  1. I looked into getting "pans" made for an intake manifold I have. 18x15x3 or so. It was going to be 25K for the mold. Not too bad considering it was Nylon 6/6 GF30 which isn't exactly cheap. My problem with this application is that I don't know anything about durability. And no one has FEA models for positive displacement superchargers. So I either get the mold done and knock a few units out to test. Or just go into production and cross my fingers 5yrs down the road they don't fall apart. I went with no injection molding. Too bad. The part would have been much better and WAY less expensive to produce if it were injection molded.
  2. Nice. I hadn't gotten far enough in my fantasy to think about color yet. But yeah, ano would be good. My current ano shop is great. Their hard ano is almost bulletproof. I agree. I don't think you could go 100% metal. Some stuff would have to be plastic. That and die cast would be new frontiers for me. I don't do any injection molded stuff (I've looked into it though). I've never considered using die cast for anything.

  4. It would take a 5 axis machine and a lot of time for sure. It would be stupid expensive. I'm not even sure if all the parts could be assembled without noticeable fasteners. No "snap together" stuff in aluminum. Paint rub could certainly be an issue. I really haven't gotten any further than thought concept.
  5. I'm a designer/engineer by trade. My company deals with completely different product though. I'm itching to a do a toy some day. It will be years though. I'm really busy. I want to do a 1/35 (or bigger) VF-1S in all aluminum (maybe few plastic bits and bobs). Right now the plan I have floating around in my head is tension adjustable joints to deal with the weight. So adjustable that they can actually be locked down once in position. To me (at least right now) that seems like the best solution.
  6. I'm curious too. I bought the stupid expensive Flame Toys Prime. I'm not willing to drop that kind of money on the others. I would mabe get a few KO's though.

    Bandai DX VF-31

I actually scored a YF-30 just a few days ago. I have another cabinet to set up which will take a few days and then my next batch of YetiStands will arrive. I'm looking forward to getting some stuff un-boxed and displays dialed in.
  8. With some next level YetiStand trickery I think you can get two SV-51's in Fighter mode in one Detolf cube.
  9. Yes sir you did! The Cronos is here. Haven't taken a pic.
  10. I didn't think to actually look for it. Duh. So how tall is that in 1/100? Same size as a MB Gundam?
  11. It's not just the toy industry. I'm having a hard time with a few of my suppliers because they get aluminum out of China. My wallet is going to take a beating this year.
  12. Yeah, that's awesome. I hope I don't miss the PO.
  13. I had the 1/48 GBP and I have the 1/60 GBP. I liked how the 1/48 looked for the most part but it's articulation wasn't nearly as good as the 1/60. And man that 1/48 was just finicky. The 1/60 IMO is a much better piece of engineering. And me saying that is saying something. I like the 1/48 size a LOT more than the 1/60's. I kept the 1/60 in my Hikaru display and sold the 1/48. My fingers are crossed for Bandai to make a good 1/48 GBP some day.
  14. They will make it # 110
  15. Fair enough. Maybe I would be more content if entertainment did just the littlest things to explain why their female protagonist is capable of what they're doing. Again, for me it's a messaging thing. If I had a daughter I would explain to her what she is seeing is fantasy and why it's fantasy. I wouldn't my daughter finding herself in a bad situation because she was under the mistaken impression that her size, strength and skill level could handle it. I think I had mentioned previously that a lot of people say that the "supermodel" ideal that is girls are bombarded with is not healthy for them. Somewhere on the spectrum of "it's not an issue" to "it's a big problem" is where I lie on that. I don't see the unrealistic physical capabilities are any different. And just because I like to debate. Explain Black Widow. She frequently takes down multiple trained killers that are double her size. That is fantasy on the level of magic it's so absurd. The extreme example to "prove the rule". That is absolutely sending the wrong message.
  16. I was referring to Dani. Specifically in the future where she took those three guys down. And the aforementioned shotgun scene. I don't buy the whole "fantasy" reason for this sort of thing. Yes, it's a fantasy. But grounded in reality/technology. Even if it's "future" tech. A 100lb girl that works at the Ford plant? Nope, not buying it. One, it's annoying because it's not at all believable. Two, for the incorrect message it sends to girls/women. I agree that having a ton of skills goes a long way. But, at the end of the day size (and sex 90% of the time, sorry ladies) is a big factor. Going up or down two weight classes in MMA is a big deal. A whole 20lb. We're talking about situations where the body weight is double. I can tell you from experience, when I was heavy into judo when I was a kid there was a point where technique stopped working. That was long before you got to double your body weight. Look up the video's of Rhonda Rousey talking about guuurrrlll power. She shut that crap down real quick when the guuuurrll power people tried to make her their poster girl. She was the best female fighter on the planet (and used the style you see in movies) and she will be the first to tell you that men have a huge advantage. Even the ones that weigh the same.
  17. I'm not a fan of the 1/48 GBP. Love the 1/60 Too bad there aren't any Woodland SSP's. Not that they would make any sense.
  18. Thanks!
  19. Maybe it's just my industry talking but don't trust=junk. Sorry if I put words in your mouth. As far as trusting goes there is a very easy solution. Apply some QC (quality control) next time. If you can't break that elbow with your fingers, it won't break with the weight of a Valk. I just tested this on a scale (because I was curious). With only using my thumb and pointing finger I can apply 26lb of force without straining. Granted, I have pretty strong hands. But even half of that is a whole lot more force than a Valk will exert on the part.
