  1. Now that you mention it, F = m*a, meaning that a higher g limit could be meant to substain a heavier mass (the payload you mentioned) under the same acceleration. *cough* Yet Another Evangelion Reference *cough* FV
  2. Except in this case there are no weird numbers. I think the VF-25 has weaker armor, because even the FAST Packs appear to add more armor than usual. Other than that, I must note that we talked about manuevers within atmosphere, but in space you need vernier thrusters to properly manuever, thus a vernier thruster superiority is not to overlook. FV
  3. The Compendium mentions only backpack rockets for now. It's possible they are only multiporpuse hook/handles. Made by Hasegawa, which doesn't appear in the anime. While the VF-0 was a testbed for space technology, it doesn't necessarily mean it was ready for a space flight as it was. There were still valuable data about transformation, SWAG armor, etc. to collect meanwhile. We have maximum thrust, which means how powerful the engine are at maximum output, but there is no indication of how much time, however short, it will take to reach that output (in a short distance a F1 car can outrun a fighter). However this is my assumption and I think there are people here who knows better. From what I've understood though, thrust to weight ratio is still not a real indicator of the Gs that can be pulled during maneuvers. I used wikipedia to quickly gather some facts about this g-load force: a constant 16 g for a minute, however, may be deadly Resistance to "negative" or upward g's, which drive blood to the head, is much lower. This limit is typically in the −2 to −3 g (−20 m/s² to −30 m/s²) range. The subject's vision turns red, referred to as a red out. This is probably because capillaries in the eyes swell or burst under the increased blood pressure. It seems to confirm the realism of Macross Plus. FV
  4. This is real world logic. Anime logic it's simpler. And while vernier thrusters have never been described (as many other things *cough* reaction engines *cough*), they have been included in the stats list of all the main Valkyries, starting from the VF-1. For instance, the VF-14 Vampire: Two Shinnakasu-Daimler FF-2770D engines. P&W-Daimler HMM-5C high-maneuverability vernier thrusters. Of the two only official stats we have, the class of vernier thrusters is included. This fact is significant. Obviously, since the type of vernier thrusters has been overlooked for so long, it may be difficult at first to accept its importance, but search your feelings and you will know it to be true. That said, the performance of the fighter within atmosphere depends on many factors. Vernier thrusters are a lot more important in space, and this is why the VF-0 doesn't have them. The importance of G limits is not to be discarded either, although it must be noted that it means only the amount of stress the airframe is able to handle, but not how much the fighter is able to accelerate, for which there is no given statistic although the performance of the vernier thrusters could be significant about the potential ability to dodge incoming attacks. By the way, in the last scenes of Macross Frontier Alto's VF-25 appears wrecked. I believe it is meant to be interpreted that Alto actually reached the G limits of its plane (notice also the broken visor). FV
  5. Technically vernier thrusters can be used even when manuevering in air, like in the VF-17, but you are not seeing the point. Authors are not constrained to real world laws of physics. Kawamori designs new fighters without the need to think which shape of the wings and ailerons is more manueverable. He simply states the new fighter is the most manueverable thing ever and that's all. As such, what is the statistic that he would choose to point out that the degre of manueverability? Exactly, the type of vernier thrusters. Another example: VF-19 Custom: P&W HMM-6R VF-11MAXL Custom: P&W HMM-7Y VF-11D Custom: P&W HMM-7 VF-17T Custom: P&W HMM-6D VF-17: P&W HMM-6B VF-11: P&W HMM-5B See that each Valkyrie got vernier thrusters rated directly from their appearances. The VF-11 is a grunt, so it got the lousiest vernier thrusters. The VF-17 is better, but still under the YF-19 and YF-21. Sturdiest looking Valkyries such as the VF-17 and the VF-22 never reached 7. The VF-11D Custom is thinner than the VF-19 Custom, so it got better verniers. The VF-11 MAXL Custom is a thin hero unit, so it is rated even better than a VF-19. Sleeker units have higher numbers. It would be normal if unit built later have better vernier thrusters, but note that it isn't always like that. The VF-17T Custom came out later than the VF-19 Custom, but it has worse thrusters, ditto for the VF-11D Custom which came out later than the VF-11MAXL Custom. Simply stated, performance and appearance are the same thing. While it could be true, there is no point in inventing a statistic if it doesn't mean anything at all. Personally, I would think of the G limits more as an indirect sign of armor strength than a sign of manueverability. FV
  6. I think you are doing it wrong There is another number to look out for other than the G's. VF-25: P&W HMM-9 High maneuverability thrusters VF-22: P&W HMM-6J high-maneuverability vernier thrusters VF-19: P&W HMM-7 high-maneuverability vernier thrusters VF-19 custom: P&W HMM-6R high-maneuverability vernier thrusters YF-21: P&W HMM-6J high-maneuverability vernier thrusters YF-19: P&W HMM-6J high-maneuverability vernier thrusters FV
  7. My speculation is that SWAG means Stealth Wing Armor Generator. In Macross 3D (cancelled project) there was an experimental VF named SW-X1 (SW = Stealth Wing); while the concept of superior armor for Battroid wasn't new, Kawamori hasn't got a name for it for years, and presumably kept the first name he conceived. Technically, since the VF-0 all VFs are equipped with an active stealth system. FV
  8. shouldn't be already posted. The game it's called Little Big Planet, there is a level editor and someone did a level for Macross Frontier. FV
