The big thing that the LE comes with is a Blu-ray edition of Flashback 2012 (plus a whole lot of printed extras). For me, even if the quality may not be that good (depending on the materials they had access to master it), having a copy of Flashback 2012 that'll play natively in my PS3 is worth it for me. Was dreading having to buy that seperately.

I wanna subscribe to the theory that II is a fictional show within the Macross universe. If memory serves, a couple of the vocal songs from II appear in the 7 TV series so one would assume it fits in somewhere, even though it's been officially denied as a part of the timeline.

So did anyone catch tonight's episode/season finale "Reincarnation?" In the third segment, I know I caught the "Alien Attack" theme from Robotech, the Battle of the Planets main theme, and some Voltron music as well. I know I'm missing some. Anyone else recognize anything else? What I'd like to know is how they got the rights to use all that music. That was pretty cool though. Best finale ever!

This particular game doesn't come out until April 14, which is probably why no one's commented much. The game itself should be easy enough to play; many people with no knowledge of Japanese can navigate the menus with the help of a menu translation guide, or those with basic katakana knowledge can navigate most of the menus. The game mechanics are easy to grasp as it's no different than many turn-based tactical strategy games (ex. Final Fantasy Tactics). The only thing you miss out on is most of the story, although if you've seen some or many of the series involved, it's fairly easy to follow. I only have basic Katakana knowledge and maybe learned only 200 or so Kanji in University, but I've been able to enjoy the other games regardless. For me, the appeal is in being able to play with so many robots from different series together in different scenarios, and the turn-based strategic nature of the game allows me to take my time and savor the game. Plus, with the games that have squadron support (ex. Super Robot Wars Alpha 3) I think it's cool that you can put an EVA and a few Valkyries in a squad, and then make the Valkyries throw support cover fire while the EVA goes in with its main attack. Of course, YMMV in terms of how you enjoy the game.

So Banpresto's making a sequel to the Super Robot Wars Z for the Playstation 2, but it'll be debuting on the PSP this time and in *two* parts. Interesting, looks like you can play in EX Gear as well according to the video. Looking forward to this one too. At this rate, there'll probably be at least one more game after the second movie comes out.

Well, the PS2 handled ACE games fine, so in terms of hardware processing power, the PSP can handle a game like this. It'll be interesting to see how the game controls work out, considering you're losing a pair of shoulder buttons and an analog stick. Still though, I'm excited! Going to pre-order this one as soon as it's available.

If and when you do decide to get a PS3, you can probably find a used copy of ACE:R for cheap. I have to say that the graphics and cut scenes look great though! They've really tried to mimic the look and feel of the TV series, at least when it comes to MacF.

I got this in the mail shortly after Valkryia Chronicles 2 came out, so I've been spending more time with VC2 in order to finish it first (and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep comes out next week, so I have no idea how I'm going to balance all these video games). I have played a bit of ACE:R though, starting with the Mac F campaign. I only completed the first scenario, but in terms of gameplay, it seems similar to the previous ACE games, so if you enjoyed those, you'll probably enjoy this. If your only exposure is to MAF and MUF and you're looking to play the Valkyries here, the control scheme is a little different and takes some getting used to (ex: switching modes also uses the right analog stick, although the directions are reversed from MUF; i.e. up for Batroid, down for Fighter). Also, I seem to recall being able to use missiles in Gerwalk mode on the VF-1s and YF-19 & 21 in ACE:2 and ACE:3, but it seems like on the VF-25, you can only use them in Fighter mode (although I do need to play more to learn the controls and glazed through the tutorials so I could be missing something). Weapon placement and choices in the various modes is different as well. However, the gameplay (at least with the Valkyries) doesn't seem as "fast" as with the PSP games (although Fighter mode seems to go too fast for me, in terms of movement, but I suck at fighter mode in all the games with Valkyries in them ), but again, it's like comparing apples and oranges as they're different games from different series and different studios. I haven't played ACE 2 or 3 in a while, but ACE:R in terms of gameplay speed seems to be about the same. It was fun though, for the little bit that I played. I'm definitely looking forward to playing through the MacF and Super Robot Wars OG campaigns, and I'll post more thoughts once I have time to do so. However, if you're looking for a similar experience to MUF, you might as well get the Macross F movie Blu-ray with Trial Frontier included; I'm pretty sure the experience will be the same.

