  1. This is basically the sin of most of the main cast it seems. Someone does something with a "Screw the rules, I'm doing what's right" mentality but they really aren't doing anything but making themselves and maybe their personal friends feel better about themselves while impeding people trying to actually help. The entire series can basically be reviewed as NUNS saying "Told ya so." when everything keeps getting worse. Meanwhile our 'heroes' can sleep at night because they made sure everyone heard how upset they were NUNS lit off a reaction warhead on Ragna, or that they wanted to use dimensional weapons instead of singing. At least in Macross 7 there was enough reason to assume singing was actually a better call for fighting the Protodeviln than just blowing them up (though they did try that too, and only really Basara had any issues with it) because that was the way to ultimately stop them. In Delta, sure they could undo the effects of the ketchup song but when you can just solve the whole thing at once with military action where singing was really just a stalling tactic... NUNS was right that time.
  2. Well, lol, you'd be right, but SMS actually cheated a bit so they didn't have to release the specs for the mech and the fold dimensional resonance system if I recall correctly. The mech was given the YF designator as if it was intended to be a prototype for a later system that never existed (apparently NUNS law didn't require prototype specs to be released). No doubt the NUNS eventually caught on and that is why the specs for the base unit were available for Surya to use for the VF-31.
  3. It's because the YF-30 is a departure in base design and was just made as a tech demonstrator for an updated form of the fold wave system. The choice to use it as a base for a production design came later and wasn't initially intended where the YF-25 was always meant to lead to a VF-25. It wouldn't be surprising to learn there was a YF-31 intermediate step but we haven't seen one.
  4. Mostly a bunch of implications. It's generally assumed they made a VF-24 and it is implied to be stupid powerful because it's full spec. No details exist but due to the kinds of tasks the YF-24 was designed to be able to do (quick fold booster equipped jumps behind enemy lines to unload pure death before jumping out to safety) it can be assumed the VF-24 can do such things and does against Zentradi fleets.
  5. It's clearly a distinct class. What isn't known is if it is one of a kind or a series. It appears to be somewhere around 1/3 to 1/2 the size of a Macross class.
  6. I could have sworn Seto broached this already in this thread, but it might have been in the newbie questions thread most recently. He'll give you a low down on what we do have, but I know from reading his list already that it's... not that much. We have details.. but some conflicts, and in general far less than we got with the VF-25. Even though there is a Master File for VF-31, according to Seto it was surprisingly bare on hard data and mostly covered the Siegfried customs Xaos used and almost ignored the Kairos. All of which is a real shame.
  7. Not to mention that in that same episode he also walked across the outside of his ship in the VACUUM OF SPACE for several minutes without dying or losing consciousness. The dude is no joke.
  8. That's not surprising to hear. Like said, it's mainly an engineering issue.
  9. I suspect this is more Otech than not, but it is certainly something that could be useful in reality, and is theoretically possible. It's an engineering problem more than a scientific one I suspect. Inb4 Seto's super explanation, based on my own engineering knowledge the AFC probably manipulates boundary layer forces of the air that flows across the airframe and wings to provide an increase in lift forces and decrease in drag forces to enable even more efficient flight, which could allow even faster movement in atmosphere. Even with positive lift being generated every square inch of an airframe is subject to small forces due to the friction of air. In modern aerodynamics models aircraft designs are meticulously optimized at this left to try and decrease the effect of drag as much as possible within design and cost constraints but in reality there is only so much that can be done with the design of the structure. The AFC in VFs probably manipulates the air flowing around the plane itself through a variety of means such as the verniers you mentioned. I doubt this is something in use by anything modern as it would be technically difficult and expensive even if we could manage it with modern tech. I do think it could be done eventually though, and wouldn't be surprised if it was an area of research already. After all, stuff like this is probably what super secret aircraft research groups do (like Area 51 maybe) but it would be classified if so since it could potentially create a massive tactical advantage in our air fleet over other countries.
  10. To be fair, not only was the scissor maneuver overused... it was even lampshaded in the show with Messer critiquing other people on how to do the scissors better in one episode, lol. They practically forced us to pay attention to that one maneuver like it was the only one they knew.

    Uta Macross!

I meanwhile, still lv 17 and have started to lose interest to be honest. I like it all just fine but... I've got a lot of other things to keep my attention, lol. I guess I never saw this game as something big to me anyway.
  12. Partially yes, Yes, and no in that order. To be clear, and I know Seto's keyboard will ache out a full explanation later, The Siegfried is basically an ace custom modification of the Kairos done by Xaos with improved performance (I can't recall if they actually have a different engine, they might), altered physical characteristic such as the FSW and the smaller canards that result for higher maneuverability at low speeds, and the fold wave system of course. What makes it a Siegfried is all of that and what it was designed like that to do (namely provide air combat support to the tactical sound unit Walkure). The Siegfried is not an official model and the Kairos is in fact the only version of the VF-31 that would be mass produced (which supposedly is Brisingr NUNS plan).