  9. A, B, C, D, E.... isn't F the sixth letter of the alphabet? FV
  10. Yeah, like Sheryl It's still not explained how her hair works. FV
  11. Moving hair is simply a cliché of anime. Nothing too bad. Mind that in the same anime we also got color-changing hair. FV
  12. Kawamori creates movies for things he couldn't put in the series. It's not about business, it's about leaving no regret. Anyway, I believe that with some needed tighter scriptwriting the movie could be a new all time classic. And people here are overemphasizing reusage of footage; while I don't think the design will be reinvented like in DYRL, Kawamori is always pushing what he can do with CG. FV
  13. I don't speak Japanese, but I can answer you. Basically, the kanji used for names can have several pronunciations. To complicate things further, tha same name can be written in several ways. 愛 as a name can be read as Aika, Aya, Izumi, Erina, Kanae, Konomu, Sara, Chigiri, Tsugumi, Naru, Nozomi, Hikari, Madoka, Megumi, Yuki, Yoshiki, or many other ways. By contrary, Megumi can be written as 恵久実, 愛実, 恵女, 瑪紅美, 愛来未, 愛幸, 祝, 井, 恵, or many other ways. FV
  14. I still think of it as a sexualization, because the character is aware of sexual implications. There is also the scene in ep. 2 where Alto copped a feel. To the contrary, naked spiritual projections, although disturbing to anime neofites, have usually no sexual implications at all. FV
  15. If you mean a climatic build-up, this was no Gurren Lagann. The climax though was very evident. The series was about not thinking with the head, so the climax was the point when . When I first saw Alto I actually thought he was manly, especially compared to other Real Robot protagonists. While in the series he is sometimes mistook as a girl, and he actually acted as one, I still think he was manly in his own way. I think it would have been more realistic if he cut his hair, especially since Kawamori has stated that he used a private military provider exactly to allow Alto to keep his hair. How come that Alto kept his hair even when he became part of the UN-Spacy? About the school antics, I am glad it was very limited. I appreciated better when they showed the damage to Frontier. I think it was done with female cosplayers in mind What reshaped my world view is not the current events and social attitudes, it's seeing how they are not really different from the past ones I enjoy different Valkyries I think CG has its own expressivity, although in nature it's different from the 2D one. The expressivity of CG for example is about lots and lots of small movements in a scene; you could do it even with 2D, but it was done and done. The goal is not to recreate exactly what you can do with 2D, but doing what it can be done better and (theorically) easier. FV
  16. Confirmed on 4chan, it's the Nadleeh Akwos. It has a Gundam face on the shield that detach and becomes a sword. FV
  17. Maybe Aquarion and its OVAs could be a good comparison. To give you an example, in the OVAs die different characters than the series (unlike DYRL). FV
  18. In this interview it is mentioned the common language on Frontier is a hybrid of English, Japanese and Chinese. FV
  19. Oh come on, piloting a variable fighter is a tough job but someone has to do it FV
  20. Can't watch em all I was referring to your comment when you say that part about naked pilots. And yes, Aquarion is a fine example of post-modern camp. It shows the ridiculousness in a concept taken as serious business. Too bad you still have to excuse camp these days. Anyway, try Super Robot Wars Z. If Aquarion doesn't satisfy even there then you are a tough customer I read wrong. I said new movie responding to "clip show". Yeah, I meant retelling Possibly anticipated by a short clip (20 min) which is an additional TV series episode featuring Klan Klan Anyway, there were never clip-fests. Macross Plus Movie Edition was the original project, which was turned into OVAs and then back to Movie. The OVAs of Aquarion did recycle some battle animations (at the beginning of the first OVA mostly) and the scenery of the base (there was no need to redesign it), but the bulk of the animation was new, and old scenes were enhanced. The new battle scenes are totally awesome. FV
  21. For the moment it looks like a live action movie with a basketball robot in CGI FV
  22. Eeew. Just eeew. I liked it better when the battles were won by the pilot and not by his mother So much lip service for a person who evidently never even read Frontier threads Finally, someone who reminds us that to be welcomed here you just need to love a Macross series. Or to be an admin That's for originals only. All further series are bound to the concepts of the original, thus they will never be groundbreaking again. It is the same for Evangelion and Gundam. FV
  23. Yet they talk about Escaflowne, whose source was the trip before Plus. I just think that Kawamori's direct involvement with Macross 7 (especially as a director) was relatively minor. FV
  24. Hey, it won both the Japan Culture and Art Foundation Award and the 23rd Cultural Broadcasting Foundation Award for 'Best TV Entertainment Program'. It is, to use words of someone else, the only biographical anime to emulate the artistic style of the person whose life it seeks to depict. The joke of Aquarion is that the Japanese word for "combine" can also be used with a sexual meaning. And all mecha shows have always used this word which sounds like "hide the sausage" to a normal person. This is not something you can emulate simply with naked people. Don't worry, to me it sounds like a new movie with some action scenes recycled just to be embellished further. It will be awesome. FV
  25. Criticism? Wasn't this the thing internet is about? There is always 4chan for that: Sheryl end: /m/ bitches Ranka end: /m/ bitches Altodies end: /m/ bitches Sky end: /m/ bitches Basara end: /m/ rejoices, then bitches FV
