Ironically, just last week but I started dozing off through Alien3... Ok, to be fair, it did give me some great hair ideas... but um... I'd rather not talk about that... My favorite scene has to be towards the end when Minmay says something like "*sigh* I guess I've got to get on with my life now." So much cheese...

I just flip on 5 minutes or so of 'Robotech II: The Sentinels' whenever I start thinking about how there should be a continuation to the Misa/Hikaru/Minmay story, and I'm right as rain. Some things just... aren't meant to be revisited.

I've got a Macross mega order coming when the Frontier BR #1 ships, and gotta ask... is the Triangler single even worth getting? The packaging doesn't really even look Macross-y from what I've seen, but I haven't really seen the inside. Kind of debating cancelling it out...

well thanks for the update, anyway. I honestly think I might stop watching Frontier at that point and just wait for his blog updates...

Has anyone been keeping an eye on Ranka's blog lately? Has it gotten any better?

I've got to go through Macross 7 again, but the last time I watched M7 OVA's and went back to Frontier it was too confusing. Like... why are there no sound boosters?! And where are the faces on these Valkyries?

I was honestly kind of bothered by the sheer level of desperation in his voice in episode 13... I think his seiyu did a really great job of conveying how helpless and frustrated he was then and there. LOL so true, so true... In DYRL Misa mentions that his family died when he was young and he grew up with no one but Roy really... although... I can't think of the SDFM explanation off the top of my head... I just remember he was in a flying (Itano?) circus... Anyway, if Ranka is TV Minmay and Sheryl is DYRL Minmay, Alto is just... Minmay. Fullstop. I'll flesh out my theory later...

...no? I have yet to see LoGH, so maybe it goes 'there', but that kind of epicness is kind of rare, far as I can think of... the only sprawling epic I can even think of that went all out with the aftermath was Children of Dune. They really did milk the triangle for all it was worth those last few episodes, though... I'm not really sure how I feel about that... but at least we got a little bit of an epilogue to Macross 7 in Dynamite 7. Battle 7 getting rebuilt, etc. Anyway, before I start shouting for OVA's and sequels and 2nd seasons I really wanna see how this season of Frontier ends. There's always the possibility I'll book a flight to japan with torches and pitchforks and be crying for Kawamori-san's head. For now though, come what may, I've got Frontier BR #1 on preorder so if they're waiting on DVD sales to evaluate an extension they've got my money.

It was successful when it aired tho... maybe they just cut extraneous episodes to make up for skipped weeks (and to milk OVA sales). Regardless, I haven't seen it anywhere that 7 was intended to be xx episodes and got extended... maybe it was intended to be 2 seasons from jumpstreet? On a slightly different topic... If SDFM hadn't been extended an extra 9 or 10 episodes, and taken the story where it did, I gotta wonder if it'd be the lasting franchise it is today. There's alot of great character and political depth in those last episodes, if they're a little bit short on action. Not that it wouldn't have been a great series, but... I don't think it would have felt anywhere near as 'real'.

I can't seem to find an answer to this question; but how many episodes was M7 originally slated for? I wouldn't mind a 10 episode arc chronicling the Vajra's integration (Meet the Applegates?) but considering how tight and the depth Frontier seems to have been laid out with so far I'd be worried about it feeling tacked on if they were to stretch it out... especially if they had to keep things going with the love triangle aspect.

I think I'd be hospitalized if I saw Frontier straight through. For that matter I may need to check myself in if we skip any more weeks. If there was a skip between 13 and 14 I think I would have needed therapy. Regardless, I'm loving the ride and wouldn't have it any other way, feels like I'm a kid again. I doubt I would have made it without an outlet, though; I tried to get some RT and Mac+ loving RL friends of mine into Frontier with mixed results... but there's alot of really cool peoples both here and on other forums I post at who it's nice to know are loving this ride as much as I am. And, besides, speculating and talking trash and coming up with asinine theories gives me something to do while I'm bored at work.

Maybe Ranka is the Danny Devito clone and Sheryl is the Arnold Schwarzenagger clone... I really need sleep.

So like... Did Brera turn on Leon/Grace? All we see is Leon squinting... that's so not telling enough...

You may want to check out the AnimeSuki Macross forum if you don't already; people over there have a knack for writing 1500 word essays full of lengthy character studies... although typically in the process of justifying why Sheryl should end up with Alto (or vice versa) instead of Ranka, and why anyone who thinks otherwise should... go to hell. Eh, it is what it is. Regardless, I can't really put Ranka and Luca's rescues in the same league, I think... Luca's rescue was mostly just brash recklessness... he just stormed in guns blazing and hoped for the best. But Alto knew exactly what he was doing with Ranka, and aside from a few yells here and there, he was pretty rational and calculating all the way through. I mean, hell, he asked for permission! As far as why; I dunno, you can throw archetypes at him and call him tsundere or some such and... maybe it comes down to his mom. It seems like from the start he's had kind of a resentment of the people around him. Michael in episode 9, Sheryl pretty much all the time... in an earlier episode he's kind of pissy towards Ranka (or probably the world) when she gets Ozma's permission to work with Elmo... seems like he's making progress relating to the people around him in non-life-threatening situations anyway...

So, now that I've seen the subs and actually watched the episode not in a tiny window @ work... * I don't get people who are complaining about the pacing. This episode was a wet dream for my adult ADD. * Raramia got f'ed up. So did island 1. Good excuse for rescheduling Ranka's First Live... * Alto was so happy to see Sheryl and Michael alive. * The reunion didn't last long... sorry Sheryl. * I half expected Alto to bitchslap Sheryl on the way back out to save Ranka and tell her to sing. * VF-171 is badass. Daedalus attack! * Sheryl taking over the blue VF-25 was perfect, music and all. * Sheryl just may be a better combat pilot than Luca... * Michael will not be happy when (if?) he wakes up. * LucaXNanase = win * Ranka is the rocket queen * Alto + Brera = bff?

...I just went to Robotech.com and feel dirty... I'm a sucker for this place and AnimeSuki though. Anyway, wild speculation time. And, I really hope I'm horribly wrong and this doesn't end up happening...

I love Shinsen's translation of the Nyan Nyan song... "Girl! Girl! Girl! Girl!" Out of all the groups translating Frontier I think Shinsen's the worst as far as the pop-up video goes, and aside from a couple of instances they're not bad at all. edit: aside from f'ing up Totsugeki Love Heart which is almost unforgivable.

...you know, at one point I honestly wondered if they were spoofing Robotech to some degree with that... although I just kind of brushed it off in the end. It helps that in episode 13 Ranka is talking to Alto in the 3rd person though. I still think the subtitle should read "Oh, Alto!!" for every time she said Alto-kun there though. That video is comedy though, although I think it's a stretch to apply it to that many fansubbers. TBH, aside from the glittery graphics, I think the Animeone Aquarion (which they pull examples from) was better than the Funimation DVD release. I'm still learning Japanese, but I am fluent in Spanish and have seen professional TL's just take too many liberties to where it makes sense in English but doesn't really do justice to the original wording. on that note, I should go back to the Japanese books.

I think what the fansubs need (as well as any future dubbing of Frontier) is a repetition of Ranka, or maybe even Sheryl saying "Oh, Alto(kun)!!!" at least 11 times an episode. Even if it's not in the dialog. I kid, I kid. As long as the context is there I'm happy, but sometimes I have to question the choice of wording some fansubbers use.
