  1. Sounds like fun but I will not be in Japan that week but I might be during May'n's 2nd Budokan concert. I have been meaning to ask you how do you go about getting tickets to this? I heard the last one sold out in a few hours. Since you got your hands on tickets I have been meaning to ask you for a while. Is it lottery or only open to fan club members?
  2. VF-19EF fighter is a dead ringer for Cyclonus. So far I like what I see of the YF-29 in fighter. Still need to see it in all modes and in color before I pass final judgement.
  3. Every moment of Macross 7 without a VF-22 on screen.
  4. The only thing that has "already happened" on Gallia 4 was both Ranka and Sheryl were raised there. They also both lost their families there on the attack eleven years ago that haunts Ozma. This happened long before in either movie or series continuity. Nothing on Gallia 4 from episodes 12-14 has happened yet.
  5. Michael is a secondary character. A movie has to focus on the main story. Time spent on character development of a secondary character would be a mistake. Imagine if Star Wars included a 15-20 min side story of Wedge Antillies at the expense of the rest of the movie. If Star Wars was a tv series that might work but not for a movie. As for Alto feeling more like a hero, this will all matter on perception of certain events and will vary but I will explain my point of view. First would be dashing Sheryl away from several vajra. The look on Sheryl's face and the way he cradled her head after darting into the alley showed her feelings of him as a hero. I smiled when Bera showed up to take Sheryl back. Instead of riding off with her knight in shining armor she is hauled back by her managers android through the sewers. Second was jumping between Ranka and Ozma when the red vajra went to attack, simple act of willing self-sacrifice with no chance of survival. Ranka did not need as much rebuilding as Alto and Sheryl. When Alto opened up to Ranka on the trolley it showed a pretty strong connection between the two. You have a feeling he probably would not have had that conversation with anyone else. There are two times Ranka thinks about telling Alto about her new life but each time she is haunted by the memory of the kiss Sheryl gave Alto. While Ranka has shown self doubt before these moments are very relatable. Back to the 'missing drama', you are still trying to compare the first movie of 2-3 to a complete series. This movie covers episodes 1-7 and has more drama than the series did to that point; spies, government cover-ups, distrust between both fleets, connection of Aimo. What drama did the series have at that point? The specific examples you are missing will probably be covered in the second and probably third movie along with more development of the prior drama.
  6. Having Sheryl being a diva for 12+ episodes then finally taking the time to explore her is not development. She is doing the same shtick over and over and you know and understand about as much of her as you did after the first episode. It is a lack of development for 12+ episodes and nothing more. I'd say it was not until episode 15 when they finally Sheryl some humanity. I think not giving the audience a connection to such an important character was a mistake.
  7. I never said they removed character development. To the contrary Alto, Ranka and Sheryl seem to be far more fleshed out and three dimensional. You can empathize with Alto more, he has more of a hero vibe. In the series he is either not paying attention to things around him or yelling at the top of his lungs when questioned. He seemed like he was fighting because he was an angry teen lashing out. It is also a lot easier to root for Sheryl. You can sense her pining for Alto and see her depression. In the TV series to this point she was a bitchy spoiled brat who only seem to chase Alto out of boredom. The drama you say is missing did not happen until episode 12 or later. This movie covers up to episode 7. For the same reason the love triangle is unresolved but at least Alto shows he recognizes it and sees how it is affecting both girls. That was about 1 hour into the movie. How long did it take for Alto to give any outward appearance he had a clue what was going on in the series? Even at episode 15 when both girls try to out do each other he still seemed to have no idea what was going on.
  8. You can also just go to the website of the group doing the subs http://www.thoranime.org/ I thought the movie did a great job on retelling and clarifying to relationship between the 3 main protagonist. As for 'missing content',no, alto did not make all 37 paper airplanes like we saw in the series nor did we see the walking talking fan-service job that is Nanase. Extra secondary characters are brought in as filler so the story can be stretched into a 26 episode series. Movies are more focused on the main characters with no need to stretch out a plot too long. Part of the reason Alto came across as idiot oblivious to Ranka's feelings was the the need to keep the triangle unresolved for 26 episodes. The feelings between all three seemed to progress at real time. The series sometimes felt like everyone was stuck in a time loop.
