Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Chronocidal replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
I wouldn't expect these to be the same quality as those, but it would be nice. Mostly, I'd guess the flak is coming from people who normally build aircraft models, and who had bad experiences with the 1/72 VF-25 kits. They weren't terrible, but they have a multitude of stupidly fragile parts, and despite being made to transform, doing so is an exercise in "how many parts will I need to repaint after I'm done?" Bandai's great at making robot kits. Aircraft? Not so much. And even not knowing much about aircraft, they still had absolutely no excuse for how horrible the decals on those kits were. -
Probably, but I'd happily shell out to NY for that one. It's by far the best scheme I've ever seen on one. I'm definitely painting one of my 1/100 kits that way, and if I ever get a second YF-29, I might even repaint it. Probably not fully, but I'd at least get it white and add the red and black stripes.

Easy fix.. just chop that antenna off, remove the normal lasers, and make Isamu's custom version from Macross 30. I want them to actually make that one. He even added a bayonet to the gun.

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
Chronocidal replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Only real reason I paid any attention to LA was the slim hope that a new X-Wing/Tie Fighter game would ever get made. Maybe now the source code will get leaked, and we can finally tweak all the limitations in Alliance. It's far behind the Freespace 2 engine by this point, but it had one thing I don't think FS2 has ever had: true 3D cockpits.- 6890 replies

That's like saying shaving with a bowling pin is better than shaving with a bowling ball. Neither tends to work well at all. Personal-experience-wise, I've lost far more paint from their die-cast than anything plastic. Granted, that's partly because all the parts that would have a risk of chipping are made of metal, but that's my problem in the first place. I don't understand the concept that die-cast is better than plastic, or means a higher quality toy. I seriously doubt any piece of the VF-25 renewals needs die-cast. It can't be molded as precicely (or in color), doesn't mesh nicely with plastic parts, and adds a lot of extra weight that honestly isn't helpful when you have joints that tend to turn into limp noodles. People just assume it means something is stronger. But the few severe breaks I've seen on the renewals were all broken die-cast.

Yeah... think the first thing I do if I ever get around to making shapeways stuff is actually making replacement parts for all the crap Bandai seems to either break, or completely leave out of it's boxes.

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann

Given that leg mechanism, I'd say that's being generous. -
Yeah, we're pretty much completely on our own with replacement parts, even moreso than with Yamato. Apparently, Bandai's policy with replacing parts is "Send us the whole thing and we'll give you a new one. At your expense." Been over 6 months since I requested a replacement crotch plate for my VF-25G, and still no response. I get the feeling Bandai just told NY to go suck a tailpipe when I requested just the part instead of shipping the whole thing back to Japan.

Wish they'd just save everyone a ton of trouble and ditch the die-cast altogether. All it does is wind up causing loose joints, and chipped paint.
-
Yeah, it's just that front panel that you swap out for the new one that comes with the super/armor parts. Was missing from the box in my VF-25G. I've considered just keeping Alto in fighter mode (or armored) forever, and repainting his to use on the G.
-
Actually, that piece was shaped quite differently, and had a different tip on it, but yeah, that would probably be a pretty simple thing to make. Just a big cylinder that attaches over the top of the existing barrels, and gives you a new tip for the gun.

Ugh, congrats to those who managed to grab one, and good luck to those still hunting. NY hopefully will put them back up at around $170-180 in the next day or so. It's funny though, there was seriously plenty of time to order these from HLJ the first time around. There were even multiple windows, spaced out over a month or two. Then people started receiving their Altos right around the time Ozma was up for preorder, and as word got out, the Ozma preorders started drying up fast. As far as missing parts are concerned though... is there anyone here who has connections and could request replacement parts directly from Bandai? Ozma missing a crotch piece wouldn't be such a huge deal, since I doubt most people will remove his armor anyway, but my Michael is still using the crotch plate from my Ozma super parts, and of course, he's the only one I actually want to display in battroid.

Sorry for the double reply, went back and checked the dates. So, the release for the RVF was on March 1st at 4pm. Reading back, NY reopened sales some time on March 3rd, and someone posted a message about it at about 7pm. So, a little shorter than two days. I got mine the following afternoon at 2pm at the first price bump level. Day after that, it hit 190 or so. So, I'd keep an eye out from tomorrow evening through the next two days. And yeah, sorry if turning the images off actually fouled you up... I was fumbling for the right button myself, kind of blindly clicking where I thought they should be. It works wonders with reloading the item page itself, but yeah, the images can speed up the purchase once its in your cart.
-
Wow... ok, that ebay link made me laugh pretty hard. That's insane. Oh, by shortly I mean probably tomorrow some time. I wish I had tracked their times for posting more stock for the RVF. I do know that my Paypal notice for the preorder went in at about 2pm Pacific time on March 4th, and that was at $183, so not terribly marked up by that point.
-
It might not seem like any consolation, but given the patterns of previous sales, NY will probably have more preorders up shortly, and then probably will have several to sell at release time. It'll be marked up, but sadly that's kind of the way this goes lately, even for the Yamato stuff.

Bandai isn't making these for international customers, just Japan. So, really, blame HG.
-
Yeah.. AmiAmi's cart page actually glitched on me, but I kept hitting refresh, and it eventually went through. Just got the order confirmation. I'm frankly astounded.
-
Holy crap... I think I actually got one. From AmiAmi. Yeah, for future reference? Go to your browser options, and turn off any and all images. I think that's the only thing that let me load fast enough to get through.
-
Want to seriously speed up reloading AmiAmi? Go into your internet options and turn off images. They really bog down the site from loading, and you'll still know when it goes on sale from the alt-text that appears in the space where the "add to cart" button is.
-
Yeah, according to my computer, that's an hour off since daylight savings went back into effect. I've got a second clock set on Tokyo time.
-
Not bad I'd assume. They're mostly the same color scheme, except for a few panels being reversed white/blue instead of red/white. If you actually took the time to repaint the colored panels, the only difference would be the 007 markings being wrong for Michael's plane.

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Chronocidal replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Well for what it's worth, the VF-25 kits had opening and closing gear doors too. But the fact that the closeup shows a moving catapult bar means they probably do retract. Also means, everything has to be pretty out of scale on the gear to function properly in that tiny size. -
You just got yourself a little piece of Yamato history there then. Grats on a nice find!
-
That would actually explain the hair decoration. I had thought it was someone in the fancy kimono that they made a figure of Sheryl in before, but that would give a similar look to the hair.

Really depends on the site. You can do either with Nippon Yasan, but you have to make sure to select the option you want at checkout. Most sites will only charge you once the item gets there, and is ready to ship, from what I've seen.
