  1. Huh. Having lawyers step in to help and resolve broken contracts is nothing new. It seems that Disney is trying to hide behind the pandemic and claim that their original pre-pandemic contracts absolve them of renegotiating with employees for services rendered and factoring in the profits gained from its SVOD service—a service that they have publicly announced, multiple times now, they are using to release new movies. This will be an interesting case to watch. If it goes in Johansson’s favor, I could see it opening up the field for other such cases. Not just other actors but also including groups of normal contract employees. That could get messy if the studios don’t get in front of it. Yeah. It reminds me of the audiobook SNAFU the publishing industry created for itself when that technology became popular. There were a number of bad contracts made that had to be updated back then and lawyers got involved too. The cases covered author royalties, licensing fees, actor royalties for those reading the books, and so on.
  2. I might be getting used to them. But this part of the series also introduces the Maximals and the Predacons. I don't have as much of a connection to the original Beast Wars voice actors since the show was running when I was an undergrad. I only caught bits and pieces of it with friends back then. I didn't watch the full BW series until much later.
  3. Ok. I have to walk back my criticism of WFC: Kingdom. Even though the trailer didn't impress me, the series itself has been fun. I'm still getting used to the new voice actors, though. HaHa! I guess I have too much G1 nostalgia running through my veins.
  4. You won't get an argument from me. My understanding is that future noir and tech noir are considered the same sub-genre of science fiction. https://www.ylem.org/Journal/2003Iss02vol23.pdf But I also see such classifications as being highly nuanced and that's why I don't mind adding cyberpunk into the mix as well. The movie presents a bleak dystopian future and the replicants are close enough to humans in their biology/manufacture to create moral sticking points for the audience. The director's cut even throws into question whether Deckard is a replicant hunting down his own kind. Neat creative ideas like that get me thinking. On the subject of hacking, an argument could be made that the Voight-Kampff test is a method Blade Runners use to hack a replicant's defensive programming. Anyway, just a thought.
  5. It's all good. I'm still waiting like everyone else, but I'm also crossing my fingers that this series sticks its landing.
  6. Well, the 'anime' criticism is aimed squarely at the trailer since that's all we have to review at the moment. The examples referenced are just showing how other Blade Runner media stick to the cyberpunk tech noir formula. I don't know what else to say if that isn't coming across. With regard to Blade Runner: Black Lotus, I'll be more than happy to rescind my criticism if the series turns out to be better than what was presented in the trailer. So, yeah, I'll give it a go too. I'm just not going in with lauded expectations. Mine will be quite tempered.
  7. Sweet. The sequel could be "In Search of Fresh Ingredients", which I was surprised to find out is a real thing.
  8. Looking good. I still need to put in my order for Crosscut, though.
  9. And so it is! That's what I get for not scrolling up. I think the memes are a bit too much in light of this 3P upgrade but I do want to wait to see Dr. Wu's final paint apps before I make any purchasing decisions of my own.
  10. Beggars? Anyway, for MPM Bumblebee Optimus, there is another option at least: Dr. Wu. https://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/general-upgrade-kits-thread.1204491/page-122#post-19387706
  11. Eh, the series is fine. The chaos that is built up in the first part creates a high-stakes scenario for the heroes. Something the old cartoon wasn't really able to realize. Mind, I didn't invest much time in MotU as a kid so I was willing to watch the new show with an open mind. It's got some cool callbacks to the original cartoon and I didn't have a visceral reaction to any character moments that challenged my own (albeit limited) understanding of MotU lore. I mean, the show even gives a certain goofy sidekick character a possible conclusive arc that's well deserved and honorable to boot. The moments with Teela were completely understandable to me. I didn't take offense to any of it. I guess, as always, YMMV. Yeah, I don't pay attention to "woke" criticism. Too many on the internet use that term now for its shock value---not really my thing at all.
  12. This also is what I paid at AE.
  13. It's very easy to recommend and I love the alternate endings. The original game works with ScummVM on new PCs too.
  14. The animation reminds me of the cutscenes from the Westwood Blade Runner adventure game that was released on PC back in 1997. That was good for its time but even that game is getting a remaster from Nightdive Studios in the near future. Almost all of the music in the original movie was composed by Vangelis, even the songs. The one exception is Rachel's Song which Vangelis has a co-credit for with Welsh vocalist Mary Hopkin. And that highlights my point. Vangelis set a particular tone for Scott's original film. In Villeneuve's sequel, Blade Runner 2049, there were two composers: Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch. The complete soundtrack includes songs from other musicians too like Presley and Sinatra. Even so, all the new musical elements from the second film connected back thematically to the original. To me, the melodic consistency between the two films is terrific. Seriously, the unique instrumental pieces intermixed with anachronistic songs help to create that thick cyberpunk tech noir atmosphere and for me that really aids in the overall world building of the two films. The animated teaser isn't giving me this same sound direction. The pop is definitely a bold change but it just doesn't sit right. Like others noted, it makes this whole teaser feel less Blade Runner and more GitS, Appleseed, or Alita. Then again, it is just a teaser so maybe Adult Swim and Crunchyroll are saving the added musical context and cool instrumentals for the actual series debut? Eh, I have my doubts. For more of an apples to apples comparison, Blackout 2022, as short as it is, does a much better job.
  15. What. Was. That? I'm not bothered by the animation so much as the teaser itself. After watching it, I'm worried about the show's direction. I mean, sure, the cyberpunk visuals are there---dated---but everything else seems off key for familiar Blade Runner media. The choice of music is odd. The dialog is camp. And the story that's teased...boy...I'm not sure what to think about it. What was shown seems very much a paint-by-numbers plot with some special combat replicant that has lost her memory? I have no idea how they are going to get that to jive in this universe. I guess I was expecting more depth.
  16. Indeed. The comedy works and this show also has a heart. It’s unique but, like I wrote in my post up thread, it was easy to warm up to everyone in the first season. The deep cuts and fan service references were just icing.
  17. I was expecting a repaint/redeco or two from MP Arcee but Takara really likes Nightbird. She gets first dibs.
  18. It’s a measure of consistency and what a fan wants from Masterpiece, I guess. Takara went in a very specific direction with MP-52. To match the toon/toy cues, they opted for underneath kibble that is highly inconsistent to the real-world vehicle. As has been noted, MP-3 and MP-11 were doing their own thing in alt mode and trying to keep a profile that was more in line with the real-world aircraft. Indeed, MP-52 has real-world detail but the profile that’s posted above was obviously not Takara’s intent this time. DS appears to be skirting the line trying to please all fans and it will be interesting to see if they do it. The underneath kibble has no peaks and valleys like MP-52 but it is still a visible chonk. If I were to compare DS-01 to a smaller scale Voyager, then I think Earthrise Starscream would be a good match. To me, both have nice jets on top of thick blocks which hide the transformy bits in alt mode.
