  1. Oh, nice, yeah that's definitely the FB2012 style shoulders and helmet. While I actually like the VFX one better, this one is accurate to the artwork. I hope they do more to fix the pilot slop though, just changing styles isn't going to keep him in the seat any better, and the instrument panel is just way too far forward.
  2. Not like I expect the paycheck to be anything that wouldn't require you also working shifts at the local grocer to make ends meet, but doing that little work and coming away with a semi-livable salary doesn't actually sound like too terrible a thing.
  3. It's also equally probable that they're going to make a nice replica of that "Monkey Jesus" mural, or wind up printing a page from the New York Times. The odds of coming up with something that people actually want to see are not very favorable.
  4. It's nice being a casual fan who just enjoys fancy transforming robot vehicles for their individual merits, devoid of any notion of "canon" or "accuracy." That being said, I love that design, partly because it looks like something out of Phantasy Star. The Firebird Arcee definitely has shades of that as well, and while I get that they've taken liberties with the original character designs, I think they just work well aesthetically.
  5. I mean... technically they did, there's just some assembly and painting required. I really do wish someone would make a dedicated 1/48 line of Star Wars fighter kits though. The ships just tend to be so small compared with modern aircraft, and some like the A-Wing or Snowspeeder really need to go closer to 1/32 before you get some shelf presence.
  6. I could absolutely see Tarantino making a Pulp Fiction-esque Ferengi heist movie though. Probably involving ripping off a Betazed wedding venue.
  7. Problem with that is that they're literally legally not allowed to continue Trek that way. Star Trek is quickly mutating into a rival for Robotech in the arena of copyright fustercluckery. If you watch some of the discussions on the subject, the entire "Prime" universe looks like it was never intended to actually be based on Trek canon, that is, all of the original series. It's some fast and loose playing with words and meanings to try and get fans to adopt the new standard, and why Discovery looks nothing like TOS. Unless all of Trek gets brought back together under some sort of CBS/Paramount re-merger, no single entity will have the necessary licenses to produce Trek that exists in what most fans know as the original canon timeline.
  8. Boy I wish we could get a proper re-tool of the old Y-Wing. Sticks out like a sore thumb between all the better scaled/proportioned ships there. A re-re-tool of the FX-mold X-Wing would be great too.. one without the limp/saggy wing mechanism.
  9. My guess would be licensing fees, really. They probably can save a decent chunk of money by not having to either license the designs, or pay the original character artists for official art of them.
  10. I think the visuals aren't going to give you any actual sense of what's been improved, because the shape really isn't any different. Will probably take having one in-hand to actually get any understanding of what's changed.
  11. Welp, looks like I can definitely scratch off at least one of my older VF-4s as a sale item. Will gladly pick one up that saves me the trouble of repainting though. I don't feel bad about this one being fancier than the others, since this would be the one I'm displaying, while the VF-4Gs get either repainted, or swooshed.
  12. So.. if that's confirmed, then it may also confirm my impression from the initial 5 seconds of the teaser. The feeling I got was that the girl is Hugh's daughter.
  13. I don't even know thing one about Mospeada, but that Legioss looks great, and I might try to grab one just to have one in my collection. Any shots of how far the feet stick out the back?
  14. It's also why the internet was subjected to Space Bieber.
  15. I have to quibble though.. wtf are those rims on the DeLorean?
  16. Oh, that's enlightening on an entirely different level. This actually makes me wonder if Bandai would be in a position to purchase Big West outright, if they considered it to be beneficial in some way.
  17. Nothing to back this up at all, just speculation and dramatic exaggeration on my part. I know they offered up the original distribution rights to Tatsunoko to help fund the series. My understanding though was that Tatsunoko never owned what HG claimed they purchased from them, and was never theirs to begin with. Paying off Tatsunoko to get those distribution rights back now smells slightly like paying a ransom to get back control of portions of the franchise they never intended to sell. I know there's a lot of legal language involved in exactly what Tatsunoko was granted, but I was always under the impression that, either by accident or design, they never made any attempt to clarify that what HG claimed they purchased was not something Tatsunoko was legally able to sell. I am glad to hear they're investing in the international market though. I saw the bit about Delta merchandise in the UK, but didn't know the scope of their pursuit of the international market.
  18. Especially considering that, unless I'm forgetting things, I believe Chuck's first appearance in-series was of him cruising in orbit, sporting the packs.
  19. So, BW refusing to do business with Tatsunoko is an interesting twist to this I hadn't heard before. Not that they really have any reason to really do so, I suppose, but I wonder if BW is playing their own waiting game with Tatsunoko, hoping they'll go under, or offer up the distribution rights willingly. Given the lack of action on that end of the globe, I have to wonder if BW is just perfectly content not having to deal with international distribution for Macross at all, and doesn't see any reason they should have to pay anything to get back what they never actually sold to Tatsunoko in the first place, and HG claims they now have. While we'd all love them to sell official Macross merchandise here, the perceived value of this market may not be worth the loss of face and and effort it would cost them to basically pay what amounts to a ransom note for the IP HG laid its claim on.
  20. So I just slapped together one of the 31As recently, and went together pretty cleanly. Figure is fine, don't know why they're cats, but it's a decent Figma-ish figure. Valk itself is a pretty nice mold, and will need a lot of painting, but holds together pretty well. The stand socket underneath happens to fit your typical HMR-compatible stand, so that's definitely a plus. I think the wing panels need a better snap/latch though, since they're just laying against the legs, and like to flip up on their hinges if you bump them. Definitely a decent mold of the 31, with a few proportional tweaks to the legs and gunpod/weapons pack area.
  21. My brain hurts from having that many theme songs pop into my head at once.
  22. Now, that I can agree with.. though 1/350 would be a bit big, I'd love to get a proper update to the old AMT kit. The only thing really keeping me from getting all of the existing 1/350 kits is the lack of display space for ships that huge. The old AMT kits I have are big enough already, even if they're nowhere near as good. Though.. maybe this is one of those cases where I should grab the kits before they disappear..
  23. Very fair, I was generalizing too broadly. Your last point there is pretty much what I was aiming for.. they don't want to invest enough in making new material. They can come up with kitbashes and derivatives of all of their own stuff until the end of time, but unless they actually pony up the money to draw in some talent with the abilities to do better, that's pretty much all they're going to have. I honestly don't know how they would even begin to recruit new talent at this point.
  24. That scene is probably my favorite bit of him in the entirety of Trek. ¡Olé!
  25. So, I actually recall some random note on that array, and it being referred to as a greenhouse/arboretum area. I don't know where that was, or whether it was just blowing smoke. I'm not sure if those are supposed to be windows, or an actual glowing sensor/projector of some sort. Given the location, it would make sense for it to be a tractor beam array, since the lower array on the bottom of the ship wouldn't be any good for pulling things into the shuttle bays. Far as the 1/350 Reliant goes, has Polar Lights mentioned a larger scale kit of that ship yet? I have their 1/1000 kits, and they're not bad, but the fit/assembly on the Reliant isn't very good.
