If you're looking for single drop in those blue spots, make sure to look high and low for them. They can appear at all levels of the map, and you might find them on the floating stones, or upper levels of some spots. I remember seeing at least one or two on the rocks floating around that big tree, as well as one high up on the trunk.

Actually, I kind of expect that some of the models are reused from the PSP games. Most aren't bad, but a couple models are really jagged in terms of modeling. The YF-29 in particular has engine pods that are nearly square, and don't match up with the rest of the graphics very well. Not that you notice it during gameplay though. And really, they may have purposefully kept the models very low polygon to help increase game performance. But still.. the YF-29's engine pods are ugly.

Actually now that I think of it, I wonder if any MiG-29s paint their intake slats that way. They're the only plane I know of off the top of my head with built in mechanical covers.

This is just my personal preference, but as far as replacement parts go, I do prefer plastic to resin, if only because I'm more experienced with it. I really do need to start fiddling with making some stuff again, I've been wanting to make a properly sized VF-25G sniper pod, and rebuild the nose on my YF-19.

Actually, I do leave mine on anyway as well, but if there were any valks I would really prefer to have them removable, it's the VF-19s. See, with the P they're gray, and even on the F they aren't so bad, but the bright yellow intake covers on the Fire Valk and VF-19S are eyesores. I mean, I think until the point that we got to the Fire Valk, every fighter in the entire Macross continuity had used grayish intake covers (not sure on the YF-21). With the Fire Valk itself, ok, the intakes are bright yellow.. it goes with the rest of the plane. But when we got to the VF-19S and F, either the animators got lazy and forgot to change up the color schemes, or someone decided, "Let's just ditch the idea that these are mechanical parts, and paint them in gloss colors!" I would throw painted intake covers in the same category as painting the engine nozzle of a plane bright gloss colors. Sure, you can do it, but the paint is going to be destroyed entirely by standard operating wear and tear. I was always under the impression that intake covers were bare metal, or whatever kind of composite material they might use. They certainly looked that way on the up-close shots of the VF-0. I don't want removable intake covers on the VF-19s so I can see inside the engines.. I want to remove them because they're freaking ugly.

Well, I'm not counting the YF-19 yet. I picked up two of each of the VF-19 releases, and might do a little customization on one of the VF-19Ps and one of the Ss.

Yeah, finishing the first playthrough unlocks a ton of characters, and their valks (or other mechs in the case of a few characters). After the first play through, you can play as whoever you want, and fill your group with whoever you want, flying whatever you want, carrying whatever singer you want.* Plot relevant messages will still come from the correct characters though, and on occasion, you might not have access to one or more of the main characters depending on the plot. *Basara is a special case. He will only fly the Fire Valk, and he's the only pilot who can fly it. He can however ride in your backseat in whatever valk you want to fly as someone else.

I'm pretty sure I saw one on the NA store as well, though the screen I saw might just be showing me things related to games I've played.

Yep, items have to be in your 30 slot personal inventory to register as being collected for quests. Generally, what you want to do when you go quest hunting.. clear out your inventory entirely (could still hold a stack of repair kits and an ammo box stack for emergencies if you need). Then fill it with any item you can fit from the second from the right tab in your hangar storage. Any item that's a box with an exclamation mark is usually something you'll be able to turn in somewhere, so I would just load up my inventory with those. Once you're done loading up, go back to the control room (the hangar menu option right above the "launch" button) and press triangle to look at your quest list. If you suddenly see a bunch of items collected, or quests just now completed, there you go. If you've got too many items to fit in your inventory at once, just cycle back and forth and pull other ones out to check. I've never really had that many quest drops to hold onto at once though. What I did notice though, is that there are certain drops that you can pick up a metric buttload of. I kept trying to deposit one drop I got, then realized that there were already 255 of them in my storage. So yeah, anything you have that many of is probably safe to sell off for quick cash.

All of them, sadly. They all reset once you restart, and many only unlock again after you complete earlier ones. It's a really borked up mechanic honestly, since all the quests that give you blueprints will let you go about completing them time after time, but never register that you already have the rewards. Really, I'm mostly hoping this game makes way for more PS3 titles in the same vein, but with a better thought out replay mechanic. While part of me would love to see an Ace Combat style game in this engine, with individual missions that can be replayed, it doesn't work well with the narrative and open world in this game. What this game reminds me of is almost like single player mmo, similar to what the original .hack games were like. Linear story, rpg progression and stats, treasure hunting for crafting materials and higher level equipment, and you've got a party that you level up to fight alongside. If they opened up the world a little more, I'd love to see what they could do with a sequel that allowed multiplayer, and added some more standard mmo-ish features, like repeatable missions, and more random "boss" spawns, like those capital ships. It'd be fun to see some more close-quarters fights too.. the caves were interesting, but I'm thinking of stuff like using battroid and running around in a zentraedi ship, having to duck around corners, open doors, interact with things on that scale, etc. Even the most cramped spaces in this game are plenty big for gerwalk mode.