Another problem is that (as of 2002) HG owns the trademark to the name "Macross" (at least in the US) as it applies to animation and books, so if there were to be a domestic US release, it'd have to be named something different, or a deal would have to be worked out with HG to use it. I'm pretty sure Big West wants nothing to do with HG at this point and would prefer to just ignore them, Western fan base be damned. Still though, I really can't understand why they can't include English subs on these Blu-rays and DVDs. It's not stopping me from buying them, but I find it hilarious that the MacF TV series Blu-ray menus are entirely in English.

Apparently this game has sold 189,000 copies so far. So at say $80 a pop, that's like over $15 million, if my math is right. That's a good thing for the franchise, right? Can't tell if there's a pre-order bonus. CD Japan doesn't list anything in regards to first press extras. HMV Japan seems to have the cheapest price right now (pre-shipping costs) if you take advantage of their multi-buy promotion. Amazon Japan has it listed, but unavailable for order. Yeah, thanks Keith. That sucks; had a CDJapan coupon I could have used too. Guess I'll be getting it from YesAsia instead. Shipping may take longer, but at least it's free and I probably wouldn't have time to play the game right away anyways (will be busy in October, plus I reckon I'll be playing ACE R anyways ).

There's usually some kind of story and plot behind it all, although sometimes they either ignore timeline issues, or they think up creative ways as to why everyone is in the same era. But the stories definitely don't end up canonical, kind of like those crossovers between Marvel and DC or Marvel and Image in the comic book world. I believe some of the writers in this particular game have come from the Super Robot Wars world (wasn't necessarily true for the other ACE games), so they definitely have experience in tying multiple storylines and continuities together. But if you can't understand Japanese, it doesn't really matter. In any case, ACE games usually have great gameplay, so even if the plot was lacking, you'd still have fun playing it.

Does anyone know if there a pre-order bonus for the movie like with the other Blu-rays? I'm waiting for it to show up at CD Japan or YesAsia, but it still doesn't seem to be up.

In this case, the author is using the term "subtitle" to mean "subordinate or additional title" and not translation captions. So for example, with the third X-men movie, the main title would be "X-men" and the subtitle would be "The Last Stand." Smoosh them together, and you've got "X-men: The Last Stand". The author of this article is saying that Bandai Namco trademarked "Triangle Frontier" explicitly, which may imply that it could be the name of the next Macross game (i.e. Macross: Triangle Frontier, kind of like Macross: Ace Frontier and Macross: Ultimate Frontier). The author is *not* saying that the next Macross game will be translated in English. Good find though! Based on this, I wonder if Macross: Trial Frontier is ultimately meant to be a demo for Macross: Triangle Frontier?

So I guess the big news revealed in PV2 is that Alteisen, Cybuster, and the ART-1 from SRW OG will be making it into the game! So cool. Can't wait for this!

Yep, although North America and Japan are in the same Blu-ray region (Region A) so at least Blu-ray discs from Japan should work in North America as well (not saying that the entire world consists of North America though, but it is a step up from DVD region codes).

I have this book. The song is in there, but it's a very simple arrangement. Just the melody in single notes using the Treble clef are given, no chords or anything like that. Nothing given in Bass clef. But if your guy can improvise chords to make it sound more complex, then this should be good enough to start with. Otherwise, it may sound a little simplistic; basically just a guy pecking at keys with one finger, sometimes two. I've been looking for a better book myself, more concentrated on piano arrangements (because I love the song), so I'm eagerly looking forward to answers to your request too!

According to here, the game comes out Aug 19 and those who reserve the game can get an unlock code for Z Gundam 3 (although supposedly you can also unlock it by playing the game, probably similar to the way you unlock mechs through the other games). It's already available for preorder on YesAsia, but not Play-Asia yet.

This new just made my day. Hopefully there'll be more series represented than the list in the current issue of Famjitsu. Seems weird to me that there'd be the VF-0 and VF-25 without all the other VF's in between. Must be more to come.
