I've never seen those markings in any official image of the YF-19, full stop. I've maybe seen people put the UN SPACY stickers on the upper right wing, but the N.E.T.F.C thing is something I'm guessing Bandai dreamed up all on their own. Maybe it's from something they saw in the Master File? Either way, the letters on both wings and tails are just obnoxiously huge. If they absolutely had to put them there, the least they could have done is use a smaller font.. then maybe the UN SPACY would have actually fit completely within the black stripe. I'll have to see how hard it is to strip those without ruining the black stripes on the wings. At least black isn't a hard color to match. Despite the nitpicks though, I still plan on grabbing at least two.. if CD Japan allows more than one, I might double up my order there, and grab three. Would love to have one to display on my desk at work.

Am I the only one irritated that Bandai decided to continue their overzealous tampo splattering across every surface of the plane, despite there being no actual precedent for the markings they've added? I know people like more tampo, but this just makes me think I'm going to spend a ton of time stripping the excess markings off, and touching up whatever paint I foul up I the process. The markings on the upper wings are just excessive, and ugly to me, since they break up the nice black stripes. They should have just stuck to Hasegawa as a reference. I dunno. I want at least a pair for the missiles, cannons, and boosters, but they clearly didn't bother actually addressing a bunch of the differences between the Advance and YF-19. Connection between the head and shield is still borked up, though at least it looks like they ditched the extra neck cover attached to the arm shield this time. Didn't bother to reverse the red and black markings on the lower fins, and maybe the chest. And yeah.. those heel blocks really don't look attractive at all, even if they're meant to more accurately resemble the YF-19.

Looks beautiful, but that's a pricey hunk of plastic compared with all the other fighters. Would love to see a comparison pic between that and the other kits, to gauge the size. Also, I hope the stand mount is compatible with some of the other display bases, because that new stand design will be an eyesore alongside all the other kits. Edit: Assuming Bandai's not making a new laser effect mold just for this model, and extrapolating based on that, looks like this should be between 24 and 27 cm from the cockpit to the end of the main wing. Just a hair bigger than the Y-wing, which should match up with the "canon" lengths that Bandai seems to be following (16.24 for the Y-Wing, and 16.9 for the B-Wing). I'm actually considering scratch-building an actual 1/72 A-wing to match the rest of the fighters though, possibly by some mix of kit-bashing and 3D printing. Here's an interesting factoid... the "1/72" Bandai A-wing is scaled properly to be kitbashed from 1/72 F-14 and F-16 kits; it's nearly an identical size to the 1/72 F-14 on my desk. Since I'm fairly sure the source kits for the studio models were 1/32 F-14 and F-16 kits, that makes them 1/2.25th scale replicas of the original studio model.. making the studio model around 11.8 inches long... or, roughly the exact size of the old POTF A-Wing toys. On the flip side of that though... So, if the current "1/72" kit is actually 1/48, that means the A-Wing was about 21 feet long, making it about 3.5 inches long in true 1/72. In order to properly kitbash a true 1/72 A-Wing, you'd need parts from 1/108th scale F-14s and F-16s. That's actually close enough that a 1/100 kit would probably work just fine, though. -
Gotcha, I mean I wasn't expecting it, just would have been nice to have the option like Yamato/Arcadia always have.

I was never under the impression that he regretted being typecast in those roles a single bit. He wore that role like a badge of honor. Semper Fi, Gunny, you'll be missed.

I'd go one step further and say they're more like happy meal toys by comparison, but this varies across the releases. I can't say one way or another about the VF-19 variants, since they have always looked far too simple and misshapen for my tastes, but the VF-17 toys have a reputation for being rock solid, and a very nice representation of the vehicle. Some folks actually prefer them to the Yamato 1/60 version in some ways, if I recall. -
See, my issue with the bombers isn't that they're impractical exactly, so much as they're just ducking fugly. The logic behind the design isn't worth even trying to wrap your head around on any level. I can't give them the "WWII footage" excuse for this one though. The OT worked because you were dealing with turrets and fighters, which actually becomes more interesting in space, because there is no defined up or down. Unfortunately, that same fact made the entire bombing sequence entirely impossible to even comprehend. Despite blowing up the target, that mission itself was a failure on every level, tactically, formationally, and logically. The entire lineup for the bombing run was like a squad of men running shoulder-to-shoulder, carrying backpacks full of nitroglycerine through a firefight, and hoping one of them made it through to actually reach the target.

I think you should also be able to mount the missile pods and strike cannons from normal fast packs on those packs. They changed the mounting point, but I believe the front still pops off like the rest of the boosters.

Thanks for the clarity on that, someone I'd been discussing this with took this decision to mean that HG was getting it's wrist slapped for trying to sue HBS over something that the judge thought deserved to be thrown out, and was overly hopeful that that had all kinds of implications for what designs could be used in Battletech/MechWarrior materials in the future. I think there's some misinformation floating about that paints this as HG getting defeated in a way that will actual impact the franchises they've been holding hostage, but from what you're saying, this was just them agreeing that HBS isn't involved in the suit that HG is still filing against the other groups listed.

See, that I would have very little trouble believing, but I'm surprised that Bandai hasn't bothered to mention things one way or another about it.