Actually.. that one might be in one of the caves/ruins/bases. Check the name of the quest, and compare it to your map. Usually if you get a green quest that doesn't give you any location hints with icons, it'll be inside somewhere.

So what will be the first Arcadia branded Macross offering?
Chronocidal replied to jvmacross's topic in Toys
Actually... no, I've been seriously considering that. I can't make it match the VF-19, but I can go a long way to fix the gullet by just replacing three or four parts. Basically, just altering the angle the nose sits at in fighter can do it. -

I wonder how much it would cost to design a new YF-19 in shapeways... -
I wish this could be a group buy. Will likely wind up being the usual 2 minute purchase window where every site we know of chokes due to the mass traffic.

Actually, I think I got the VF-171 blueprint midway through the desert area. Unless you mean the 171EX, which is a different plane. That one.. I didn't find until I started doing extra quests on my second playthrough.

Yeah, no go. Looks like the only way we're getting screenshots is if we sit in front of the tv with a camera. I'll see if I can take some good pics this weekend.

Sadly what's really missing is any kind of ongoing mission system. Once you finish off the guild quests, you can't really redo the fun ones, and the bigger ships that appear on the map never respawn. One of the "Go to this spot and kill stuff" quests spawned a small zentraedi fleet to fight. Okay, fleet might be exaggerating, but I'm pretty sure there were two larger cruisers that appeared in the final wave of enemies.

Actually, after unlocking it in Macross 30, I was finally able to figure this out in the hangar gallery. That sensor fin is mounted to that plate that the legs swing with when going to battroid. I'm actually not even sure it rotates at all, but the fin winds up sticking back between the wings in battroid mode. The game isn't too careful about parts passing through each other though, so it does cut through a portion of the backplate. It would probably work out decently well if they just made it have a little bit of rotation to avoid colliding that way. You just can't push the wings together all the way in the back. As for gerwalk though, it's anyone's guess whether the legs would extend enough to keep it from dragging on the ground.

Macross 30: The Voice that Connects the Galaxy gameplay
Chronocidal replied to Moeflyer's topic in Games
Key to the temporary invincibility attcks is to just save your special combos for those moments. The invincibility works both ways, so if you trigger yours when you hear that "CHING" sound of someone starting one, you'll usually be fine. It works especially well with some of the valks, because they've got longer lasting combos, and you'll keep spamming missiles at the enemies once their combos end, and their invincibility wears off. Also, a lot of the combos seem to be melee attack based, so if you're outdoors and can switch to fighter mode, they can be pretty easily evaded sometimes. You'll just see this glowy outline of a valk rushing toward you punching empty air while he chokes on your afterburners.- 104 replies

If you want the unlocks, you pretty much have to start a new game to use them sadly. You could try continuing from the last save before you finished, but if you saved over it, yeah, you have to restart from chapter 1. You still do get a ton of unlocks for it, at least.

Given they're near the same price range due to availability issues for the YF-29, I'd say it's up to which design you like better. Bandai valks have a tendency for their joints to go limp over time, and the VF-19's feet can get floppy if you move them certain ways, so they both have their faults. I will say that the engineering and molding in the VF-19 is a lot more precise than the stuff Bandai makes, and I prefer it over the Durandal for that reason.. though I'm also biased because the VF-19 is my favorite valk design in general. Right at this particular moment though, given the whole Yamato/Arcadia thing going on, I might go for the VF-19 just because they might get very hard to get soon. Bandai's not going anywhere, and even if they produce absolutely tiny amounts of them, they can always produce more YF-29s if they want to.

Macross 30: The Voice that Connects the Galaxy gameplay
Chronocidal replied to Moeflyer's topic in Games
Yeah, actually I love how they included a little bit of drift in the lock mechanism, just because it adds to the challenge. It'll also let you aim for cockpit/head shots when you're locked on, or manually lead the target when the lock can't keep up. Really, once you level up all your weapons to maximum, everything will kill targets pretty quickly. I'm sure it's partly because I'm still playing on the easy difficulty level, but generally if I fly by a formation of enemies, and let loose a full salvo of missiles at them, I rarely have to turn around to finish off any survivors. I think I've actually spent far more time in fighter mode than anything else in the game. Someone in one of the threads was asking what the point of fighter mode is, besides faster travel. I'd say it's basically your best defensive and evasion tool in the game. You get a lot harder to hit when you're moving fast. What I actually find fun though is sticking entirely to guns in fighter mode. Missiles make stuff die so fast battles are over before they start, but having to line up a gunpod shot while flipping and rolling all over the sky is a blast. It also really makes you appreciate some of the flying tricks that a valk can do, and the way the game treats physics in some ways. For instance, it's entirely possible to stall the plane if you mash the brake button too hard, but since it also kills your engines, you can actually coast on momentum while flipping around, and basically pull off drift turns in mid-air. Boost into a climb, then slam on the brakes and point your nose the other way, and you'll keep ascending for a few seconds. It's a nice trick to draw a bead on targets, because it flips you around faster than a controlled turn.- 104 replies
