All I'm saying is that you have no idea whether these "allocated time slots" even exist. They're purely a construct of your perception, and have absolutely nothing to do with any plan, past, present, or future, that Bandai has in place for production. Just because you don't make one thing doesn't mean you have to make something else. It's entirely possible that removing the Dougrams would have just resulted in nothing being released. You're welcome to shoot the breeze with baseless assumptions all you like, my brain just mentally objects to all these leaps of logic that Evel Knievel couldn't hope to land. Really nothing to worry about though, I just think it's amusing. As a fanbase, we love to armchair quarterback Bandai, Yamato, Arcadia, and anyone else who is producing stuff we want to buy. Trying to read the tea leaves that these companies use to pick and choose their release schedule is deep magic.

I know it's hypothetical, but like I was saying, you can't assume to know how Bandai has their stuff timelined, or whether one product is conflicting with another. It's similar to the old saying, "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence." You cannot assume that just because something else is released they had to take a slot from a Macross product. There may have been nothing in that release slot to begin with. Without inner knowledge of Bandai's production schedule, you really can't make anything but WAGs about that. But if you had a side product that you could run through that manufacturing facility to keep it producing something, why wouldn't you? That's just good use of facility resources.

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Chronocidal replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Okay, I admit I'm slightly confused by a couple of those figures.. maybe the photos aren't the best, but that Padme looks like it has Rey's head on it, and the Voss figure looks like... Neil Patrick Harris? -
Actually, no, the bots will be very useful for trolling HLJ's listings for new products now, because their search function is so utterly crippled. I actually expect the reason we're all getting HLJ cancellations is because we found the listing so late. They're usually right on time, but we used to depend on the advanced search to find the listings. WIth that functionality gone, the bots that get a huge advantage, because they can just parse the site at breakneck speed and clean out the orders before we've ever seen the listing.

This would imply you know the inner workings of Bandai's development teams, and their internal release schedule plan. Just because you see a "slot" in the schedule doesn't mean Bandai sees it the same way. It's entirely possible that they just don't have Macross releases ready to fill those slots, and the non-Macross releases are literally to fill a production gap, and keep the factory running so they can avoid start-up costs for the next release. You can't make the assumption that producing something non-Macross is taking away time from Macross releases. Remember, this is Bandai. They're huge. They have multiple teams working on multiple products all the time. Unless you have insider information about one product taking development time away from another, it's just as likely that the non-Macross releases are being thrown in because they need something to keep the factories running between Macross releases.

Robotech and REMIX by Titan Comics
Chronocidal replied to Old_Nash's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If they've actually circled back around to self-deprecating humor about their own incomprehensibly unstable art, I have to give them slight credit. Slight. On the other hand, if they push the nonsense and fourth wall abuse much further, I fully expect the final issue to consist of Deadpool stealing Voltron to go back in time and kill Carl Macek before the entire mess happens. I actually think that would be a fitting end to the franchise.- 1934 replies

So much for that idea. I think a good question right now is whether anyone who got an order with HLJ didn't have their order cancelled. Bleh.. I need to not look at this thread for awhile. Nothing to do about this until summer, and I can feel my arteries hardening by the moment over the frustration from this freakin trainwreck. Just going to pray for good news at release day.

I'm trying to form a logical path to a PF anniversary release, and I keep feeling like my brain hits a brick wall. I want to think Arcadia would have to pay collectors to take those off of their hands if they made them.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how the prices for Arad's 31S are trending? I'm partly wondering if people are scrambling for Chuck's because they know he'll be getting the armor pack. I think Arad's pre-order missed the boat there, because the packs were only revealed after the pre-orders were closed, but I don't remember the timeline for certain.

I should really work up some adapters to put the VF-31 reaction missiles on the other Bandai valks. Those stupid 171 versions were blimps.
-
Far as I remember, everyone was limited to 1, even AmiAmi, after that mess with the DX VF-1 and all the accidental multiples. Part of me wonders if Bandai is actually nixing the Delta line production so they can crank out more VF-1s.

Aaaaand I just lost interest in the franchise. The season pass model format can swallow barbed wire and floss itself.

We're getting there with the VF-4, and technically they did release that Messer VF-1S, but that's in kind of a gray area.

Robotech and REMIX by Titan Comics
Chronocidal replied to Old_Nash's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It really is entertaining to watch, honestly. I've probably quoted that Calvin and Hobbes strip with the airliner, train, earthquake, and gas leak all converging on a poor farmer's house here before. This is kind of like that, but it's happening at a clown convention, the airliner is a C-5 full of cream pies, and the train is full of feathers and confetti.- 1934 replies

One more cancellation notice from HLJ, and I had my order in the very split second it opened. Same deal, found in my junk folder. I wonder if they actually had their entire supply nixed by Bandai. As little as I trust NY to come through, they're my only chance now, looks like. Fortunately I didn't actually lose anything ordering one at the first markup, since I bought it with the credit from my cancelled 31A. Now to see if I have to get the same total refunded twice because of their nonsense. Going to be relieved when this sh!tshow comes to an end, I'm burnt out from how stupid it's becoming. I don't know though.. this was supposed to be a general release. I wonder if it's actually going to be that scarce, or if we're just going to see tons of them on release day, as all the scalpers ditch their unsold preorders.

