  1. Part of me wonders if there was an intentional effort to almost shadow develope him considering he is so straight up and boisterous about everything else.
  2. The YF-29B is the blue NUNS variant used by the antagonist in the Macross 30 game. The YF-30 is a match in many ways to the 29, after all it is the hero mech in Macross 30 that fights the 29B. What is important is that the VF-31 is derived from the YF-30 but the 31 is in no way in the same level as the 30 and 29.
  3. It's a discussion forum, people share opinions here, both sides of the coin. If people aren't allowed to voice disagreement than they shouldn't agree either. We'd have nothing left to talk about then. Plus sarcasm is like life for some of us lol.
  4. Well yeah, though oddly I was thinking about Gamlin when I wrote that. Not for anything specific either, just popped into my head for some reason (Gamlin kick!). But yeah Basara is pretty easy to anticipate, but I do feel you get to know him on some level over time in a way that is entirely non exposition based.
  5. Well, I wasn't saying that much, lol. I'd love to get in on that, sadly to save money re: accommodations I'm basically driving down to Torrence the morning of the con (I live like 3 hours away) so I'll likely not be available when you do this screening unfortunately (plus I have work the day before anyway).
  6. It's worth your time to continue, as Seto has said, the plot doesn't really kick in until after episode 20 or so... and then it really does start to get going. You are right though, early individual episodes basically are just character building. Once plot takes center stage, you'll like that the characters are fully fleshed out and you don't have to worry about who they are as much anymore (you'll even get to expecting what certain characters might do, because you /know/ them). It is not entirely the best way to do it (Frontier paced it way better and got a similar result) but it does end up working at least. As for why nothing seems to be done in regards to the ongoing crisis.. a lot of comes down to politics and bureaucracy, something often skipped in most shows of this type. Max can't just do anything he wants militarily because the civil government (aka his pissed off separated wife) gets angry. While it seems Milia tends to be unreasonable given the situation, she isn't ignorant, though they do tend to forget to tell you that (they do show later properly she still has that Zentradi warrior inside her, it's just been swapped out over time with being a mother to her daughters and a leader to her people). She has to make a lot of tough choices about how to safeguard the civil populace. Max doesn't deal with that at all, he has no oversight there. It seems by the time of Frontier (and the NUNS), some fleets opted for a more unilateral President who is in charge of both civil and military matters rather than separate like 7 did. That may solve a lot of issues shown in this series, but taken as it is, it kinda makes sense. As for the Flower Girl, she's a big fan of Basara and wants to give him flowers. That's all (not even joking, that's it).
  7. Well in terms of colony-grade fighters overall performance yes (Obviously anything the Federal NUNS fields is always gonna be tops, whether it be VF-24 or anything else they full spec). This is one thing another fighter beats the YF-29 in, but it does not mean the YF-29 is immediately less capable than the 262. Seto points out well that the 262 is way too overspecialized for aerial use. The YF-29 can work in all mediums to a crazily high powered degree even if it's ISC can't budget quite as much G's, lol. Good pilot will deal with it. Could it be you were thinking of how we discussed the Drakken's Fold Reheat system is like a poor man's Fold Wave system that the YF-29 and VF-31s have? Has no bearing on pilot resilience but that much is a true thing at least.
  8. I mean I do really like Plus, especially in the movie format... but Kawamori said it himself about it: "It's a serious story with a silly plot." So yeah... for all the love it gets and deserves to a large degree... it's not really the apex of Macross storytelling we often hold it up to be.
  9. The show implies it is pretty much just lack of skill for anyone that isn't an aerial knight. It's shown a lot that NUNS pilots, historically cannon fodder, can beat them easily. This is why Windermere needed to use mind control.
  10. For the record Seto, I don't agree with the idea of Delta inspiring people to think M2 is better than they thought. It shouldn't take a flawed show to convince people to accept something older. I framed the idea as a joke for that reason. I myself have no direct opinion on M2 as I have not taken the time to watch it fully. I've only seen bits and pieces. Delta would not influence my view of it at all.
  11. There are a lot of M2 similarities there it almost seemed like SK was intentionally going for that actually. The joke almost being that Delta finally made people respect Macross II (Seto is happy at least), lol.