  13. Just wait... we get happy that they'll redo the battle scenes but what they really mean is they are replacing all the shots of planes scissoring into shots of them... scissoring in the opposite direction! lol
  14. As I keep looking at the display pics on the VF-31A in fighter mode I can't help but thinking the vertical stabilizers aren't quite right. Could be a product of the sloppy transformation that's been noted but they look too straight. On other VF-31s including my 31F they are canted inward just a bit (in amusing contrast to the YF-30 which although not fixed like the 31 stabilizers are meant to be canted outward in fighter mode). Is it perhaps due to the fact the 31A has a delta wing instead of the forward swept wing? I only ever saw that the only mechanical difference due to that was the larger canard.
  15. True what Seto said, but I have seen people on this very forum (no specific names that I remember though) who have said they disliked the movie versions. I suppose it helps I was always #TeamSheryl even in the show so the movies definitely validated my opinion, lol. This is at least one thing we can at least hope for in the Delta movie, that Mirage might at least get more of a chance to be part of the triangle. However it is unlikely Freyja won't still win and with the focus seeming to be on Walkure I fear Seto may be right again that people like Mirage may just become background. Add in that Kawamori didn't even want a triangle in this show in the first place (and boy does it show), and it is easy to believe the movie version might just not bother with the pretense.
  16. The show was pretty successful in Japan (especially when it comes to launching Walkure), but it didn't top Frontier which was a bit of a surprise hit as it was. Honestly, this is what I expected. It's the same thing as the Frontier movies did. I am one of the few that actually liked the reworked Frontier movie story better than the shows (but I still like the show, and the canon is certainly some weird cosmic mix of the two like SDFM and DYRL does). So all in all I think this is a good thing and hopefully this version of the Delta story will be better written (it certainly will have better pacing). That all being said, at least one new song?! Frontier movies had entire new soundtracks practically, lol.
  17. Yes, because the ones we saw were the ones produced for Macross 7, an emigrant fleet government. As Seto explained, they will get lower technology versions of anything Federal is capable of having.
  18. Frontier NUNS would get a monkey model compared to the Federal NUNS (read: Earth) because a colony can't have something as good as the people in charge. That's how things work in the NUNS. It is more obvious post-decentralization but it always happened. You can be sure even the stuff Macross 7 fleet got was less powerful than what the Federal Forces had at the time. This is why it's almost a certainty that the federal VF-24 (or whatever they might move onto later) is a monster of overpowered specs compared to any VF-25, 27, or 31 (with the YF-29 being the only thing to come close).
  19. I'm likely pretty ignorant on all the details but it seems to me it is better that it is a TWE. Certainly easier to preorder...
  20. Now that the fear of missing it is gone I went ahead and placed an order at CDJapan to take advantage of the pay later ability. However before the deadline ends I might decide to go for one of the cheaper up front options when I have the money to burn, heh. One way or another I'll get it.
  21. Thanks, that makes me feel better cause I was woefully unprepared for this. I did try to rush through a cdjapan order but it was having trouble with my card for some reason and I'm far too tired to figure it out now. Their delayed payment is ideal but the prices elsewhere may make me reconsider if I can still order after my next payday.
  22. Well this came as a shock to me in the early morning. I didn't expect this to be up for preorder so suddenly.... I don't have time to read 3 pages of posts, is this regular or exclusive? If I miss it today will I have trouble later? Can I preorder without paying up front anywhere?
  23. See "Do You Remember Love?'s" Minmay shower scene, and Macross Plus: Movie Addition Lucy topless scene. Both are short, but basically to the same level of what we saw in Macross Zero. Movies and OVAs can get away with that unlike shows. More importantly, it's a cultural thing too. Japanese aren't as prudish about nudity as Americans (especially when it comes to female breasts). Sure they don't go around in everyday locations showing off, and your standard TV shows (or anime such as the primary Macross shows) won't have it but it's not uncommon in late evening broadcasted stuff. This is even true in Tokusatsu genre shows (the same genre as Super Sentai, aka the source material for Power Rangers) where more adult themed shows won't shy away from one episode or two of nudity (see the Garo franchise for an example).
  24. Seto is right there, just compare intact Protoculture devices. There is the ship on Windermere but they IMO pales in comparison to the Bird Human which was not only powerful beyond measure but appeared to be fully sentient (or at least sapient). That it was designed to mimic the Vajra which themselves are considered worthy of worship by the Protoculture. Then there is the Evil series weapons which are possessed by the Protodeviln and were practically unstoppable by any normal means. The Protoculture were seriously advanced, likely borderline Kardashev Type 3, but at least high type 2. Humanity by Delta is Type 1, with a good chance of scratching the surface of 2 within a century of they keep pace.
