IMO Satelight was doing an awesome job with this OVA, is this something common in the industry? the switching between companies in the middle of a production? It could be anything, who knows. As a Macross fan, I'm hoping the reason behind this decision's related to a future or current Macross production, something along the lines of "Satelight does Macross full-time" until we know for sure I think there's room for speculation, I'm certainly crossing my fingers, we might be in for a surprise announcement after Macross Frontier finishes airing.

It'll look a lot better, even some of the raw releases suffer from macroblocking, so a true HD source should look jaw-dropping.

I never let my opinion on the animation/quality of the episode get in the way of me liking or disliking the show, I don't mean to tell anyone what to do, but I dont think people should be voting negative on an episode because the animation took a hit. As for the Blu-Rays, who knows really, they havent announced a US release, and the Japanese releases don't have english subs as far as we know, they didn't mention subs on the press release, so it's safe for us to assume they wont have any, we can always hope though. PS3? get it, it's the best over-all Blu-Ray player on the market, and at that price point is a no-brainer really (plus you can play games! lol).

Nice summary, I agree on most of it, the only thing I disagree on is on the fight choreography, I still don't think it's on the same level as Itano's work on Zero, pretty damn close, but not there yet we're still only on episode 8 though, so there's plenty of time. As for the actual mecha work, Satelight is raising the bar, period.

This episode made me really sad, I can deal with quality drops due to budget, but in this episode they took way too many liberties with the character design, one thing is for the art to lack detail, and one thing is for it to look different from the original designs. On the bright side, looks like Satelight is still handling all the backgrounds in-house, they still look completely gorgeous, especially some of the shots towards the end of the episode.

I had a lot of fun with this episode, even though it was pretty much just comic relief after last week's mecha-pr0n marathon, it might seem meaningless but IMO this is the first straight up "funny" episode we get, which adds to the mix. I enjoyed the change of pace.

I completely agree with you, and understand what they are doing with the budget they have, also I couldn't be happier with the balance that they have achieved so far when it comes to all the elements put together, but I also still think that pointing something out and discussing it is getting confused with whining for the sake of whining. Believe me, when the Blu-Rays comes out, I'll be more than happy to spend my money on them, I may not be as active as other posters on the board, but I'm sure you'll find plenty of praise from me on each of the episode threads. I've loved every episode so far, but it also happens that I enjoy discussing the production of the show, at the end of the day it doesn't matter if one shot looked better than the other, what matters is that the show is kicking a$$ (so far), but just like people think that some are over-reacting by "whinning", I think some others are acting overly defensive over something that doesn't need to be defended.

Exactly right, this type of exposure is what Frontier really needs to improve it's chances of making it outside Japan. I haven't checked the News thread but if you haven't already, should definetly post it there, thanks for the link!

The use of asteroids is the same as the use of clouds in Zero, you need something relatively static to put as a background agaist the VF's to convey a sense of speed for the viewer, imagine watching the VF's flying full speed against an empty background, no matter how fast they were going your eyes couldn't really tell the difference between fast or slow, since there's nothing to compare it to. Of course this is not the only thing they use to show speed, but it's one.

Of course, I think anyone that visits this boards is more than happy on how well MacF is doing on all facets, whether is music, ratings, etc. I think the problem is that people confuse this discussion and think we're "hating" on it, and feel the need to defend something they like, but it's really not needed because we're really far from doing that, some criticism may be harder than others, but the point of this thread is to exchange different types of views and opinions, not too "hate" on MacF. I think some people may be getting ahead of themselves about ep8, yet we still have a whole week to praise ep7

I agree, Frontier is nowhere near average IMO.
