  1. Really? There are people who believe this? What could possibly be the reason for a company to get a license, and then put time and money into creating toys all in the hopes of sinking said brand in which they have a vested interest in doing well? Sorry, I'm pretty new to all this Macross history, but this makes no sence.
  2. I would just like longer landing gear so a figure like Michel can have the gun in fighter mode and swivel thighs. Heck, I'd live without swivel thighs since Gerwalk mode isn't something I generally would like to pose my valks in. Just the freaking landing gear. As it is, I am happy with the way the VF-27 looks like in all modes thanks to those changes. Yeah, definitely deals can be had now. I'm more talking about when these things first get released. For example, the DYRL VF-1S is selling on HLJ for $150 US. The Vf-25 valks started out about $180 US, etc. With shipping to Canada and exchange, these things get around $200 and over. The local comic shops are worse. The Vf-27 on HLJ is on for about $140 + shipping, which would be about $170 cdn. Just checked my local import toy shop and they're asking $195 before taxes, which is an additional 12 percent!!! So I generally try to avoid them as much as possible.
  3. Question: What is the likelihood of Bandai revisiting the 1/60 Chogokin VF-25 figures and making improvements? (Most notably changing the stumpy landing gear, adding swivel thighs, etc.) Has Bandai done this in the past for other toys? Because I want the Michel and Ozma VF-25 valkyries, but I'm wondering if I should hold out just in case they get improved releases, or if I should just say screw it and get them as is right now considering I can find some deals online?
  4. Yeah, Roy is tough. My local comic shop had him at a bit of a discount, so I figured I would just go for it. I don't know if they had given up on selling it or what, but it was actually shoved in the back storage and they had to dig it out. Absolutely no problems with quality control on mine.
  5. This looks really nice. Might have to be my next purchase. Also looks like a big, big improvement over the VF-25.
  6. Wow. Nice pictures guys! Just starting my Valk collection. Got my first Valk, the DYRL 1/60 Roy Focker a few weeks ago. I love it. My pictures aren't very good quality, but here are a couple.
  7. That's funny, cause my girlfriend got me the same valk a couple weeks ago too for my birthday. I had been staring at it at my local import toy store for literally months. I'm used to buying $10 Joes and $20 DCUC figures. Not $150. My GF finally got it for me, and I think it is worth every single dollar she paid for it. I don't think I've ever received a toy before where I was so thoroughly impressed with, from top to bottom. You're right though about this not getting out of hand. I mean, at $200+ a pop for a brand new valk, it's not something you can army build, you know? Once I get my SV-51 and VS-0S, I'll get a destroid, a couple stands, and then probably wait until the VF-25s get better in their engineering, or Yamato takes a crack at them. It's not like I'm going to buy everything out there, and like you, will only buy ships of characters I like or resonate with. (eg: hated Shin and Alto, but like Roy, Michael, etc.) I'm learning now that, at least with Yamato, it is best to wait for reviews first before buying, due to the potential QC problems of early releases (like the shoulder problem). I'll only buy these things once I get confirmation from others that it's safe to do so. Might get the Ghost Booster set later.
  8. Yes. Yes it is. I held off for as long as I could before finally picking up the DYRL Roy Focker, and man... when I first took that piece of plastic crack out of the tray, I had a geekgasm. I'm addicted now. I thought I would only get one, maybe two valks, but now I'm in it for two more, and more later on if the price is right. With the discounts right now at HLJ, the price is definitely right. Plus, I figure I'll need a Destroid as well. Sold my GI Joe POC MOC figures to fund this latest purchase. FML.
  9. This. It's the internet, so people are gonna lift what they want and use it for whatever they want. It's such a small thing though, that there's no point in pursuing any sort of legal action or anything of that nature. If they're nice, they might remove the images if you send them an email telling them to, but really, there's no point. I take scenic photos and post them on the internet now and then, knowing full well they may be used at some point by someone else.
  10. Well I went ahead and ordered a VF-0S and Nora from HLJ. At $250, Nora wouldn't have been worth it, but at $100, it's a great deal I figure. Can't wait to get them both!
  11. Interesting. Thanks for that bit of insight. Gundam never really did anything for me, so I haven't really touched the stuff. The fighter mode definitely seems to be the best of the three. I hope this "good enough" mentality isn't a trend with these companies.
  12. Yeah, I've been reading and watching a lot of reviews on the VF-25, and by all accounts, it seems everyone is displeased with it. That's a shame, cause it doesn't look like Yamato will get the chance to make one of those, at least for a long time. Personally, I have decided to only get the Yamato valks unless something truly groundbreaking comes from Bandai at the 1/60 scale. It sucks that these things are so expensive though. I would love to have a squadron of valks, but it's just not feasable at $200 a pop. While I really like the Yamato valks, and think for the most part they are built well (once the inevitable second version comes out that fixes whatever problems the first version had), I still think they're overpriced. Really, when it comes down to it, if you're paying $200 per toy, it should basically be perfect the first time out, IMO. I mean, it's not like buying a $5 GI Joe toy that has two left arms. Going out and getting another $5 replacement isn't a big deal.
