  1. I think he was referencing the conversation you and a few others had back on page 5 of this thread, that's all.
  2. Which is totally why we can understand who that big, blonde guy Minmay is hanging around with, who the chick in uniform with fishnet stockings is, and why poor Hyperion got destroyed? Knowing the story is one thing, but it really helps to be able to read the dialogue.
  3. No, this is the oldest sister, Komilia Jenius. Mylene is the youngest. By the time of Macross 7, Komilia is well over 30. Komilia is in the upper-left corner (standing) in this picture. Mylene is the little baby in the center. Emilia, from the Macross 7 movie, is the green-haired one standing in front of Max. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/97/The_Jenius_Family.jpg
  4. You're absolutely right. There isn't going to be an English-language edition no matter how many copies we Macross World members buy. The market is far too small for a publisher like Tokyopop to try and bring it over. The legal fees alone would cost a bundle and it would not be worth the payoff. Let me preface this by saying that this is not a personal attack on your or anyone else on the board. I'm just quoting your post since it was the latest one and has a succinct part I can quote easily. I love the community and everyone here. One of the things that has irritated me, though, was the comments that a person should learn Japanese to read something like Macross the First. Not everyone has the time, ability, money, or opportunity to learn Japanese. Even if they did, it takes a while until you can read even a basic manga with furigana like MtF. The posts telling people they have to if they want to read it stray too close to a bit of an elitist tone for my tastes since they're basically telling the other poster that he or she isn't good enough to read it since he or she doesn't speak that language. I am not advocating scanlations or any other side in the argument, I am simply stating my viewpoint . I've bought every issue of Macross Ace and the Macross the First tankoubon that have been released and will continue to until they both finish. I can read them just fine. Would I like an English edition to read? You bet I would. Unfortunately, since one from an official publisher isn't going to be forthcoming, I would happily read English-language scanlations as well, alongside my paper copies. Speaking of scans and thinking back to the gentleman's agreement, Chronicle is finished being published....
  5. That wasn't an asteroid, it was Saturn's moon Hyperion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperion_%28moon%29 (the spongy texture is the giveaway) There's also the host of minor changes like the new VF-1D head, Hikaru's new paintscheme, VF-1 single-seater canopy changes, etc.
  6. I'll just chime in for a moment here and do a full response to the OP later. SDF:M is the official canon. It's the original animation and hasn't been contradicted or updated by another. Macross the First is a manga retelling, but it doesn't refute the original show. If they animated it and said "This is the new original series", then it would be. Just look at Mobile Suit Gundam. There is a massive amount of expanded universe materials. Mecha designs that weren't used, manga, video games, etc. The only ones that are considered canon are the animated series. Even Tomino Yoshiyuki's own Mobile Suit Gundam novel trilogy is non-canon, despite the creator writing it himself. Some elements get incorporated into the canon animation later, but that doesn't mean the rest of it is. Unless Macross the First gets animated and/or Kawamori says specifically "This is what everything will be based on in the future", it's not the official setting. It's just a non-canon side story/alternate retelling. No more canon then Lost War Chronicles, Ecole du Ciel, or For the Barrel are for Gundam.
  7. Fairly close to what's happening in the USAF. There aren't, nor will be two-seat versions of the F-22 and F-35. Instead, they'll train some in F-16s (and of course the T-6, T-38, etc), but the conversion work will be done in the sims if I remember correctly.
  8. Ordinarily, I would probably agree with you there, especially since I like the Master File books. However, it specifically says in the text I quoted from the book itself, that it is not part of the official settings. Thus, non-canon. Nothing (besides other Master File books) will likely ever have continuity with them. Kawamori's name is attached there, but did he have any involvement?
  9. As much as I wish it would be even Expanded Universe-canon, it isn't that sort. In the book, on the credits page, it says that the book is written to appear as an in-universe book and is not part of the "Official Setting", aka "Canon". The text below is from the wiki article on the books and agrees with that. 「マクロスシリーズ設定監修の千葉昌弘や模型メーカーのハセガワ、やまとが協力しており、河森正治もスーパーバイザーとして名を連ねているが、「公式設定」ではないと断り書きがされている。」 That sort of material and the Star Wars Expanded Universe are two very different things. EU works are licensed by LFL and have to maintain an internal continuity, but they are not counted as canon to the movies. They exist on a lower level of canon. These books remind me of some old Star Wars technical magazines that I don't think were licensed as EU works(especially since they're massively outdated now), but it's been years since I saw them. I really do like the Master File interpretation of the VT/VE-1, though. The idea of them serving for decades after as trainers is a good one and the part about the instructor controlling the extra thrusters on the super parts was hilarious. It reminded me of the American driver's ed cars with the second brake pedal on the instructor's side. Happens in real life too, the EA-6B Prowler is still in use well over a decade since the retirement of the A-6 and KA-6 Intruder from active and reserve use.
