Came down to a combination of coating a couple of the joints with super glue or nail polish, and a few tweaks involving some of the screwed joints. I think to tighten one of the tail structures, I actually sandwiched a thin piece of plastic between the screw and the plastic on the inside of the arm.

Someone remind me.. why do we keep getting Hikaru's VF-1J with fast packs again? But.. yeaaaah, ok, they're detailed, but those proportions and shapes really kinda suck. Those might as well be SD versions. The gerwalk one especially looks droopy and malformed. I get it, they're stylized, but stylizing a character isn't the same as stylizing an aircraft/mecha hybrid. Edit: Also.. the gerwalk one has the pods on the intakes mounted backwards.
-
I'm half wondering if Bandai's release schedule is based on relative percentage of screen time each of the different designs got. The proportions seem about correct, with Hayate, Messer, Keith, and Mirage taking the majority. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the cannon fodder designs got more screen time than Arad and Chuck, but I would have expected at least one of the other 262s would have been done already.

I don't know who's deciding release priority for Delta, but I wonder if they're doing these now so they can have another wave of releases ready for the movie? Who knows what's in their twisted minds.. I'll be in for at least two of these.. possibly three, so I have one to customize, but I love the colors. But yeah, I don't expect the better canopy to last. One of these days I'll just need to pop all the canopies off my 31s, strip them entirely, and repaint the frames. If they release any of those Master File schemes, I'll be absolutely astounded.. and broke.

They're not the only Japanese company that does this sort of thing by a long shot though. I was just discussing something about Final Fantasy XIV with friends.. apparently there's a particular bonus item you could only get by ordering the basic edition of the game.. the collectors editions didn't include it, meaning you had to buy multiple copies to actually get all the bonuses. It sucks pretty badly, but whatever. I'd frankly prefer to make my own arm shields with built-in hardpoints anyway, because the big honking clamp they threw in as an afterthought sucks. I'm just going to wait and hope that Mirage's packs include the missiles by default.

I actually got my Yamatos to be pretty sturdy with some tweaking. Tightened up the joints, cleaned them up a little, and they look really impressive on a shelf. Also helps that I got two of them for like $80, because they sold terribly. I'm really surprised Arcadia is making the effort to redo them.

See, I actually never hear the drydock scene criticized that way. Yeah, it was slow, and it was a special effects budget breaker shot, but between the visuals and the music, it was one of those amazing combinations that I can see fans tearing up at in the theater. The effects shots I always see get blasted are all the VGER interior bits, the Macintosh Screensaver Sequence, and that sort of thing. They were visually impressive, but did absolutely nothing for the pacing and plot. I do wish we could get back to more of the science fiction like in TMP though. At its heart, it's basically an expansion of the NOMAD TOS episode, just expanded in every direction.

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
Chronocidal replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm on that oddball physically impossible third side of the fence that wishes everyone would go back to the MP-03 mold, clean up the blocky legs, and find a better way to stash the hip kibble, like the DX9 versions that fold it up behind the wings. The pseudo-Strike Eagle frame just helped so much to hide the robot. I absolutely love the RobotHero oversized MP-11, but I'd love to see someone bring back the clean profile from the original Greenscream. It's weird though, almost like there's some underlying difference about transformers based on real aircraft... I feel like you can get away with artistic interpretations of cars and such pretty easily, as long as they look good, but the instant you make something modeled after an iconic aircraft design, you have to either go hyper-realistic with the styling, or just make a cool looking plane, and give up trying to look accurate. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground.- 9275 replies

Yeah, the missiles that came with the VF-25 armor pack might be a little undersized I think, but the ones that came with the 171 packs are just insanely bloated. They're all supposed to be the same size anyway, and so far, the only ones that actually look something close to "right" are the ones with the exclusive 31. Go figure.