  9. I got the Thora subs. Their subs are excellent, imo the best. If you get a chance look for their release of Time of Eve as well.
  10. It would not be F-22's as those are for the Air Force only. Most likely F-18's with a small chance for F-35 JSF, since all action will probably be cgi... As far as the enemy most people look at China as a economic enemy not as a potential war zone. Kinda like how Japan was viewed in the 80's. If they don't go the random made-up middle easter country or Break-away-soviet-state route and went real world the only two options would be North Korea or Iran.
  11. It really was a coupe for the anime lovers here that US and Japan were put in the same region when the powers that be of media divided up the global markets. Would be interesting to know why a sliver of asia was put in the same region as North and South America.
  12. What are the odds of this baby being filmed and getting a bd release?
  13. I didn't know she played, another Yoko Kanno in the making? I also agree May'n is a cutie, she kinda grows on you with her constant smiling and positive energy. She may never be a mainstream jpop star but she definitely seems to love what she is doing. The flip side is she will always be a bigger draw in other countries as a anison star compared to most jpop artist. I can understand the smelly otaku comment. The other day I popped in to a random comic shop to see what some of my old favorites were up to. Walking in I was punched in the face with body odor so bad my gag reflex kicked in. I ended up walking out shaking my head cursing the 'comic-book freaks'. Yes, I went in there with the same nerdy desires as the rest but the lack of hygiene and personal grooming on display made me revolt against my fellow comic book nerds.
  14. A reply six months later! Just saw it on bluray and I must say Tochiro you are one luck man! One of the best concerts I have ever seen! You are right in saying this is the definitive May'n performance. May'n's (<-that looks weird) vocals have improved noticeably. Not a sound guy so I am not sure how to describe it but I would say her voice has more depth to it. She does not seem to be forcing the high vocal anymore would be another improvement. The production value seemed to be pretty high. In some case like May'n Space it felt like a Broadway musical number, and I mean that in a good way. It seems she still has the same band from May'n Act and they have improved as much as she has. I also think her newer material suits the rock/funk fusion feel of the band. Another thing I noticed was the lighting job was as good as I have seen. You would be surprised how much good lighting can add to the overall concert experience. In all cases I think the live versions on this disc are better than the album versions. For example Universal Bunny concert http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVBGxz1z7pA Universal Bunny from album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpPgI_3DSks The are many more that sounded even better live but Universal Bunny was the only song I could find clips of. I might do a per song impression later but right now I have to watch it one more time.
  15. May'n speaking the engrish at opening ceremony. A small clip from concert I found on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abVoigdPUPA May'n after joining the crips http://ameblo.jp/mayn-blog/image-10580370718-10621249563.html
  16. Does Anime Expo normaly release dvd's of the concerts and events? I would love to be there. I found out about May'n performing there more than just a little to late to make arrangements.
  17. Ep 25, about 2/3's in Quarter does the macross attack on Battle Galaxy's main gun.
  18. Get the girls from Scandal and do a loli rock band. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWXkk18NVf8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7LXWydfMY0
  19. I think they have Captain Bobby in charge of color quality control. At least for the Macross Quarter and movie VF-25 super pack. I'll have to disagree with you on the armored VF-25. It looks pretty impressive in person. I gave the armored parts a matte coat and I think they look pretty BA in fighter and battroid.
  20. Does HG have contractual agreements covering Australia?
  21. http://www.yesasia.com/us/1004021971-0-0-0-en/list.html There are more and more Japanese releases with English subs everyday. The chances are are not great but nor are they zero.
  22. I figured the per theater average would be huge. Now will they expand the release or are they just treating this as a limited big screen event for a movie intended for dvd?