  12. Well this was before M7 (though only just slightly) which was his true return to Macross in his eyes. Before Plus was Macross II which didn't involve Kawamori at all. So he'd been out of the franchise since DYRL basically. It was just that one show and a movie at the time, not this massive franchise we see today.
  13. I don't think either really, but I'm not the expert on that (he comes in later, lol, we know who I mean). I do know however that Macross Plus was not originally a Macross title. Kawamori was writing a story to be something different (just happened to have transforming jet robots too I guess), but either couldn't secure funding or something else and basically agreed to make it a Macross thing to get it made, and everything else related to any sort of canon (not that SK really worries about such things) was filled in after the fact. This is why M+ ends up being so unique in Macross stories... it wasn't written to really be Macross at all.
  14. Well second time you did, first time you said on par.. that's not the same thing, lol. I can't pass judgement since I can't see the movie yet but it sounds like it doesn't one up the show much and well... that's not the best news, lol. However it helped the franchise back in it's home and the future continues. That's all that matters to me right now. (But even though I can't rate the Delta movie, the Frontier movies are amazing in my eyes with how well they told a redone story for their medium. I do prefer the overall story of the series but the movies just presented so damn well.)
  15. Doing my bi-monthly check in here.. looks like 31A's are still in limbo for some.. good lord... but glad things are progressing. I kinda completely ignored the 31S release, heh.. but I only ever wanted the 31F and A anyway. I don't know yet if I want supers for 31A.. if they're even being planned.. but I suspect an armored pack might happen... but not sure if I want that either... I'll have to see it in action in the movie, but not sure when I'll get around to that.
  16. I mean, really back in Frontier the Armored Messiah might as well have been the embodiment of the quote: "You throw a nuke down a bug hole, you got a lotta dead bugs!"
  17. Oh myy.. you mean I might actually have the chance to meet one of my techie friends from here? I don't really know anyone from here of course, but at least I'll pseudo-know some people, lol.
  18. I could look, but I suspect the price for this movie, as movies often are when they're Japanese imports, is rather high. So.... someone please tell me if it worth the money. The official subs are already a great bonus of course, but even so.
  19. I wrote that before coming home from work, here is more info about the single release: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2018-07-21/macross-frontier-sheryl-ranka-release-1st-new-single-in-7-years/.134512 As said it comes out Sept 26 and has the new songs "Good Job!" and "Ranka to Brand New Peach" (it's what the site says..) as well as "Gooorgeous."
  20. Welp, bought my ticket, first Macross con for me. Looking forward to it!
  21. Good a thread as any. I know the Blu-rays of the Frontier movies have official English subs, though I don't own them so I couldn't direct you to the correct purchase page, which I don't know if we can do anyway here. The series as far as I know has no official English subs. For English subs of the Frontier series it's all fansubs. Delta was the first series to get a release with official English subtitles.
  22. The line was very blurred, it is likely most of them only have a human brain left and the rest is a biosynthetic form. As for who's left, it depends on show vs movies. In the movies the entire Galaxy leadership is killed but in the show it's just Grace (though she may have had all of Galaxy's leaders in her head too.. it's unclear) but the main island of Galaxy did apparently escape or was never found. In the movies we see most of the Galaxy leadership is literally in these pods keeping what's left of their bodies alive while they operate the ship as a collective entity with their minds, it's possible most of them can't live as normal humans anymore. There is also that business where Manfred Brando is part of the whole thing, or what's left of him but I'm not as versed in that subject.
  23. Well the important point here is, Galaxy's leaders were not AI, they were cybernetically augmented humans that has almost entirely stripped away their humanity. Most of Galaxy's citizens were like this (Sheryl was an exception), to the point where the corporate government has mindslaved all of them because of those implants and augmentations. As for AIs in general, the UNG/NUNG did put severe restrictions on AI after the Sharon Apple incident indeed... though Sharon herself was an illegally augmented AI to begin with using the Ghost's bio-neural chip. They put limiters on all Ghost drones hence forth.... though these limiters apparently could be removed as Luca does in the final battle against Galaxy, at least briefly. Galaxy did also have Ghost fighters but it is likely those AI were as much slaves to the leaders of the fleet as the people were.
  24. Definitely give light coverage and maybe speculations at first. Light enough that it might not even impede slow roll out of older info if possible I'd say.