  13. Yeah, I can barely afford Valks as it is, so something like this definitely isn't catering to me. That's okay though, I think it's cool that something like this exists for those that could afford it. (Tell you the truth, even if I had the money, I doubt I'd buy it. Just on principle, I can't spend $400+ on a single toy. I just can't.) I'm content to just look at the pictures. Maybe one day I'd be willing to shell out about $200 max for a 1/60 scale regult, but I'm not holding my breath.
  14. Awesome, thanks. I think I'm going to drop some cash for that and the Nora.
  15. I really want one of these but after reading all the problems. I am paranoid I'd I get a lemon for $200. I still might order one from hlj if they are the reissues. I don't know. For a $200 toy it should be perfect out of the box.
  16. Thanks for the answers! Follow up question: I read in the reviews that the VF-0S (Roy Focker) from Yamato had some durability issues that were fixed in the Ghost Booster set that was later released. According to the Macross toy release list, the stand-alone was released again earlier this year. Does the second release of the VF-0S have the same fixes as the Ghost pack? Honestly, I would like to get the Ghost pack, but it is nearly impossible for me to find one where the price is reasonable, but I know the stand-alone is available at HLJ for sale, and the ghost can be had for its regular price elsewhere. I guess I'll need to inquire with HLJ as to what release they have...
  17. When it comes to the scale, is there a definitive scale? I bought a Yamato 1/60 VF-1S and I love it, but I don't want to get into a scale that isn't popular and might come to an end soon. It seems to me 1/60 seems to be the size to be. Also, this is probably a loaded question, but who does Macross toys better? Bandai? Yamato? Toynami? Or does it matter based on the particular line? Does Yamato make a 1/60 VF-25? I just started watching Macross Frontier and would really like a Michael and an Ozma Valkyrie, but all I see are Bandai ones. Is it cool to mix and match between the brands if Yamato doesn't make them? Cause I'm guessing Bandai has exclusive rights due to their name showing up on the actual show...
  18. Cool, thanks a lot. Those Flexi stands look pretty cool.
  19. Noobie here. After much waiting, I finally bit the bullet on a 1/60 DYRL Roy Focker. And I have to say... wow. Just... wow. I am so blown away by this. Before this toy, my only Macross toys were the revoltech ones, and the one from the 80's that was repainted into the transformer Jetfire. It's a beautiful toy. Sorry about the gushing, but I've been having geekgasms for the past week. My question: I am looking into getting a stand for this figure. Are the Mighty Block stands good? I found some "deep blue" display stands, but they're expensive. Would prefer to spend less on a stand if I could, so if the Mighty Block is good, I could get one of those. Does it work for all the 1/60s? I was thinking about getting the VF-0S next, but I saw the collectiondx review saying it was too big for the mighty block. Anyway, any response would be appreciated.
  20. I've seen images of the 1/60 and it does look really nice. People have said it is going to be the definitive Valk, so I think I may take your advice and wait for a bit. Thanks for the input! I went to a hobby store and took a good look at the toynami 1/100s. I like the price point on these, but the quality seemed a bit weak. I think I should do a bit more searching. I think I may be better off spending a bit more for a better quality figure. Thanks for the welcome! Glad to be here
  21. Hello everyone, Newbie to Macross here. (Hopefully I have the right thread this time! ) I've watched the old Macross/Robotech series as a child and I loved it. I've recently returned to collecting and I have been really interested in revisiting some of these Macross toys. I had a Valkyrie from way back when, but now there are so many different brands and models, it's kind of hard to figure out where I want to start. I have been collecting Revoltech for a while now and I've got all the Macross ones (Valkyries and Regult), and now I want some actual transforming ones. I'm not a completionist, or scale collector, so none of that really matters to me. I am a size person, in that I don't really like huge toys clogging up my shelves. Prefer the smaller ones (articulation is important. Not interested in buying any bricks). I've been looking at Toynami's 1/100 Max and Milia Jenius Valkyries as a good place to start. I've heard the quality is pretty decent. Along with Wave's SDF-1, although the price on that one is kind of steep (wondering if it's worth it. Can grab it off Ebay for about $100 - $110). That's what actually got me really interested again, seeing that SDF-1, which I think looks fantastic, but can't make up my mind on. If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations, I'd love to hear it! Cheers, pud333
  22. Okay, no prob! thanks for the info. I'll post my question there.
