I was just concentrating on the English translation, which was hard to parse because "their" could have been referring to either Alto & Luca, or to the general public (it was hard to tell from the context). However, looking at the raw Japanese, they use "も" as in "アルトやルカも" which would imply "as well."

I think that Pineapple Cake just has restorative properties in general. Not only did it ensure Ozma's survival, but it also snapped Ranka out of her trauma. In my opinion, they should have tried Pineapple Cake on the Protodevlin victims. That way, they might have recovered even faster!

You know, it just occurred to me that the only one who ingested anything remotely related to pineapples was Ranka. A portent of things to come? Although to be fair, it didn't look like she ingested a pineapple chunk, so maybe it's a false alarm and she'll be fine (then again, that could be why she said it didn't taste very good; she didn't eat the best part of the cake!).

No kidding. While waiting for the raw to come out, I popped into this thread to take a look at the the first few posts, but when I saw "Pineapple Salad" in the poll, I immediately closed the window to avoid spoiling myself. Then, when I saw the opening, I was like, "Oh crap, the only reason why they'd play a sugary-sweet, happy song like this is because they're going to kill someone off." Or that they were saving the 2nd main opening once the main cast changes have been finalized (because they were going to kill someone off). At this juncture, I don't know what to expect from this show anymore, and I love it! I wonder if this will be the first series where all of the main cast survives (*knock on wood*)?

I'm sure Ai-kun will lead Frontier's army of Vajra against the final enemy in the final episodes. I'm not that concerned. But this was an awesome episode, especially for an old fan like me. So many references and homages, it really is like a love letter to the fans. I honestly thought Ozma was going to bite it, and when the SMS song started playing, the first thing that came to my head was Kawamori sticking out his tongue, pulling down an eyelid with a finger and going "nyah, nyah, nyah nyah nyah!" Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that Ozma won't bite it next episode. Remember, Roy was admitted into the hospital after that last battle, and he probably would have lived if he had stayed there. There could be a chance that Ozma leaves the hospital prematurely next episode, for a little of Cathy's "Pineapple Cake"... And this episode really has me contemplating re-watching M7 all over again. Damn you, Kawamori! BOMBAA!

Personally, I'd rather them re-use well animated footage rather than outsource to a crappy, third-rate Chinese animation company, but then again, that's just me. I didn't even notice it was stock footage in this episode in my initial viewing, although re-watching it, I guess they did. But I really don't care. I'm still enjoying it.

I've always thought they'd kill off one of the singers and thought Sheryl was the perfect choice (bitchy person who was able to change, find a nice, happy outlook in life, etc, and then BAM!), but with the new ED, maybe she gets a pass. So I'm going to say either Mikhail or Klan. Unrequited love, and all that.

Well, to be fair, if Ai-kun is indeed a baby Vajra, then there's another example of a non-hostile Vajra.

Yeah, but didn't that Queen-like Vajra from Memory of Global have those purple crystals sticking out of her stomach? I'd like to think that that's where the crystals come from, but the real problem is having to fight all the army Vajra in order to get to the Queen. I wouldn't be surprised if this entire "war" was about who would get first rights to the Vajra as a resource and their abilities to bust through fold distortions. Sounds very much like Capitalism, and we all know that the Kawamori likes to work in environmentally friendly themes into some of his work. Would be ironic if Richard were the true bad guy, willing to do whatever it took to achieve his dream of instantaneous travel. Or maybe he's the good guy in that he isn't (as opposed to Grace), and that's what makes him different than the people on Galaxy.

So, I'm guessing the entire point of collecting Vajra is to harvest fold quartz? Anyways, love the new ending, and enjoyed this episode as well. Based on the preview last week with a grey-skinned, sick-looking Sheryl, I thought that she was going to kick the bucket, and when she started talking about "no, I don't want to go to a hospital or my hotel" when watching the raw, I honestly thought that she'd be the one eating Pineapple Salad at Alto's place. Anyways, have given up speculating, and am just sitting back and really enjoying the ride. Edit: Should say that I haven't seen the sub yet, so some of my details might be wrong. Watching the sub now.

Are you sure about that? It could be that Richard is just paranoid about security; doesn't necessarily mean he's explicitly anti-Galaxy or that he's aware of Galaxy's activities. It could just mean that the efficiency of SMS affecting Galaxy's plans are a coincidence; one that Galaxy didn't count on and now they'll have to do something about it. Also, not related, but the show did say that LAI developed the VF-25, correct?

^ To be fair though, that's one person's translation of the dialog. I still think when the voice said "homeland," what was really being referred to was the SDF-4 Global (or whatever it's called) and not Gallia 4 (or maybe the Vajra ships around it; who knows). Kind of like "A first generation Macross ship" vs. "The first generation Macross ship." Sometimes things get lost in translation.

Yeah, I think that once Sheryl saw how much effort Ranka was putting into her singing, she just decided to go along with it, have a little fun, and torment Alto a little. At least, that's how I interpreted the smile on her face when she decided to sing with Ranka. Of course, the duet is also present on the Formo version of What 'bout my Star? on OST1, so there were practical considerations to having them sing like they did as well.

No surprise there. This episode was pretty text heavy with lots of exposition, and a lot of it related to the overall plot lines. Probably will take a while to get everything right.

Loved it. Yes it was a clip show, but they explained a lot of the plot thus far as well as gave us a peek on what to expect in future episodes. From what I can see, . Japanese is rusty; will have to wait for a sub. And I really wondered how Ranka's version of "What 'bout my star?" on OST1 would fit in; I always thought it was taken from a collaborative concert. Guess I was wrong. Alto's one lucky $%#$%@#.