If the videos are just being bot-duped to populate channels with content, they probably won't want to put forth the effort to strip an intro to the video, but having your Anymoon watermark in the corner for the entire video couldn't really hurt. Kind of a comforting sight actually, considering how familiar it is from all your review photos.
-
While I don't know if individually flagging every duped video is worth the time, what you maybe could do is build an intro/disclaimer for any future videos (and that could possibly be tacked on the front of any older ones) that makes your ownership clear, and directs people to the proper channel. It might not stop people from duping the videos, but branding them with your logo, site, and copyright from the get-go will make it harder for them to pass off your videos as their own. It could also generate a decent amount of community support, since it'll be clear to viewers that they should be flagging the video as stolen.
-
Yeah, if this goes lotto only, and if Mirage's packs come with the reaction missiles, I'm skipping this, and just ordering an extra set for Hayate. Bandai can suck an egg with its exclusive nonsense.

New Macross TV Series in 20xx (sometime this decade)
Chronocidal replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
Until they got deus exploded anyway. -
It's been mentioned, but never really picked apart to determine the cause. When I got my 31C, I did play with it a little to see what can be done though. I'd noticed before that pushing the nose section back had helped close the gap a little, but I also tried lifting the nose this time, and that seemed to work too.. however, lifting the nose will tend to pop loose the panel on the underside of the nose section, the one that folds into the crotch panel. Pushing that panel all the way into the nose again caused the nose to droop some, and the gap to re-open. Rough conclusion? That underside panel is actually slightly too short, and it's tugging back on the bottom side of the nose, tipping it down farther than it should, and opening the gap behind the cockpit. If you don't mind sanding down plastic a little, you might be able to remove a little material from the rear edges of the tabs on the underside panel, and relax the tension it puts on the underside of the cockpit, and see if it helps the gap. There might be a better place to make that adjustment though. Personally, the gap doesn't bug me enough to bother trying to fix it, and I've always thought the 31's nose was a little too high, so that extra tug downwards looks better to me.

The array is pretty clearly off center in the gerwalk picture, so I'm pretty certain it rotates.

Probably water under the bridge at this point (... hah.), but did they basically just sweep the origin of the Starfleet logo under the rug, or retcon it completely?

Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.
Chronocidal replied to Gakken85's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I should really pick that -A up, I've got the TWOK version (literally so I can have an instant pushbutton "KHAAAAAAN!!!" on my desk ), but the materials, paint and quality of it frankly suck. They used this weird pearly and semi-transparent plastic that shows insane amounts of light bleed through, and some of the paint colors are awful. I literally ripped it apart, painted it a deep gray on the inside (the whole ship got darker from it), and clipped off the impulse engine light, because it was making the entire saucer and neck glow. -
I'm not sure the 25s used color-molded canopies either, but I'd need someone else to confirm that. I thought I remembered someone stripping one because the tinting was overdone, but it was a long time ago, and I might be confusing it with people trying to get a proper tint on the 1/72 kits.

Not necessarily. I get the feeling that the DXs aren't molded with the same technology as the Bandai models, where you get multiple colors on single sprues, and there's really nothing else to mold in those colors. It's likely a lot cheaper to make one mold for all the clear parts, and just mold the entire thing in plain clear plastic, rather than mix up multiple batches of transparent plastic. I didn't really realize this for a very long time, but Yamato did this all along as well. Very few (if any) clear parts were molded in tinted plastic. They were just molded in clear, and then painted the proper color.

When did the UN Spacy start filling their ranks with clones of Stalin? They really should hire more people off Deviantart, it would be a huge upgrade in quality. I'm slightly more than half serious.- 1934 replies

One thing to keep in mind about the increase in app downloads and subscriptions... they offer a trial period. We won't know how successful they may be until those trials expire, and all the people who signed up just for the pilot episode bail out.

New Macross TV Series in 20xx (sometime this decade)
Chronocidal replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
I really need to sit down and watch through the entire thing again, just so I remember enough to competently discuss the good and bad points. There's a part of me that really wants to see a fan re-cut/abridged version of it.. not as a parody, but similar to what the Macross Plus movie did with the OVA, rearranging key scenes and dialogue to make a more coherent story. I think a lot of content could actually be shifted around in the timeline, and you'd never actually notice. -
So.. I'm just realizing how absolutely insane the stickers for that will be. The logo up the spine is probably going to be in 20 or 30 individual parts just because of how many moving pieces it covers.
-
Yeah, Chuck's plane doesn't even have a gunpod, far as I'm aware. That's still a very early prototype though, the legs and fuselage are a single solid piece.