If Arcadia pops up with a PF VF-1J Hikaru, I might bite, but I'd prefer the supers to the GBP, just because I want a PF set of generic TV super packs. I wonder if Arcadia would consider releasing PF super/strike packs? Strike probably not due to the variety of skull markings, but they could easily mass produce the standard TV packs with the kite printed on them. I'd probably buy three or four sets of those.

Granted, we're not talking about marketing these to kids, but I wouldn't be surprised if that type of thinking is basically what led to the 5 POA Star Wars figures both returning, and then bombing utterly. Functionality, either in points of articulation, transformation, or just general playability is a huge factor in convincing people to buy things, and plays a huge part in perceived value, even if it's something you don't make use of a lot. Just knowing a product is capable of something adds to the desirability and potential profit margin for the company producing the product. There have been fairly successful toylines of pure mechs like the old Battletech toys that didn't transform or do anything particularly fancy, but the only way to get kids to buy those was to dress them up with spring-loaded missile launchers, pop-off battle damage, and other "action" features. Even then, I don't think those toys lasted very long, and I remember them seeming incredibly overpriced for a robot that could swing it's arms and legs, shoot a few missiles, and pop the cockpit off like an ejection pod. Those are "toy" things though, and these are basically pre-built models, with a more collector-centric focus. The most telling thing about the lack of more destroid releases to me is that Bandai clearly has plenty of time to make other designs, and they aren't making more destroids. You know that if there was a huge demand for them, Bandai would be cranking them out instead of the never-ending parade of VF-1s. But they aren't.

New Macross TV Series in 20xx (sometime this decade)
Chronocidal replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
Irony of ironies, you can't even say Delta had a triangle. The last time I saw a triangle that narrow, the co-located vertices caused my 3D printer software to crash. -
You can't really compare action figures like GI Joes and Transformers to HMR releases. Kids aren't buying these to have battles on their bedroom floors with. If they cost $5-$10 a pop? Sure, kids would eat them up. But that's not what these are. On another note though.. keep in mind that the vast majority of popular Macross mechs transform. Selling the non-transforming mechs and vehicles from the franchise is like trying to market all of the standard civilian vehicles seen in Transformers cartoons. "Oh look, it's that jeep that the one army guy followed Optimus Prime in... yay?" They just aren't nearly as interesting as toys.
-
Also means you can mount whatever other pod you happen to have on Chuck's ride if you want to give him weapons. I actually forget if he used the sound booster styled pod during the asteroid battle episode though.

I actually would still recommend having glue on hand for those, just to reinforce them. While the kits can be transformed, they're absolutely not toys, and won't hold up through repeated transformations without some kind of structural enhancement. The 262s in particular need some reinforcing because while the majority of the moving parts are just fine, some of the thin plastic panels absolutely are not strong enough to hold up, and will begin stressing and snapping into multiple pieces within a single transformation.
-
Looks awesome painted up, though it makes the complete lack of detail in the cockpit that much more painful on the standard release. Only quibble I have is that you should rip out the stock stick, and replace it with something that's not as big around as Hikaru's thigh. That stick is just unbelievably chunky.

Given the history that PC ports of console flight games have, this surprises me less than 0%. It's almost a pre-requisite that any console port of games that use fancy peripherals just flat-out will not work as intended on the PC. Is this like the HAWX bug that forced you to unplug rudder pedals because the game couldn't comprehend that many control axes?

The Ba would be the most reasonable to do, but just like Alto's 171EX, they can market the NUNS tan 171 with Hayate as a hero unit, which is more than you can say for the vast majority of the cardboard boyband squad in Delta. Given Bandai's history, and their unflinching dedication to over-engineering the crap out of everything, I want to say the chances of the second option are non-existent. While there are changes that could be made to the 262 to simplify it, I think the DX version may have the more screen-accurate transformation, and even with as fragile and overly complex as it seems, we haven't seen mass reports of it breaking... whether that's due to it being unexpectedly sturdy, or just due to lack of widespread ownership to generate breakages is anyone's guess. I'd happily gobble up more 31As in any format, and Bandai left a big opening for them with Arad, and even the possibility of a -2 release, but I think with so much effort going into the DX VF-1, we're going to see less Delta releases, and not more. I'd be happy to be wrong about that, but if we don't see more 262 releases (or a 171) soon, I'm thinking Bandai's just going to drive their 31 molds into the ground, and forget the rest of Delta's designs. Much as I'd love to get a DX Elysium, I think the Quarter's sales numbers nailed that coffin shut before the series began.
