sense for businesses to produce products that won't turn them a profit. That's what garage kits and 3D printers are for, and they are about as good as you can hope to get for filling those gaps. If someone wants something enough, they'll find a way to make it themselves, regardless of the cost.

I do recall BBTS getting them late, but I do not remember how late. The pandemic played havoc with shipping on top of the usual import delays, so I don't know what you could expect them to be right now. If you want them quickly, I'd recommend going with a shop based in Japan. If you already pre-ordered with BBTS, I could see it taking a while.

Yeah, it's steep, no doubt. I'm only splurging on one of these because it's my favorite VF, and I want at least one Arcadia mold with all the markings, and no stickers. I do wish they would stop with the weathering though, since I really don't care for it, but it looks like this is just what they're doing going forward. Guess they had to come up with a way to one-up Bandai's overblown tampo, and try to justify the higher prices.

Oh, now those I remember.. my dad had a few of those from ages ago, and if my memory serves me correctly, they should brush beautifully. Those old metal pop-caps bring back some good memories. I've still got a fair stash of Model Masters and normal Testors paints to go through, but you're right, my brushing experience with Tamiya acrylics hasn't been anything impressive so far. I might have to start importing more enamels.

Same here, I haven't removed it, but I'm not planning on getting two. I'll be curious if they eventually cull the unpaid orders.

Ok, that actually does look really good. I have my Bandai one packed away due to broken nacelles, but it does look almost dead-on for scale.

True, I hadn't entirely forgotten about that one. The clear plastic just looks bad in general on almost every release I've seen, but at least the Ambassador deflector was all supposed to be blue. The Miranda does look nice though. If only they would release an Enterprise refit to go along with it.

People seem to hate that one for whatever reason, but I've always found it fun. I have a soft spot for silly portal-based physics comedy, and the overarching plot wasn't terrible, it just wasn't very memorable.

I'm ... cautiously excited for this, just to see where they go with it. I'm definitely seeing bits of Gurren Lagann, Samurai Champloo, and Kill La Kill in there. They're cycling it through several studios, so it's going to have bits and pieces from all over the anime landscape. -
The clear parts are pretty much adding insult to injury there, since the original Excelsior nacelles didn't even light up.

Just from the reviews I've watched, I want to say the Nebula and Ambassador are probably on the good side of that bunch, but I can't remember anything about the Miranda at the moment. Sovereign I would throw to the bottom of the barrel there, because that one just disappointed me on every level, since it's one of my favorites that I considered grabbing. Misaligned windows galore, the aztec pattern looks like some quarter-assed waffle iron stamp that looks nothing like the actual ship, and the clear plastic warp grilles look incredibly cheap, both since you can see straight through them, and since they left them completely unpainted, despite including several solid parts of the nacelle in the mold.

There are ways to do it.. but in the end, I wound up making parts to replace the hinges outright, returning them to the same design as the old Yamato 1/60 design, removing the high-speed mode. I think there are details about what I did further back in this topic, or a previous Arcadia YF-19 topic. I sent off a pattern to have metal hinge replacements cut. I don't think the metal ones can be done anymore, but I think POM plastic is still available from the site I did it with.