All they have to do is build it with the same transformation as the 1/72 model, and it'll be a breeze to transform. The multi-segment hinges in the wing mounts on the existing DX are just a structural failure begging to happen.

So the big question I have about Battletech then. Does this set wider precedent that bans HG from trying to bring suit against any Battletech/MechWarrior-related product, or does this specifically only apply to this single case? It sounds from the wording like this only applies to the Harebrained group, but leaves out Piranha Games. Also.. realistically speaking, while it's nice seeing HG get slapped upside the head, I'm not sure if this will directly impact anything further down the road. Assuming that Big West and Tatsunoko eventually bury the hatchet with regards to their distribution fiasco that started this mess in the first place, won't all of those original design rights wind up back at Big West, and require any Battletech/MechWarrior property to go through them for design licenses? And would they even allow it?

My J-type just arrived, and I'm more than a little disappointed in the change in packaging from Calibre's usual. Packing the plane with the gear mounted was a lousy idea.. mine got jostled just enough to basically break apart the entire nose gear assembly. That in itself isn't really an issue, it's easy to re-glue.. but the parts floated around the rest of the package, bent up the nose probes, detached the nose pitot, and left a nice scratch on top of one wing. All in all, nothing is broken, and I can fix the probes easy enough, but that was just not a good idea to package them that way. I do like the clean spine much better though. The disconnected stripe behind the canopy on Roy's just looks out of place, and wasn't on the original advertisement. -
I'm still baffled that no one in the entire First Order had the sense to shoot the evacuation cruiser, instead of the empty Resistance base. The entire movie was tactically a parade of people with their pants on their heads, running into walls. The ending... honestly, it just feels like a complete reset to ground zero, all the way back to ANH, and wiping out all the progress since 1977. There are good and bad things about that, but it really doesn't have my hopes up for Episode IX.

I mean.. I would have figured this should be obvious to pretty much anyone involved, but it does play along well with the thought that Hamill really didn't like the direction Luke went in the last movie. I've been under no impression that "getting the band back together" was even remotely on the table from the start of the new trilogy, honestly. The closest we had was Han and Chewie boarding the Falcon in TFA, and that was about the last real nugget of nostalgia we got along those lines.

I've asked this sort of question about every single design since the new trilogy began. Also, for the record, I'd take literally any non-Star Wars design by LEGO in the past 20 years over anything on that page. Yes, that includes Bionicle, Ninjago, heck even the Spongebob rocket set at least looked more functional as a vehicle than those piles of wasted plastic. I think every new design from Star Wars since the new trilogy started has failed on both an aesthetic and a marketing level. They're butt ugly to the point that no one's going to want to buy the toys, let alone models of them. Wake me up when we get box art for B-wing and Tie Bomber kits. Side note: I would love to slap every dipwad designer at Revell upside the head for making such idiotic kits.. what sort of braindead lump of flesh designs a "build and play" kit of what amounts to a car, and then forgets to give it wheels to make it actually... you know.. roll? Where's the "play" function of a car that doesn't have any moving parts? Same thing applies to those "patrol speeders," but at least Han's car actually looks something like a vehicle, as opposed to someone straddling a cubicle wall with handlebars. -
It may as well be stacks of cash, for all the amazing sales figures this thing will be bringing in for them.

As much as I appreciate Hasegawa attempting to provide a display stand for these, I've never understood why so many manufacturers seem hesitant to put mounting points in obscure locations so you can avoid the bulky cradle setups. Best ones I've ever seen are the way Bandai does its Star Wars kits. Simple plug mounts, and panels to cover the mounts if you don't use the stand. I'm hoping Bandai does put out a Mirage 262 1/72 kit too though. Much as I love a clean fighter kit, I really enjoy the assembly process for the transforming kits, and I'd love to mix and match some purple panels with the pearly Roid version.

I just see that waste of materials and tampo, and think of how nice it would be to take all that money blown on the production line for this monstrosity, and put it to use making something people actually want. I have to assume they're under some kind of contractual obligation to produce this crap, because there is absolutely zero sense in wasting all that money this way.

When and if that day comes, if the Arad custom is the only one I can get, I'll be shoving it to anyone who wants one for a trade. Really kinda sick of the tramp stamp logos at this point.

I'm just holding onto mine until NY says one way or another what's going on. If they only offer store credit, I figure that'll at least cover all of the armor and super pack orders for the next few years.

So... I forget which release this was, but previously Milia's pilot name was given as "M. F. Jenius." I'm thinking that was what the option was on the VF-22 releases. I might also be thinking of Hasegawa decals. Edit: Confirmed for the Hasegawa decals, they use "M. F. Jenius."

See, again, I would hope so, but we don't know what real method these shops are using. Given the scalper market in the past, and how NY used to acquire items, it would not surprise me if they cancelled when they realized they would have to actually get their stock from third party sellers at a loss, because the prices spiked so fast. It's why I'm holding onto my order. If they're bluffing about the supply, and waiting for people to cancel so they can relist them, I'm calling their bluff.

See, that would make sense, but again, I'm thinking Bandai just had no idea how popular the design was going to be, and might be rushing to capitalize on that by rearranging production lines to make more. I'd love an update, but that's why we need someone in Japan who can actually check on this stuff for us.