  10. You're right, there were some interesting things in there. I particularly am fascinated by the post-war service for the planes, plus the modularity of them. Normal VF-1 tails, heads, wings, the VE-1's EW gear, etc. Some of this I really wish was canon, because it's sensible and good stuff. It's unfortunate that the books aren't canon at all.
  11. That's from the new Frontier album. Kawamori-sensei apologizing for not releasing the tracklist or such until after the movie comes out. Spoilers and all that.
  12. Don't forget we also see Komilia in the original series, where she got to experience being a human football. She also got an episode names after her (Viva Maria). Besides her, though, Emilia and Mylene are the only ones we've seen animated. There is a family portrait from when Mylene was a baby that remains the only time we see any of the other girls. A younger Emilia and Komilia are in it as well. The only one not in it is their adopted daughter, Moaramia.
  13. Beautiful work, Dan. It looks really good. I love the detail in the nose FLIR sensor and vernier recesses. Seeing how the head laser is in relation to the landing gear doors, I was wondering if you plan on animating that rotating out of the way too. Looking at the catapult bar on the landing gear, now I can't wait to see how you handle the dual tailhooks, which deploy from the inside corner of the leg/engine nacelles (opposite of the ventral fins).
  14. When you do the VF-1D, you should totally do the head from Macross the First, Mikimoto's new manga.
  15. Much improved, Damian. I can't wait to see how this looks fully shaded. Before I forget, here's the VF-1A, VF-1J, and VF-1S in high-res bitmaps. They zip up nicely, but are too big to post separately. VF-1.zip
  16. From a production standpoint, I should mention that they're all hero mecha and piloted by named characters. VF-0S Zero hero mecha (Roy) VF-1S, TV and DYRL hero mecha (Roy, Max, and Hikaru) VF-17S M7 hero mecha (Gamlin and Milia) VF-19S M7 hero mecha (Docker) VF-22S M7 hero mecha (Max, Milia, and Gamlin) VF-25S Frontier hero mecha (Ozma) The only exceptions to that are the VF-4, probably due to limited screentime, and the YF-19, due to it being a prototype. Of course the VF-19P and custom, but those are odd cases too. No planes not flown by any named characters got an S-type. EDIT: Added VF-0
  17. I would argue that it all depends on what he identifies himself as, in that case. For instance, I know several Germans from the eastern part of the country who still identify themselves as Prussian, despite the country not existing for nearly a century. If anything, I'd say that because the countries are no longer there politically there (in terms of borders, government, etc), cultural aspect becomes much more important. Take a Han Chinese person as an example. In this example, let's say his grandparents were born in China and survived the war. He's never been there, but would you say he isn't Chinese? Or a German, or a Pole, or an Indian (South Asian one, I mean), or a Peruvian? It's all in the self-identity. Noon rant complete, time for lunch. Semantics! But I do agree completely.
  18. Thanks to danbickell's truly great help with some renders of his awesome VF-1's cockpit the other day, my VF-1 profiles now have a DYRL cockpit. I think it turned out pretty well. It'll get some tweaks eventually, I'm sure, and I'd like to do a TV one eventually too. I only did the parts of the cockpit that could conceivably be visible, but there's still a lot covered up. You can see those details here. Thanks, Dan!
  19. Just tried it and it worked for me. Sent me to the Disk Sensor.
  20. Either way, the triangle got resolved.
  21. According to the liner notes for Re-Fire, the Fire Bomber reunion album, that one did get defacto resolved since Basara never went back to the Macross 7 fleet, if I remember right.
  22. That's what I get for not looking at the picture at full-size since this morning.
  23. Since they're kitbashed model kits, I'm going to guess 1/72 scale, probably.
  24. Looking good, Rodavan. Keep up the great work. I like how the Master File panel lines on the nose came out. If there's anything else you need scanned out of there, let me know.
